New To Sportsman Network?

Hopefully some of you can provide some insight. I'm planning getting a new motor and have narrowed it down to these two. If any of you have experience with these two motors can you offer up some comparisons? Thanks.

Anyone have any recommendations on where the girlfriend and I can go catch some bass towards the end of the week. Preferably within a couple hours of BR. I just got back from summer camp for the reserves and I'm not really sure where to try 'em. Wanted to hit the spillway but guess I missed out on that. And don't worry we'll catch and release.

Can anyone suggest a good archery shop around the Baton Rouge Area. I used to go to Archery Haven and always had good service but I think he's still closed. I don't necessarily mind going to Bowie but it's hit or miss on the quality of service in my opinion. I prefer to give my business to the small shops anyway.

I know there used to be something in the regs about scouting for Lottery Turkey Hunts the Friday prior to the hunt. I've looked everywhere and can't find anything about it now. I would really like to go scout prior to my hunt but only if it's legal. If anyone knows where I can find this info I would appreciate it.

Has anyone heard any reports out of Blind River? Was there a big fish kill there? Thinking about going down there soon. Thanks.

Does anyone know where I can get a good quality fire ring (for camp fires)? Cabela's has a 36" one that looks great but I'm not sure how long it would last. Tractor supply also has one the same size but different material. I would like to find on a little larger than 36" if possible, and apparently it also "can't look plain" but trust me this isn't as important. I'm sure it doesn't take much to make one but I don't have the proper equipment.

Does anyone know if Campos has a seasonal launch fee or is it daily only? $8 a day is gonna add up by the end of duck season. I don't know much about the area or if there are even any other launches on the Shell Beach side so any info would be appreciated. Thanks

I know you get what you pay for but was wondering if anyone has seen these or tried one? I'm not necessarily in the market for a new camera but saw this and was curious.

Does anyone know how long it will take the water to drop back down to normal in the Grand River/ Bayou Maringouin area? Or is there somewhere online I can go to check the water level? Thanks!

Anyone go down there this weekend? Just wondering what the water looked like and if anything was caught. Thanks.

A comment titled: Thanks in response to a report titled: Bass

Thanks JB, actually thought about trying Old River, figured everything else was biting there why not. I've never been there, would I be ok in a small jon boat?

I read the post about Okahissa as well. Probably won't be headed up that way anytime soon. Thanks anyway.

A comment titled: Shops in response to a report titled: Baton Rouge Area Archery Shop

Thanks guys I appreciate it, I don't mind going to the bigger stores, including Bowie, but like I said I would rather find a small shop. Bass Pro and Cabela's will get along just fine whether I go there or not but with a small shop my business may actually make a difference. I was thinking of trying A-1 Archery but wanted a little feedback first. I do appreciate all the responses though.

A comment titled: Either in response to a report titled: Balistic Guru's......Got an opinion???

I'm no guru but both have their advantages and disadvantages. But I also wouldn't limit myself to just those two calibers. The 44 mag is a good choice for that range and plus depending on the actual rifle you can use it for primitive as well. But if you ever plan on hunting any other conditions you will be limiting yourself on distance. The 30-06 on the other hand is a very versatile round and will work just fine short or long yardage, but is not legal for primitive. You may want to also consider 30-30 and .308 both of these rounds work very well in the brush but like the 30-06 are not legal for primitive. Between those two if it were me and I knew I would never have shots over 100-150 then I would definitely go with the 44 just so I could use it during primitive. Hope that helps.

A comment titled: Cabela's Pine Ridge in response to a report titled: Shotgun Scopes

I have an 870 slug gun and last year I "temporarily" put a Cabela's Pine Ridge 2.5-7x32mm shotgun scope on it. It has 4 inches of eye relief and for the money I was very impressed. I'm a firm believer in you get what you pay for but I see no reason to buy a more expensive scope. This one has done very well. I think it runs around $70.00

A comment titled: Honor Box in response to a report titled: Shell Beach Launch

I would definitely pay if there's an honor box. But you're right it is a long way through no wake. But it may be worth putting in there and out past Breton Sound Marina to avoid the lines, but I guess that's still over a mile of no wake. Anyway I guess I'll talk to them at Campo's about a season rate. If that doesn't work then I guess I'm just gonna have to suck it up! Thanks for the feedback!

A comment titled: Remington Accutips in response to a report titled: Talk about resiliace

I shoot the Remington Accutips out of my .308, very accurate and of the 5 deer I've shot since switching, 3 dropped in their tracks and the other 2 went 15-20 yards. The two that didn't drop, one was shot too far back, and the other blew out both front shoulders it ran on it's chest for 10 yards then rolled 5 yards down a hill and expired. These are ballistic tips.

A comment titled: Primitive? in response to a report titled: .45-70 and/or .444

I'm guessing he picked these two calibers because he plans on the rifle being used for primitive weapon season. If that's the case the 30-30 isn't gonna cut it.

A comment titled: Last year in response to a report titled: WIDOWMAKER'S SPOTTED FAWN SMACKDOWN # 4

I don't think this is something fake trying to be passed off as real. It' obvious that it is a post from last year that someone dug up to prove that he kills more than just does. I'm neutral on this so please don't jump on me.

A comment titled: Optima Elite in response to a report titled: Question on a deer rifle for Kid

With the Optima Elite you can always buy another barrel in a different caliber at a later date. To me that is the way to go. You can buy her a 7mm-08 now and if she ever wants something else all you have to do is get the new barrel.

Try these websites, they don't really have anything for Natch. Parish but there are some in neighboring parishes like Bienville.

A comment titled: Make a Move in response to a report titled: Another one

Why don't you leave your feeder where it is and just move your stand next to the high traffic area. If the coyote is pushing the deer, there wouldn't be any sign in the general area not just around your stand. Don't get me wrong I say shoot him, but if the deer are still in the area but just not around your stand, then I think the problem is something else.

A comment titled: Morganza in response to a report titled: Question to all fishermen of South Louisiana!!!

These guys are right, there is a set order in which they open the spillways. BC, then Morganza, and if that isn't enough the fuse plug levee north of the ORCS can be blown. Discharge has to reach a certain volume for each one to be opened. Like they said Morganza has only been opened once in '73. Since then the Corps added the auxillary control structure, which takes some of the strain off the main structure. Keep in mind the ORCS wasn't constructed to prevent flooding down the Miss. it was built to prevent the Miss from permanently shifting and following the Atch. The Corps maintain a 70/30 split of the discharge. The spillways help with flooding but are primarily there to take stress off of the ORCS and prevent capture. If it wasn't for the ORCS, this would have already happened. This link does a much better job of explaining it, hope this helps. http://www.americaswetlandresources.com/background_facts/detailedstory/LouisianaRiverControl.html
