New To Sportsman Network?

Me and my family booked a cabin at Percy Quinn State Park in Mississippi for the end of the month. We used to camp there very often and always did well fishing but it has been 2 or 3 years since our last trip. I was wondering if anyone has been out there lately and caught any fish...bass or sacalait? Or maybe even someone else from around here will be up there too?? We are going during my spring break and I know alot of other colleges are off at the same time. We are gonna be doing some serious fish frying and bbqing so give me a shout.

Looking for the best place to buy or possibly trade in my prop for a new one between New Orleans and Baton Rouge. Any suggestion fellas? Thanks

I have been doing a lot of fishing and exploring in the Hopedale and Delacroix area and doing fairly decent but all I keep hearing about is the Biloxi Marsh. Can anyone tell me what and where the Biloxi Marsh is?? All I know is that you get there from Hopedale. Any further information would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

I've never been to Delacroix but have been really wanting to get out there lately but the problem is that I have a 12 foot flat and I'm not really sure if I should take such a small boat out there. The question I am looking to answer is whether or not it is safe to do so. The boat runs 30-35 and I have GPS so I'm not worried about running distance or getting lost, just concerned about whether or not the boat is big enough. I'm looking to go this weekend so the quicker the replies the better!

Sorry for the late response but That is exactly how I cross stump and haven't hit anything yet. Drive it like I stole it when I cross it! Did you find some fish when you went?

Everyone crosses stump lagoon in the winter. I wait all year for it to get cold just to go back there! I understand the water gets low and you may want to do it carefully but to say choose another spot I just do not understand. You must be catching fish out that way and want it all to yourself! Either way, even if you are worried, it isn't very big and you could idle it..

I wouldn't mind getting a good wash and buff job myself. Where could I go around the Gonzales or Baton Rouge area?

I'm going to Bayou Black in the morning too. I have been speck fishing since the storms and it's about time to give it up and go for some bass. I don't have a gameplan as to what areas I'll be fishing but I'll be there bright and early. I have been hearing good reports from Bayou Black in general but no one is giving any specifics.

Went twice recently. Went Wednesday(i think) with a buddy of mine and caught 20 bass all on brush hog. Tried several baits but only the brush hog caught fish. Fought the wind and crossed the lake to fish the canals off Bayou Couba. Picked up 2 or 3 everywhere we went as long as the water was clean. Slow and steady but got the limit. Then went Saturday wanting to fish the lake itself but the water was very muddy. Fished it for a little while anyways and picked up only one. Then headed back to Bayou Couba and didnt do as well. The few I did catch were caught fishing a brush hog extremely slow. Also tried sac-a-lait from time to time and no luck except for this monster catfish my girlfriend caught. Let us know how you do because we plan on heading back real soon.

The fishing was pretty good this weekend from what I heard. A few of my buddies went there Saturday and both boats caught nice stringers. Didn't pay much attention to the whereabouts b/c I don't fish there much at all.

A comment titled: Really late post in response to a report titled: Biloxi Marsh

I have been extremely busy because of all the studying for finals. I know its late but I managed to fit in a fishing trip saturday with my mom and caught specks all day in the biloxi marsh but way more throwbacks than keepers. It really didn't matter how you fished them (bottom, popping cork, depth, bait selection). We just caught on everything. Stump Lagoon had bigger fish than other areas I fished but the wind was pretty bad in the open water. We had a blast and ended the day with 41 keeper specks and who knows how many throwbacks. Thanks for the info earlier in the week guys!

I remember a lot of the spots but I was trying to figure out what everyone was calling the Biloxi Marsh...I didn't know that I was pretty much fishing in it already. I got it now. But me and Kayla went the day after Thanksgiving. I wanted to go to Stump but with the 25 mph north winds and the tide falling so fast I decided to stay around St. Malo.. We struggled all morning but as soon as the tide slowed down enough to fish good which was at around 1 or 2ish I did some moving around and hit a spot that we caught exactly 30 keepers and several throwbacks in. We finished with 40 specks and Kayla caught a 27 and 1/2 inch red on the last cast of the day to top it off.

Thanks for the further information wilford but I do agree..That is much too far of a run when the fish are biting the way they are. I am very much satisfied with Bayou St. Malo and its many contributaries for now. I'm hoping to be out there again Saturday if the weather is good. I'm looking at the map right now and Lena Lagoon looks pretty big..I'm guessing big enough to run through huh? Looks like it would be a shorter trip to go from the MRGO through Lena and into Bayou St. Malo(maybe not though with all the little twists and turns in the bayous)

Hey Ben..Is this Ben as in my cousin Ben?? lol..From the looks of your posts and your name being Benjamin Levi I figure its gotta be you huh? I am thinking it is but anyways I have been trying to find out what and where exactly the Biloxi Marsh is because I keep hearing about all the specks out there. I read a few posts with ducks in the Biloxi Marsh too but I'm definately not the man to help you there.

Thanks for the information mudda. I do have a map and GPS and have been learning more when I go. This past weekend I did pretty good in the area you are talking about(muscelini or whatever). That is the furthest I went and next time I go I plan to go further down St. Malo and see what else I can find.

A comment titled: Just wanted to say thanks in response to a report titled: Trying to get on the water...

Thanks guys for the help. I made it to Delacroix Saturday with my girlfriend..I didn't get that second post in time so I was really unsure where to go. We stayed fairly close to the launch and fished some canals that looked good on the map. We ended the day with 23 keeper specks, one that was 3 and 1/2 pounds , a bunch of throwbacks, and our limit of big reds. It was my girlfriends first time saltwater fishing and she absolutely loved it. She struggled at first but stayed at it and caught a lot of fish. The 25 inch redfish she caught whooped her butt. I'm looking to go back next weekend and try that area around oak river you were talking about. Thanks again!
