I have a camp in Hackberry and we normally launch my boat to go offshore at the Cameron Ferry. However the last two summers the launch has been closed due to 'safety' of people launching their boats too close to the ferry. Now I didn't have a problem with that until I found out that commercial fishermen have the combination to the lock and can use the launch still. Now we have a problem. How is it that a PUBLIC boat launch is paid for and maintained by tax dollars are closed to the public but people who use the launch for profit are able to use it but we can't? Cameron Parish Police jury feel like its not a big deal.

I was very please to see all my fellow anglers come together last night. It was standing room only at the Hyatt conference room. The Gulf coast council knew when they left how we feel about our fisheries. However I feel that the council will do what they want to do regardless of public opinion.

Im new to Offshore boat ownership and last summer we were in the Gulf when a typical storm blew up on us. Rain got so thick vis was less than a few hundred yards and severe lightening. I have never been in an event like that before. Was torn between sticking it out near a rig or making a break for it. I didnt like the idea of being under a metal t top in the storm. We made a break for it and got hammered the whole way in. Now dont flame me to hard. Help me to learn whats the best thing to do.

If this really and agenda? If it is it's a bunch of BS!!rnrnGulf fisheries management at a dangerous point. What is happening in the Gulf of Mexico Fishery Management Council is big. Really big.At first glance, it may not look like a big deal but it is a giveaway that is scarcely conceivable in the management of other natural resources.

The Gulf Council is considering dividing recreational anglers into two sectors, those with their own boats and those who own charter and for-hire boats. The Council would then take some portion of the fish now given to all recreational anglers and literally give it away to a select few businesses operating those charter and for-hire boats to use as their own, however and whenever they wish.

And what would those businesses pay for this windfall? Nothing. What are the tangible conservation benefits of this course of action? Nothing.rnrnThe manner in which proponents and NOAA Fisheries staff have attempted to force through sector separation without the basis of real information on impacts that could affect our Gulf fishing for generations has drawn the opposition of the Congressional Sportsmen's Caucus. The CSC, with more than 300 members in the U.S. Congress, promotes and protects the rights of anglers and hunters and is one of many groups opposing this issue on behalf of Gulf Coast angler.

Sector separation is a bad idea, plain and simple. We need your help to beat it. A critical vote on sector separation could come as early as the next Gulf Council meeting, August 20-24 in New Orleans.rnrnPlease take a few moments and tell the Gulf Council to reject separation. It is important to defeat this measure now - we don't want to discover the details of a radical new federal program after it is approved.

Applied for my boat registration back on June 14 and have yet to receive it back LDWF boater registration said they were running 60+ days behind and to just wait they will get to it when they can. Was told agents know that they are running behind on and 'shouldn't' ticket you. Going out next weekend my luck ill get harassed by an uninformed agent for no registration. Anynbody besides me having this problem?

Hey guys this may be a dumb question but ive looked on the net and cant find a good answer. Im new to the offshore boat owner group. Ill leaving my boat down south and traveling back to Alexandria where I live so pulling the boat back and fourth would get expensive. Those of you that store your boats and travel how and what type chargers do you use? Ill be making about 2 trips per month maybe more but at min 2. I don't feel comfortable leaving the charger on for long periods of time unattended. How do you more experienced boaters do it.

I recently purchased a 2001 Pro line 21ft with a 150 merc. Has all the gadgets radar, gps with plotter depth finders. My normal trips to the gulf have been when I was hitching rides with other people. I love to spearfish but not all my friends do. Anyway im looking for advice on fishing gear to get started that wont break the bank. Also boat operation in the gulf. Im 41 so I have experiance operating a boat just not in the Gulf and I want to make sure my friends and family are safe and have a good time. Thanks in advance.

The data is flawed and they know it. When they said they group us in with Florida who have decimated their own Red Snapper. Basically we been punished because another state allowed their fisheries to be over harvested.

The meeting in my eyes was a farce. They are and will do what they already have planned on doing, shutting recreational anglers out. The meeting was just formality so they can say that they put it up for public comment and regardless what happens they will say 'its in the best interest of the species'.

We had actually been down diving and when we came up it was like all hell was breaking loose. I saw the storm in the distance but inexperience on my part thought that it was way far away, when in actuality it wasnt. Had some major pucker factor going on I can assure you. I have a radar but still learning it. Second year coming up just wanna make sure I dont screw up.

To be honest I dont need your approval or mightier than thou attitude. I really wonder why people have to turn post on here into a im better than you kinda thing. You free dive im happy for you. To steal a quote from another board that pretty much sums up how I feel about people who say that they are better because they freedive.

'We pride ourselves on being lazy and not freediving but using the 'cheating method' of spearfishing which is using scuba. We are the lowest of the low as we like to continue to breathe while we seek out fish for our freezer, even though we are not worth the air we breathe since we spearfish with scuba. Maybe we should just stop doing anything outside or healthy and just watch youtube videos while we eat fast food and masturbate instead.

Does this about cover it freedivers??'

But ill say this when it comes to spearfishing im relatively new to going into the Gulf with my own boat and finding spots to hunt. This reminds me of when the LDWF started to let everyone use a cross bow instead of compound bows. Major arguements on here and other sites, about how sorry you had to be to use a crossbow.

In this sport that we love to do the last thing we need is bickering among ourselves. Save that energy fighting NOAA and their ultimate wisdom of fish research and telling us what is on the decline and what aint. So in the future unless you are going to say something helpful please dont waste the bandwidth of this forum to post your narrow minded comments.

MODS if this post violated any TOS I apologize and feel free to delete it.

I understand the one clip in the video may look as if the one shot was very close to my buddy. The domed lense of the GoPro makes it look that way. Shooting 3.5 shells in the hole tends to ring ears at times.
