Former Louisana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission chairman loses hunting and fishing privileges until 2019
The host of Wildgame Nation on the Outdoor Channel was sentenced last month in connection with an elk poaching incident on his Wyoming ranch last October.
According to outdoorhub.com, Billy Busbice Jr. was sentenced to one and a half years of unsupervised probation and was ordered to pay $23,000 in fines and restitution and will lose his hunting and fishing privileges in 45 states — including Louisiana — until 2019 for allowing an antlerless elk to go to waste and for hunting without a proper license.
Media reports indicate the incident occurred when Busbice, who was filming a hunt for his show, accidentally shot a calf elk while attempting to harvest a large bull.
Busbice, of Olla, apparently ordered his ranch manager to drag the calf into an irrigation ditch in an attempt to conceal it, according to the Kemmerer Gazette.
Busbice, who was appointed to the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission in 1998 and served as chairman in 2004, was also cited in 2016 in Wyoming for false oath for purchasing a resident general elk license as a nonresident, and for purchasing more than the authorized number of deer licenses.
