This year's Louisiana Sportsman Show was that time for 12-year-old Jonathon Burns of Napoleonville.

Clayton Chauvin definitely saved his best bow hunt for last.

Hunter Simmons, who manages the sporting goods store’s yearly Big Buck Contest, says that although there were not quite as many trophy bucks brought in, those that were entered were some of the best he’s seen in the past several years.

Tara Roszell is a registered nurse working in the recovery room at Rapides Regional Medical Center in Alexandria, and although she’s hunted deer off-and-on for 30 years since she got married,  she’s spent most of her time at home as mom to her kids.

As we all know, even the best laid plans don’t usually work the way we draw them up on the chalkboard.

But that wasn’t the case for Jimmy White and his son-in-law Will Mabry on Jan. 12 in St. Joe - they devised a scheme, executed it to perfection and took down a wily old non-typical 199-inch Tensas Parish monster in the process.

For Paul “Tee Paul” Thevenet, tracking down a big 9-point Atchafalaya Basin buck he’d been pursuing for three years became a full-time job starting this past Dec. 15.

The taking of one of the bucks featured Jan. 27 in an online article on is under investigation by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, a Tensas River National Wildlife Refuge official said.

That pretty much sums up the week Kane Adams enjoyed earlier this month on his club's Iberville Parish lease in the Atchafalaya Basin.

Mike Centanni doesn’t shoot a whole lot of deer on the family property he hunts in Concordia Parish, but the monster buck he took down on Jan. 18 more than makes up for all the ones he’s let walk over the years.

Chris Courville enjoyed a late season bow hunt this past weekend at the Tensas National Wildlife Refuge he won’t soon forget for a couple of reasons: one for how he lost a nice buck, and the other for the monster he ended up taking home.
