Harvey hunter downs 182-inch Mississippi buck

Big 18-point goes down near Hermanville on Jan. 27

Sylvester Badeaux almost skipped the final weekend of deer season at his lease in Claiborne County, Miss., but decided to head over when his hunting buddies said they were planning on going.

It’s a good thing, too — in the last days of the season, the 46-year-old Harvey hunter downed the buck of a lifetime when an 18-point appeared 40 yards from his pop-up blind.

“I just caught some movement on my right side — the way I walked in was the way he came to me,” he said. “When I looked up, he was coming around a bend in this little logging road.

“He looked up and saw the pop-up, and he threw the brakes on. He was looking at that pop-up and knew something wasn’t right.”

Badeaux’s aim was dead-on, and the buck dropped where it stood. But 33 years of hunting didn’t prepare him for what it was like getting his hands on the buck’s rack — or its impressive green score.
