New To Sportsman Network?

I received my certificate from the louisiana outdoor writers association today I am super excited! Even though the official weight is 6.825 and it was printed as 6.81 I'll take it either way. I'm in the process of sending off the IGFA for the world record books as it is going to tie the world record! Once again I want to thank everyone that helped me get to this point.

Me and my buddy went on short fishing/test run and i caught what i thought at the time was a hybrid striper. after lots of internet research come to realize its a white bass. checked the state record and it is 4.13lbs. weighed my fish on an ac refigerant scale and it is 6lbs. 15.5ozs. i am trying to contact anyone who can help me make this official. my name is corey and my number is 225-456-0930. thanks in advance for any help

I'M SURE JUST LIKE MY FAMILY MOST OF YOU HAVE NOT BEEN DOING THE SALT WATER FISHING WE NORMALLY DO THIS TIME OF YEAR. I WORK ON BOATS SO NEEDLESS TO SAY MONEY HASN'T BEEN GREAT AND THE NEWS MAKES YOU WANT TO CRY EVERY TIME YOU WATCH IT. THIS WEEKEND WE SAID ENOUGH AND SATURDAY MORNING WE DECIDED WE WERE GOING TO MAKE A DAY TRIP TO LEEVILLE SUNDAY. LEFT THE HOUSE ON A SERIOUS BUDGET, SANDWICHES AND DRINKS ONLY NO LIVE BAIT, NO NEW ARTIFICIALS JUST WHAT WE HAD. PULLED UP TO BOUDREAUXS AND IT WAS BUSINESS AS USUAL FISHERMAN EVERYWHERE IT WAS EXCITING. WE KEPT 11 REDS, 7 FLOUNDER, AND 5 TROUT AND HAD A BLAST AS WE ALWAYS DO IN LEEVILLE. THE FISH WERE NICE AND HEALTHY AND MY BOAT HAD NO STAINS WHEN I GOT HOME. THE TRIP REALLY BOOSTED EVERYONES SPIRITS I HOPE EVERYBODY GETS OUT THERE AND ENJOYS THE COAST!

Hey guys, CanteatThemHorns here. Just spreading the word that there is a 3d archery tournament this Sunday the 30th. It is at 4 seasons archery in Opelousous (sp?) The information I have is as follows....

$20 entry fee, 100% payout
Open class, Hunter class, Woman class, and Youth class
20 target course, 40 yards max shot. 1 bonus target used as a mulligan to cancel out your lowest score.
ASA rules, low 12's high 14's. 5 points just for hitting the target, 0 for misses.

If you need directions you can e-mail me or call me at 225-788-6471

I shot a tournament here last weekend, the place is in great shape. 3d shooting is alot of fun, you meet alot of great people. It's perfect practice for ther upcoming bow season. Hope to see y'all there!

JB is very right about identifying the difference hybrids are very tricky as some of them are so close wildlife agents even have trouble telling and I say this from experience. JB is also correct about the state record as I am the state and world record holder caught last august that weighed 6lbs. 13oz. Looks like a nice catch if you had a clearer pic i could tell you if it is a white bass or hybrid. They also have good identification guides online.

A comment titled: white bass vs hybrid in response to a report titled: white bass

I will say this because I like most people labeled all similar fish as stripers. There are four species in the group white bass, yellow bass, striper, and hybrid striper. I always thought that hybrid stripers were only in false river. Man was I wrong when me and my buddy went to LAWF to get the fish verified there was at least a dozen different biologist that came and looked at my fish all thinking it had to be a hybrid because they get that alot. I spoke personally to one of the guys that make the hybrids there and they make billions of these fish a year and they are released all over the state in public waters. He told me that because it is a cross between a white bass and a striper there are alot of them that are shockingly similar and that the ones they see are difficult to tell apart. Not by no means am I saying that your fish is a hybrid but they were very thorough and very suprised that I had a white bass that large. I was just happy that I didn't eat it like I was fixing to do.

that's some nice fish. you know the crazy thing is I almost ate my record I thought it was a hybrid because of its size but my dad and a good friend convinced me other wise just minutes before the knife fired up. Where I caught this fish I have never caught a white bass before ever. Now that place in your picture looks like somewhere id like to fish.

SO FAR THESE ARE THE DIFFERENT WAYS WE HAVE IDENTIFIED THE FISH. (1) ONLY ONE STRIPE EXTENDING TO THE TAIL (2) HEIGHT IS A THIRD OF LENGTH (3) SINGLE TOOTH PATCH NOT A DOUBLE (4) 9 POINTS ON THE DORSAL FIN NOT 7 (5) SOLID LINES NOT BROKEN ONES. I THINK WE ARE PRETTY SURE IT IS A WHITE BASS. IF FOR SOME REASON THEY SAY IT AINT THEY BETTER HAVE D@#$ GOOD REASONING! ALSO WANTED TO THANK CAPT. ERIC DUMAS FOR TALKING TO ME AND GIVIN ME A RUNDOWN OF WHAT TO EXPECT FROM ALL OF THIS.

It has been real hard to get any usable info out of the lawf on a friday afternoon. but i did get to talk to a field agent and he was a big help the pic of the weight was just one of eight that i stuck on here. i have two from the other side where you can see the fish and the weight and a up close of the louisiana stamp and serial number and 4 witnesses so hopefully ive covered all my bases.

This is canteatthemhorns just at work and under my friends name. When you recommend a 4x4, are you saying I should take a jeep with 38.5s, a z71 with 35's and a little lift, or a z71 with no lift and 33's?
