Hey guys. Just wondering if anyone could give me some tips on how to fish Big Lake? Went out for the first time this past friday with no luck. The water was ok but nothing to brag about. Strong south wind but I don't really know any spots or which end of the lake is better? I fished the West end of the lake where there is a big oyster reef that was on a map. Drifted a while in about 3-5 feet of water with no luck. Don't need any hot spots just things to look for, baits preferred, etc. Any information would be appreciated. Thanks and good luck!!

Does anyone out there fish with an 8ft rod for trout as opposed to the 7? Advantages and Disadvantages? Likes and dislikes? Any info would be appreciated. Thanks.

Has anyone been catching trout in the Golden Meadow area? What about Grand Isle? Going pick up my boat in a couple weeks and I was just wondering where I should make my maiden voyage. Thanks

Does anyone know if they are still catching Red's in Vermillion Bay around Mud Point and the Trash Pile? If not are they catching anywhere at the Point? Any info would be appreciated.

Thanks for the input. Castaway just came out with an 8ft rod called the coastal that I was looking at buying. Great comments though. Thanks for your input and Castaway can thank you too because I think they just sold one!

10 Minute Retriever is another good book. Not as detailed as Water Dog is but has the same basic ideas. I like it a little better than Water Dog because it doesn't baby them as much. I would say you are doing a great job with your dog though so just keep her on that pace and she will be a good one. Best of luck.

I have a 15 week old black lab and she just started to get into the water about a week ago. I definitely think the waders are a good idea but it didn't work too well for me. But one day I was fishing in a pond and had my dog with me and she started going crazy for my jig I was tossing. She would try to jump and grab it out the air. So I put it in the water and she would jump after it and once she was in there I would throw the dummy out about 5 or 6 feet in front of her and she would go get it. She got used to this and now she swims and retrieves every time. I do not agree with Duck Commander Jr. though on bringing another dog with you. That is a bigger distraction than you want to deal with. Be patient and she will eventually go into the water. Good luck!
