I tell you What,, I was a proud Dad this past Saturday.. My 3 1/2 year old son entered his First Youth Bass Tournament with his PaPa (Raymond Mahfouz ) and his lovly Mom ( Tara Boone )at Henderson Lake this past Saturday 8/6/2011. Kagan sprung out of bed at 4:45 a.m. and asked me if it was time to go. I told him, yes, it is time to get up and get dressed so I can bring your mother and You to Papa's House. He then told me that he was going to catch a 100 pounds of fish, which I told him that if he does that, he would probably win.. Tara and I were so proud and amazed of how he woke up so early and was ready to go. I followed them to Henderson to watch them Blast Off!! Tara told me that they would probably be in about 11:30 so I could be there when he comes in. About 11:00, Tara called me and told me that Kagan had caught 9 Bream, which he could only turn in 5, and he caught 3 small Bass that were not keepers. She said that they would be coming in a little later than 11:30 because Papa was taking Kagan to try one more spot.. When I showed up, Kagan ran up to me, ( Remember, This is a 3 1/2 year old ) and told me that he found a LUCKY Feather and that It gave him Good Luck. I asked him, What kind of Luck, He then pulled out of the weigh in bag, A 3.77 pound Bass.... Tara told me that after she called, Papa went to another spot and at that spot, Kagan saw a big White feather in the water and threw a fit to get it. They were worried about time, but Kagan had to have this feather. After getting this feather, Kagan picked up his 'Skeet Reese' rod and reel and cast into a set of lillies by a stomp. He yelled at Papa (Mr. Raymond) and told him that he was stuck. Papa grabbed the line and felt a pull. He then told Kagan, I think you have a Fish. At that time, the fish pulled and Kagan almost went over the side of the boat into the water. Mr. Raymond caught his shirt and told him to reel in. Kagan caught a 3.77 pound Bass. They got it in the boat and hurried to the weigh in. As the Results came in for the 3-9 year old category, we were blown away, My son won his first Bass Tournament( 1st Place). This was an awesome day to see him do this and really get into it. They told me that he fished Hard all morning... It was HOT, and he kept up. I know nothing about Bass Fishing, So it is all up to Papa and Tara which Kagan was born with a fishing pole in his hand, with the big Bass fishamen Mr. Raymond is.
It was great to get a phone call from my nephew ( Ethan Boone ) Sunday morning to tell me that he killed his first deer on our deer lease. I was in Forked Island having trouble with a boat motor, trying to go hunting. The trip was canceled because of this. While driving back home discouraged, a great phone call at 7:15 a.m. picked our spirits up, Ethan saying, I killed a deer. Ethan was getting dicouraged with not seeing any deer, attention span is short in a 7 year old, but now he is all pumped up. I would like to be a bug on the wall to hear all the stories he is telling his friends at school about the never forgotten hunting trip. His dad ( Jason Boone) told me that it was the most amazing thing to see his son kill his first deer. This makes it worth while to do all what we do to prepare the woods and hunting clubs, all year long to get these great stories and memories like this. KAB Happy Holiday's
