Marsh Man Masson vid: Punching bass and redfish in the face — seriously!

Fishing is never better at the mouth of the Mississippi River than it is in the fall

Marsh Man Masson loves this time of year for a number of reasons, but not the least of which is the Mississippi River falls to its lowest levels of the year, and that sucks bass out of their secure hiding spots, and makes them very easy to catch along the roseau cane-lined passes, bayous and canals south of Venice, La.

The bass still try to hide, but they have to do it under hyacinths and matted hydrilla that’s easily accessible to anglers.

Marsh Man and his fishing buddy Jeff Bruhl took the long haul to the area last week, and although fishing was a little slow by Venice standards, it was still way better than anything else available just about anywhere.

The anglers used heavy tungsten weights teamed with punch skirts and creature baits to punch through the vegetation and yank the bass back through it. They also ran into some redfish along the way.

It’s an incredibly fun technique that really pays off at the mouth of the Mississippi.
