Hey guys Mr. Kendal Saltzman whose dad is the founder of Chein Caille calls really needs some help. Kendal was diagnosed last year with ALS and is in need of some drugs that are stuck in clinical trials. There is a youtube video and link to a petition. If he gets enough signatures he will be allowed access to these drugs.

The video explains it better but thats the just of it. Please pass this on to as many other outlets as you possibly can.

Ok people I really need some help with this one. A good friend of mine has lost his lab. He is a 3 year old black male named RYE. He was last seen around the Duck Festival park in Gueydan. He was wearing a collar with tags and what I believe was a neoprene camo dog vest. Someone also saw a dark colored chevy stepside, possibly lowered trying to pick him up. If you see or hear anything about a dog that fits this description please let me know 337-652-5011.

Looks as though all of the pre-season reports from south of Kaplan we correct, saw good numbers of birds this morning. Ended up 3 short of a 2 man limit but that was not b/c of a lack of opportunity, took a little while to shake off the rust before getting dialed in. Hopefully this is the beginning of a good season.

made a trip to illinois the first week of the new year. had one heck of a time getting after some big honkers, but thats a whole different kind of cold up there.can't wait to make a return trip next year.

January 18, 2008 at 7:08pm

got in to the ducks pretty good sat. morning. 7 of us all came out with limits. mallards, pintail, widgeon, greys, and teal. not a trash duck in the bunch. killed my 2 specks sunday to round out the weekend. and with L.S.U. winning the SEC championship, and getting the nod to play for the national title, i couldnt have asked for a better weekend.

A comment titled: more marks in response to a report titled: Advice: Hand signals

I would suggest not putting the dog on hand signals until his marking skills get better. It sounds to me like he has a confidence issue so I would throw as many marks as possible to build his confidence and increase his hunt drive. Putting a dog on hand signals before they have learned to mark and hunt using their nose can be more of a problem than it's worth b/c you will soon find yourself having to handle the dog to every bird killed regardless of distance or difficulty of the mark. It can be frustrating but it is necessary to help the dog learn to hunt before putting them on hand signals.

A comment titled: rare in response to a report titled: Check this out

It's a leucisitic blue wing. Leucism is a fairly unusual condition where the pigmentation cells in a bird (or any other animal) fail to develop properly. The result is a scattering of abnormally coloured (usually ‘non-coloured’) feathers, which show as white patches or white blobs randomly scattered throughout the plumage. It would definetly go on the wall.

A comment titled: try hevi metal in response to a report titled: BoatNicks

I really like black clouds but like you said they are the dirtiest shells I've ever run through my gun.I started using the new heavy metals that hevi-shot came out with and I can't say enough about them. They are a very clean shell, just as deadly, and they are cheaper than black clouds. They have half regular steel and half of the hevi-shot pellets resulting in just as many clean kills. I recommend them to all my customers and have yet to hear the first complaint.

A comment titled: start now in response to a report titled: training labs

the water dog book is great but like it was already stated a dvd helps to eliminate misinterpretation. Another tip I would give you along with never throwing sticks for your dog is never chase it if it does'nt return to you after a retrieve either put a rope on it or get it to chase you. Chasing the dog will make it think that its a game of fetch and chase, and its a hard habit to break. Always make the dog come to you to deliver the dummy or bird thrown.

A comment titled: any of these in response to a report titled: lab training

THese are all some great videos to help you get your pup headed in the right direction. If you have the time I say do it yourself also. Duck dog basics by Chris Akin is another good video on the subject. If you run into any problems feel free to give me a call and I can help you out also.

A comment titled: DVD in response to a report titled: dog training?

there are plenty of great DVD's out there that can help you if you want to train your pup yourself. Chris Akin with webfoot kennels just put out a great one that is geared strictly for hunting dogs vs the ones that teach you to train for field trials. you can find it at www.zinkcalls.com

A comment titled: no shock collar in response to a report titled: 1 year old lab help!

i would not advise you to put a shock collar on a dog that has not been properly trained to understand the correction. if you shock a dog at the wrong time you could end up ruining the dog. for example if you shock the dog for not coming to you at the end of a retrieve you could very well end up with the dog thinking it got shocked b/c it retrieved the dummy/bird that was thrown for it, thus resulting in the dog refusing to retrieve after being corrected. shock collars are not always the answer.

if your dog acts like it wants to play chase after the retrieve then make it chase you. when it gets close starting jogging backward until it gets close enough for you to take the dummy from it.

imagine if you got the wrong warden he could give you some sort of trouble. instead of using live loads i save my spent shells, knock the primers out and put in new ones. sounds about as loud as a 22.

A comment titled: no in response to a report titled: duck dog

i have trained dogs that were alot older than 18 months but normally it will take longer than if you start them at 6 months. the older the dog is the more bad habits he has been able to form.

A comment titled: know the area in response to a report titled: Duck Lease

i know the area well. grew up in kaplan and have hunted this area all my life. this year could be a pretty good year for that area with all the rice that has been planted. the last 5-10 years hardly any rice was planted so the birds would'nt stay but back when we had lots of rice in that area we hammered the birds. so you could be in for a good season. who did you get the lease from?
