Winter or Spring
Crazy Spring weather!!!
I'm not sure what to wear in the boat on some days. 40 degrees in the morning or 75 degrees. All in all its been a weird couple of weeks.
Trout are starting to show themselves in the big water when you can get to them, and the marsh is still producing reds and large trout. Not many but good ones.
Working the banks in the deep canels have been the best of late. Trout and reds both hanging on the shallow banks next to deep canels well north of Grand Isle.
Bait of choice has been minnows under a cork and minnow on a lead head working the bottom. Spinner baits in the ponds are still catching a few reds and its lots of fun to see that fish hit that bait.
Good weather is not to far in the future and that should allow us to fish the beaches and the open bays in the coming weeks. Shrimp and croackers are going to be the bait of choice at that time.
Still have opennings in April and May (some weekends and lots of week days. Come on down and join me for some fun on the water.
Thanks Capt. Frank

Good Friday
Fishing has been getting better by the Day.
High winds have kept us in the marsh for the past few weeks, but when we can get to open water(Hackberry Bay)(Bay Lour's)the fish have been there in number and size. Little lake has held fish for the past weeks as well, but that is a little to far for us to run on a rough day. Live minnows and spinner baits are my weapons of choice until we get live shrimp at the marina, and live croakers are just around the corner for the summer.
My Good Friday trip has moved to Easter Sunday, so Good Friday is still open if anyone would like to make an Easter trip.
Thanks Capt. Frank

Wednesday fishing from GI
Had Larry and his two sons (Peyton and Cade) on the boat yesterday. Started off slow but ended the trip strong for this time of year.
Had about 20 trout and five redfish. All the trout came on live minnows under a cork on a pipeline north of the island. Banged around the shoreline for redfish in the deep canels waiting for the water to come up enough to get into the ponds. Once in the ponds it was spinner baits and gulp shrimp. Caught a ton of small reds (15.5 inchs) and managed to put five nice ones in the boat before leaving. All in all it was a great day on the water.
This weeked is looking great for fishing and I'm open for Saturday and Sunday. So call on book you trip and lets have some fun on the water.
P.S. I still have my rated cut for the weekend so call for pricing.
Thanks Capt. Frank

weekend fishing open
Good Mornig,
Fished the past few weekends in some windy, rainy, and cold weather. All in all better fishing then working.
The target has been redfish, and the hope of a few trout. The edges in the ponds off of the deep canels have been holding reds. Using H&H spinner baits and live minnow under a short cork have done the job. Trout have been a little harder to come by but still able to put a few in the box. Deep hole with moving water has been my main focus the last few days.
With calm and warmer weather coming this weekend it should provide great early spring time fishing in Grand Isle.
I have Saturday and Sunday open if someone would like to make a scout trip. I've reduced my trip prices for scouting this weekend so give me a call if you would like to learn some new area and catch a few fish.
Thanks Capt. Frank

Rainy weekend on the Island
Rained all day Saturday, but we still caught fish.
Had Billy Freeman and son Shawn on the boat along with there friends Mr. Leo and Eric. Made one stop in Bay Rambo, and we got to the dock at about 11:00. Made the count at the camp and we had 143 trout in the box. 33 specks and 110 whites. The bait of the day was new penny gulp and live minnows. All caught on the bottom. Gulp was worked on a lead head bouncing it along the bottom. Great day on the water.
Just a little info: You can like Laid Back Charter on facebook.
Have a few more trips on the Island and I will start fishing the lake at the end of the month.
Thanks Capt. Frank

Fishing is good on the Island
Weekend report from the Island.
Saturday morning I had Tray and his group from Bastrop. Good ole country boys got warren out with the trout. Ended the day with 55 specks, 84 white trout and one redfish. All had a great time.
Sunday morning I had John and Kyle on the boat with me and we headed north to the fishing grounds. Made two stops and on the second stop we caught a limit of nice trout. 75 and done.
Minnows worked real well, but the larger trout came on topwater and new penny color plastics on a 3/8oz lead head.
Everything is fine on the Island and the fishing is getting real good. Saw a few limits of redfish come in, but not a lot of people fishing this weekend. So I hope to see more folks down in the next couple of weeks. I have this Sunday open and the following weekend open.
Just a side note: around the middle of October I will bring the boat home and start running a few trips in Lake Pont.
Thanks Capt. Frank

Grand Isle Weekend
Wet weekend on the Island
Started Friday out with storms all over the place and didn't leave the dock until 7:00. Fished some of the small Island around China Town and picked up a few trout and a small red. Moved on to the east missing storms and got into a small fish bite and picked up a few more trout. All in all Friday was a hard day of fishing, but Jay and his friend put together a nice box of 41 trout and one redfish.
Saturday started a little better but the winds where up a bit. Had Russell, Blayne and there guest on the boat for the day. Fished around the four bayous area and picked up a few nice fish and ended the day with 47 trout.
Sunday came around and the weather was good all day long. Headed back to the four bayous area with Eric Walter and Troy. Fished two spots and finish the day with 57 trout.
Live shrimp and a few croakers seemed to be the best bait for the weekend. No beach fishing because the water was muddy. Hope to be on the beach this weekend for the tarpon rodeo throwing croakers those big trout.
Everyone be safe on the Island this weekend its the biggest of the year. And for those who don't know keep your wifes and children away from Sanddollar at night.
P.S. I still have this sunday open and plenty of days in august open.
Thanks Capt. Frank

Grand Isle Weekend
GRAND ISLE SUMMER FISHING!!!!
Fished the gang from Walk On's Catering service on Friday and Saturday, and had a blast with these guys
(Fritz and Chris on Friday and then Jason joined the group on Saturday). Friday was the big trout day, and Fritz caught the biggest of the weekend. 3.85lbs and a stringer of about 14lbs. Great job guys. Saturday was the numbers day. Had 64 trout and back at the dock for 11:00.
No pics this weekend I left my phone in Baton Rouge. Will have some after this weekend.
On a side note I would like to thank Walk On's for feeding me steaks and fish on Saturday night. The drinks went down great all night as well.
Fished on the beach and around the four bayous area both days and the fish are on a croaker bite. Nice size and numbers.
Hope to see ya'll down on the Island this summer.
Thanks Capt. Frank

After the fourth fishing
Trout on and around Grand Isle
The past weekend on the island was a good one. Fished the family for a couple of days (Friday and Sunday)and had the St. Thomas Moore Church group on Saturday. All three days produced good numbers of fish and fun. Thanks to Mark and Jessica for supporting the church. They had 70 trout and a great time.
The other two days I had my wife (Janice who is a great cook / you can tell if you see me in person)and all three of my boys. Friday ended with 60 or so trout and Sunday ended with about 70 or so trout. Great time with the family and friends.
Now I'm going back to work and running trips this coming weekend. I still have Sunday open if anyone would like to have some fun on the water.
The trout in the pic was caught on Sunday on topwater on the beach around Elmer Island. It was approx. 23' or so.
P.S. Shrimp under a cork has been producing most of my fish on the beach and in the bays.
Thanks Capt. Frank

Great Weekend on the Island
Had lots of fun on the Island this weekend with the family and customers.
Started off friday with David and his crew from the houma area. Finished the day with about 70 nice trout. Fishing the beach with live shrimp and croakers has been the ticket.
On Saturday I had Phyllis and her lovely all women crew from the Baton Rouge area. Had a great time on the boat with these ladies. Caught plenty of fish and all had a good time.
Sunday was the offshore day in my boat. Had c-mac, my oldest son Eryc and myself. Went about 15 to 17 miles and caught a limit of mangrove snapper most on cut bait and some on live croakers.
All in all a great weekend with friends and family.

Windy Grand Isle
Good Morning,
Been a while scense my last report so here we go.
Been on the the islaand for the past month fishing almost every day. This year the weather has played the biggest part of where we fish and what we catch. Strong east winds have pushed use into the marsh north of the Island so the catch has been mostly redfish, but we are still catching a few trout.
Early in the month the beach was the ticket. Limits of trout and a few redfish being caught. Croackers and live shrimp worked the best. A few soft plastics worked later in the mornings.
In the future for Grand Isle I beleive that once the weather gets right the beaches in front of Grand Isle and Grand Terre are going to hold some very nice fish size and numbers.
So get ready for July and August because the weather and the fishing are both going to hot.
I have most of this weekend and next weekend open if anyone would like to book a trip. I also still have Tarpon Rodeo weekend open.
Thanks Capt. Frank

Grand Isle fishing is getting hot.
Good Morning from the Island.
Fishing on the Island is heating up. All boats are catching fish from Grand Isle to four bayous. The dolphin have been catching a lot of fish as well if you know what I mean.
The past two weeks have had a few windy days and not so windy days but all in all most boats have been able to put together a nice box of fish.
Most everyone this early in the season like to use live shrimp for two reason, (1)the croakers are about the size of the minnows and (2)we have a lot of shrimp in the area. So most fish are coming on live shrimp on the bottom and 2-3 feet under a cork. Find clean water and you will find the fish.
As far as the beach is concerned there are a few fish being caught, but we are not far from it being the right time of year.
Good luck and hope to see yall on the water.
I still have a few weekends left open in May and I have memorial day open. So book you trip and lets have some fun on the water.
Thanks Capt. Frank

Grand Isle Trout
Had a great weekend on Grand Isle. Weather was good and the fishing was great. Started Saturday with Craig his father Lou and his son Maison. Went north into the open bays of the Grand Isle marsh and began to catch fish at the first stop. Picked up six or seven there and moved to the second spot. It was on at that point. Nice trout and one redfish to boot. Ended Saturday with 54 trout and one redfish.
Sunday we had the same condition and fished the same spots. Had friends Doug and Melissa on the boat for the day and end with 24 nice trout on a short trip.
Things are heating up on the island so give me a call book you trip. I have openings this weekend including good Friday.
Thanks Capt. Frank

Gettin Hot on Grand Isle
Been fishing for the past few weeks north of Grand Isle and the action has been good to great depending on the day. I've had boats catching limits of trout on some days and limits of redfish on others. Most days we come in with a mix of fish. We are still using live minnows and plastics on the edges. All in all the minnows are producing the numbers but the plastics have produced the bigger fish.
In the next few weeks we will start the move into open water as the brown shrimp start to show up.
We have plenty of openings for April and May so book your trip soon.
Thanks Capt. Frank
