Guide received $600 deposit, LDWF says
A Concordia Parish man was ticketed for not abiding by wildlife management area rules after allegedly guiding a woodcock hunt on Richard K. Yancey WMA on Jan. 4, according to the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries.
William K. Sutton was cited after agents on patrol in the area observed him and a man armed with a shotgun exiting the woods along an ATV trail.
During a license and compliance check, agents found the hunter was carrying a magazine with an ad for SDW Outfitters in Monterey, which is owned by Sutton, the release states.
At the bottom of the magazine page with the ad, agents found a hand-written note indicating the hunter paid Sutton a $600 deposit, according to the release.
The hunter admitted he paid Sutton for his guiding services, and Sutton confirmed receiving the money, the release states.
The men didn’t kill any woodcock on the hunt, according to LDWF spokesman Adam Einck.
WMA rules and regulations state that no one may act as a hunting guide for which they are paid on any WMA.
Operating a guide service on a WMA brings a $100 to $350 fine plus court costs and up to 60 days in jail, the release states.
