I need opinions on how much it would cost to have a 7200sf 'L' Shaped house pad that needs to be 4 feet high, would cost to install in the North Holden area. I need the cost if dirt is hauled in..or if dirt is dug from adjoining land 100 feet away can be used. Want to start the job immediately. I can be reached at 225-252-0503 if you would rather respond there. Thank you.

While fishing a stretch of piers across from the public landing in New Roads, i came across 4 camps with nets strung across their piers out where the water gets 5-6 foot deep. One was fairly new and the others were old, but intact and had caught a nice size bass that had rotted to the skeleton among other debris. It was sad to see and makes me want to know the law concerning using...and more importantly abusing the right to use nets. Looked like they were being used to hurt bass fishermen rather than for catching dinner.
Any info whether fact or opinion is appreciated.
Thanks and if you want your opinion private, emial me at

Did You Know That Gar Eggs Make You Sick?

A few of you may have eaten gar balls (which are not as gross as they sound). But a family in Arkansas recently found out the hard way that cooking up a batch of gar eggs isn't quite so appetizing. In fact, it can be downright dangerous.

From the AP story:
HEBER SPRINGS, Ark. -- Take it from Darwin Aaron and his family in Cleburne County: gar eggs are poisonous. Tiffany Aaron said her husband, Darwin, and brother-in-law, Russell Aaron, took a long-nosed gar while spearfishing at Greers Ferry Lake on April 5. Gar meat is edible, so they figured they'd try the roe. They prepared the eggs that evening, with Darwin and Russell Aaron eating some, along with Darwin and Tiffany's 10-year-old son, Carson. Carson was the first to start vomiting at about 1:30 a.m. Russell and Darwin soon were sick, too. Tiffany Aaron looked online and read that gar eggs are poisonous. All three family members recovered after a few days. The Arkansas Game and Fish Commission said eggs from all gar species are highly toxic.

I must confess that even though I've never had the desire to try, I had no idea gar eggs were toxic. Anyone ever get sick from eating gar eggs?

Wow! We made the Field & Stream blog! Woohoo!

This is Darwin's wife and I was thrilled to find this blog post. Finally someone that didn't make us feel like total idiots. :)

To answer your questions, we live a few miles from Greers Ferry Lake. My husband is an avid spearfisherman and was anxious to get a jump start on the season. He wasn't at the lake specifically looking for gar. It just so happened that the first thing to present itself was the unfortunate gar. The guys had been told that gar was tasty and they were curious to try it. As they started cleaning the fish they discovered the eggs and decided to fry a few up just for the heck of it. My son also tried some and was the first to get sick. A couple of hours later my brother in law started vomiting and nearly 10 hours after consumption my husband got sick. It was pretty obvious that the roe had made them sick since nobody else had eaten any.
I immediately got online and (thanks to Google) found that gar eggs are highly toxic to humans. I called our family doctor and they recommended that I take them to the ER. I called poison control and they had never heard of such a thing at poisonous fish eggs. I finally decided to call the Arkansas Game & Fish Commission thinking that if anyone had some information for me, they would. The staff at AGFC was extremely helpful! They spoke with the ER doctor that treated my son and followed up with me in the days following. This story was never to be released by the AP but I hope that some good comes out of it. Surely there's a lesson to be learned here. :)

God bless.

He is doing that today. In the mean time...if you want to contact him about getting some for yourself he can be reached at Brain Nash 912-225-4774. If you need a bottle before then, i will sell a few out of the case at $5.00 each....i don't need 24 bottles...and the case cost me $90.00 + shipping. Email me at or call 225-252-0503.

Went Saturday to Lake Okhissa from about 11:30am to dark. We caught one 17 3/4" bass about 30 minutes before dark and one bream. My partner was fishing with shiners and crickets all day...i was bass fishing. Caught the bass on black and blue lizard and it was my only bite. Must have been 40 mph winds and made fishing the shallow coves rough. Water temperture was 60 degrees. The locals are complaining that the game wardens are writing tickets for idling speeds over dead throttle at all !! One guy said he got 3 tickets the same day for the same idle zone violation !! Water is very can see 8 feet down and still had a hard time finding bass or bream beds. With the 18" to 22" slot limit, it will be harder to bring home a limit, but should provide for lots of good fishing. Just downsize and use realistic colored baits, as the water is very clear.

I have a single mom neighbor's kid who is in a wheelchair and when i get rained out he comes over to help around my office. He has been wanting to go fishing...fresh or saltwater, but being self-employed the only time i get to go is on rainy days or the day or two immediately after.
Where is a good place i could take him on rainy days where we can fish from the bank or pier that we can access with his wheelchair and be under a cover from the rain. Somewhere within about 1-2 hours of Livingston parish
I really appreciate any help anyone can supply !

This was emailed to me today from a good friend. It caught me by surprise. I need to pay more attention to the new laws being written that will affect us all.

Who ever signed the Bill, needs to be voted out of office.

Now 'all Guns' must be listed on your next (2010) tax return!

As if we didn’t have enough to get upset about!
If you have a gun, I hope it isn't registered!

Senate Bill SB-2099 will require us to put on our 2009 1040 federal tax form all guns that you have or own. It will require fingerprints and a tax of $50 per gun.

This bill was introduced on Feb.. 24, 2009, by the Omama staff. BUT . . this bill will only become public knowledge 30 days after the new law becomes effective ! This is an amendment to the Internal Revenue Act of 1986. This means that the Finance Committee has passed this without the Senate voting on it at all.
Trust Obama ? ..... you must be kidding !

The full text of the IRS amendment is on the U.S. Senate homepage:
U.S. Senate
You can find the bill by doing a search by the bill number, SB-2099.
You know who to call; I strongly suggest you do. Please send a copy of this e-mail to every gun owner you know.

I have 530 acre lease off Berrytown Road. My neighbor has a 170' buck on his wall from 1987 and we saw one last year bigger than him ! This one was taken Jan 2nd by one of my friends within 200 yards of Berrytown Circle Road and rough scored 140'. The other photo is a trail cam photo. I've only had the lease for 2 years and managing for age...the genetics in the area are really good and come from Mexico and Wisconsin.. from re-stocking deer from 1935 to 1965. If you let the bucks reach 4 1/2 years or older the heard will produce huge bucks....the key is educating your neighbors on the benifits of allowing bucks to mature.

A comment titled: Lake Verret in response to a report titled: Bass at verret

Caught 25+ bass 2 weekends ago on the wind blown side of the big point just north of Bayou Tranquiel using a terminator chartreause and white spinner bait. Later a red shad brush hog. Find a windblown bank where the algae and insects have been blown into that bank by the wind for a couple days...northwest banks lately. Caught fish from 6 inches deep to 6 foot deep, but the larger fish came on the outer trees where the wind was blowing a small current past them. Expect the bite for bass to be early and late. Catfish bite all day. Any moving water seems to have them more active. Use a titanium spinnerbait as you will also catch plenty of choupique, gar and catfish and they choupique will destroy a standard wire lure. My buddy was fishing only for bream. He started with crickets and finished with night crawlers because the catfish were on fire. We got in the water at 7:30am and the bass were on fire..bite got real slow about 10:30am. We stayed till 4pm and ended the day with 30+ bass, 4 keepers...4 keeper bream and 30-40 catfish. Threw back twice as many as we caught. The catfish were spawning and keeping the bream on the move !! Many times i would see a bream leap 3-4 foot out of the water while being chased by the catfish.
Talked to lots of fishermen at attakapaws and the bream were biting much better in Lake Polourde and south Grassy Lake.
Hope this helps.

I too have done research on this matter...Peloiesm was somewhat dormant and contained until Obamaism was discovered and released into society. All the scientific community confirmed the existence of a more deadly mutant form of this diseased element to be named....BPObamaPeloiesm, which has already been found destroying crucial elements in both society and the environment at an alarming rate.

A comment titled: Profile of net owners in response to a report titled: Gill nets in False River ??

Although i am risking profiling people for the looks and upkeep of the camps...they looked like they had to be some of the oldest, rundown and unkept camps on the entire lake. I immediately assumed the nets were strung across those piers for only one piss off fishermen who are catching 'their' fish. I can fish around problem..but there were kids on jet skis that could easily drift between the piers and get tangled in those nets. Not to mention the damage to other wildlife.

A comment titled: Nets in response to a report titled: Gill nets in False River ??

The string of camps were really old and run down properties.. across the river from the public landing in the 1-2 o'clock position. I was planning to fish a stretch of 15-20 piers, working my way north towards some of the newer camps directly across from the public launch and then cranking the christmas tree reef between the newer 3 story camp and the launch. Caught one 14' bass around the scattered trees using a 3' white rage tail on a 3/8 oz. jighead. Picked up a couple other keepers towards mid river where deeper water is near shallow flat areas with structure, using Yum black/blue lizard.
