Decided to go to grand isle to do some bank fishing this past weekend. I got there around 8:30 pm Friday night. Caught an undersized red at the fourchon bridge on a piece of bait shrimp but that was all. I threw a pearl white/ chartreuse GULP shrimp under a cork also but had no luck. I headed to the island and stopped at a few place to throw the cast net but came up empty every time. I decided to go to a spot that I can usually pull up some flounder but no luck there either except for a big crab on bait shrimp. I headed to bridge side around midnight and they had been catching large numbers of black drum on bait shrimp! I hooked into one and had some fun for a while before it snapped off. They pretty much shut off shortly after that so I moved to the bridge at Elmer's island. Cracked that crab in half and tossed it out along with another rod with shrimp. It wasn't long and the crab rod started running. After a battle, I ended up with a 45lb black drum. (Cheap scale). Released him and then the shrimp took off. It was an 18lb red. After that I had nothing else until I went out Saturday eve. We caught 2 reds and 2 black drum. Biggest red was 42' and 35 lbs. All caught on cracked crab.
got a pic of this one and a few others this morning
