Dove-hunting shooting hours clarified August 27, 2012 at 7:00 am Information detailing dove-hunting shooting hours in the printed version of the 2012-13 Louisiana Hunting Regulations was wrong, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife & Fisheries reported. The shooting-hours note on page 28 of the printed regulations booklet indicates Sept. 3 is the exception to the standard rule that shooting can start a half hour before sunrise and continue until sunset. |

60-day waterfowl season tentatively set August 16, 2012 at 1:34 pm Tentative dates allowing for 60 days of hunting were set for 2012-13 waterfowl seasons in early August during the regular meeting of the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission. Final dates will be ratified by a declaration of emergency from the Commission after approval from the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. Shooting hours begin one-half hour before sunrise and extend until sunset. |

Sporting clays shoot set to support prostate cancer research August 14, 2012 at 11:33 am A sporting clays shoot this Saturday (Aug. 18) will raise money for prostate cancer research and awareness, with all proceeds going to Dr. Oliver Sarton’s Prostate Cancer Research Fund at the Tulane Cancer Center. The One Man Can Make a Difference shoot will be be held at Riverside Sporting Clays at 52400 Highway 16 in Denham Springs, and honors prostate cancer victim Connie Mack Boykin. |

Help a hunter out July 17, 2012 at 4:34 pm The Louisiana Hunting Heritage Program (LHHP) is now accepting participants for the 2012-13 hunting season. The LHHP, launched by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries (LDWF), matches experienced hunters with persons who would like to learn how to hunt, but have no family member or friend with the necessary skills. Experienced hunters, registered through LHHP, serve as mentors to help new hunters, referred to as apprentices, with learning the skills necessary to become independent hunters. |

Early migratory season dates set, regular season proposed July 02, 2012 at 12:27 pm Season dates for 2012 early migratory hunting were set and dates for the regular 2012-13 waterfowl season were proposed today during the Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission meeting. WMA deer harvest, hunter efforts down last season June 19, 2012 at 2:36 pm An analysis of the 2011-12 managed deer hunts on wildlife management areas revealed that total harvests was down by approximately 700 deer when compared to the 2010-11 hunting seasons. That represents a 23-percent decline. |

Wildlife and Fisheries Commission proposes third duck-hunting zone June 15, 2012 at 10:48 am The Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Commission last week approved a three-zone framework for the 2012-2015 waterfowl seasons. In a presentation prepared by the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries’ Waterfowl Program, commissioners heard data gathered during a recent survey conducted by the Department. Hunter comments were collected via a mail-out and an online survey form. |

Ben’s Creek WMA dropping from system May 21, 2012 at 12:21 pm Ben’s Creek Wildlife Management area has been a part of the state WMA system since 1987, but negotiations to renew the lease have broken down. That means the Washington Parish property will no longer be accessible to the public as of June 30, the Louisiana Department of Wildlife and Fisheries announced. |

Louisiana to participate in National Dove Hunter Survey May 15, 2012 at 9:11 am Hunters are encouraged to participate in an upcoming survey that will ask dove hunters from across the U.S. to share their experiences and opinions about dove hunting. The National Dove Hunter Survey is scheduled to begin in late June 2012 and will be completed by the end of the year. Louisiana hunters will be randomly selected and receive the surveys through the mail to complete and return in a postage-paid envelope. |
