Andrew Ahrens dreamed of creating an outdoorsman’s paradise that has taken him over 6 years to complete, but the final result was well worth the wait. The Lodge at Tee Mamou is located 12 miles north of Jennings on Highway 97 just south of Basile. The 1000 acre retreat borders Bayou Nepique and offers beautiful woods full pine and hardwood trees along with rolling hills The property is stocked with trophy fishing lakes that in the winter also yields some great duck hunting. While the retreat is an incredible outdoor hunting experience the lodge also boasts some of the finest amenities found anywhere. From the heated salt water pool and hot tub to the purple and gold LSU themed tennis courts and cabins. No detail is overlooked. Looking to the history of the Lodge, Ahrens dream of building the resort is actually the result of a national tragedy. “I was moose hunting in Alaska on the morning of September 11, 2001 Ahrens recalled, “I harvested a hugh bull moose right before we were scheduled to be picked up by the outfitters ton return home” When the outfitters failed to show up that day Ahrens was left 350 miles from the village and had no way to communicate with any one “We were worried to say the least” he said “We were loosing about 5 minutes of light per day and the days were getting shorter quick”
Ahrens and his hunting partner starting building permanent shelter and started storing up food. Good thing we had couple of hundred pounds of moose meat to eat or we could have been in a lot of trouble. The plane finally showed up to pick us up after 9-11. “I think we were probably the last people on the earth to hear about the tragedy” Ahrens concluded after the experience he would not go far way from his family to hunt. “It was a very scary time not knowing when if we would make it home again. One I don’t want to relive again.” Ahrens decided that he did not want to give up the love for hunting so he brought the animal he wanted to hunt home to him and anyone else wanting to enjoy game from around the continent and the world. The Lodge offers bows and riffle hunting. The terrain at the lodge is diverse and the animals has adapted as if they were living in their natural habitat. And the selection of deer is very impressive, Massive Red, Staggs along with trophy Axis deer, Fallow, Sika, and Whitetail deer roams the property, Ahrens also added some exotic sheep and Wild Russian hogs to hunt. Quail Chucker, pheasant and squirrel hunting gore also available. Before or after the hunt the facility at Tee Mamou makes guest fell like they are in the mountains of Colorado. The Lodges have high ceilings with stone fireplace, beautiful wood beams and tree built into structures the lodge also offers private guess suites game rooms, wireless internet and meeting rooms for corporate retreats and family gatherings. A few private cabins arte also available. And for non hunting guests there is a lot to do at Tee Mamou. There is a beautiful stable with six horses for guest to take trail rides. On as well as a small petting zoo for children featuring miniature donkeys, goats sheeps, kangaroos. Swimming, fishing tennis hiking and mountain biking are available. Ahrens an investment advisor in Lafayette originally design the facility to cater to families or corporations wanting to gather and relax in the outdoor environment. Away from the city. He said his main purpose had changed somewhat, now he has become an outfitter partner with the non profit Catch –A- Dream Foundation. Catch- A -Dream Foundation grants once a lifetime hunting and fishing Experience to children 18 years old and younger who have life threating illnesses.
The facility’s interior is also exceptional. The main lodge has 40 foot ceiling with one of the best displays of taxidermy found away from a Cabela’s or Bass Pro Shop locations. There are many different species of water fowl, fish deer, hogs, bears and a few surprise mounts to boot. The décor is also very comfortable with leather sofa and antique beams.
