Suspect posted photo with 23-point rack on Facebook, LDAF says
The irresistible urge to post pictures of yourself doing stupid things on Facebook apparently continues.
Two Franklinton teens allegedly shot and then stole a 2 ½-year-old farm-raised 181-inch buck sporting a 23-point rack valued at $8,500, according to a press release from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture and Forestry.
Apparently not suspecting that posting a photo with a freakish rack like that would arouse any suspicion at all, at least one of them allegedly posted a picture with the deer on Facebook, the release states.
The LDAF release states Drake Barber, 19, and Justin MIller, 17, allegedly shot the 200-pound buck on the night of Dec. 26, 2017 and removed the deer from the owner’s property.
LDAF brand investigators booked both men into the Washington Parish Jail on Dec. 30 for theft of property valued at more than $5,000 but less than $25,000. If convicted, the suspects face a fine and/or jail time, the release states.
“Investigators said after the suspects illegally shot and killed the deer, it appears they posted a photo with the deer in question on a Facebook page,” LDAF Commissioner Mike Strain said in the release. “Going to someone’s private property and stealing their livestock is a crime.”
The Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries and the Washington Parish Sheriff’s Office assisted with the arrests.
