27-foot vessel overturned around 7 a.m. Wednesday, LDWF says

One man is dead and another is missing after a 27-foot boat capsized in the Gulf of Mexico Wednesday morning about a half-mile from South Pass in Plaquemines Parish.

According to a news release from the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries, the 60-year-old survivor from Baton Rouge told authorities he and two other men were all ejected into the water about 7 a.m.

It is not known at this time what caused the boat to capsize, the release states.

The survivor retrieved an 86-year-old man from Magnolia, Texas, who was unresponsive once on shore and who was ultimately pronounced dead by a medical examiner on-scene, according to the release.

Search and rescue teams are still searching for one other missing boater, an 85-year-old man also from Baton Rouge, the release states.

None of the men were wearing a life jacket when the accident occurred, according to the release.
