It’s been a crazy 12 months, with the typical broiling-hot summer topped off with record flood in many areas of the state. So when hunting seasons opened, hunters relished the break from rebuilding efforts.
And the deer started piling up, with the highlight of the 2016-17 season being the potential state-record buck killed Dec. 1 by Charlie Lusco, who was hunting on Diamond Island.
But that wasn’t the only huge buck to hit the ground.
For instance, Hayden Cassels slammed a 190-inch monster during a Concordia Parish hunt, and Jason MacFarland bagged a 188-incher in the same parish.
Morgan City’s Joey Busbice even scored on two trophies — for a total of 300 inches of bone.
That’s not even counting all the 140s, 150s and 160s.
As of Jan. 9, LouisianaSportsman.com had uncovered more than 60 bucks that topped the 140-inch mark.
And that’s during a season during which the weather has been maddening.
