Couple of big boys and a decent mess from the long weekend.

May 27, 2015 at 4:12pm

Late posting but caught a few over the Labor Day weekend on jug lines.

September 09, 2014 at 2:11pm

Left out from Bobby Lynns early Saturday. Headed to the marshes on the West side. Set the anchor and picked away at the trout until they shut down at 10:30 or so. Made a short move and about an hour later the reds turned on. It was my son's first saltwater trip and it was definitely a memorable one. Ended the day with 25 trout and 6 reds.

Pretty slow weekend with my jug-lines. Highlight was this big boy waiting on me Sunday morning. Shad was the bait.

June 10, 2013 at 1:33pm

Good news was my lines were only in the water about 10 minutes before he bit. Bad news was that I only caught 2 more to go with him. Chicken hearts near the intersection of the Diversion canal and the Amite river.

33 pounds. Cut shad on jug-line. Amite River.

September 05, 2010 at 12:14pm

Went by the house to catch a few bait bream for my jug lines and Alex caught his first fish all by himself. He handled the cast, the hookset, and the reeling in all on his own. Could not be any prouder......

April 16, 2010 at 8:49pm

Picked up a few cats over the weekend. Would also like to thank whoever ran my lines Saturday night and cut the hooks and weights off some of my jugs.

Chris Holmes, you out there? Completed my necessary course, got printed, got photo'd, mailed all my packet into Florida for my permit. Now i'm hearing that Louisiana will no longer recognize the Florida permit. Everyone that I talked to before doing this said to get the Florida permit. More reciprocity, less frequent re-certification, yadda yadda yadda. Anyone know any more?

Me, the boy, and his dog. This was his first trip to help with the catfish lines. He had a blast. Hopefully many more to come.

Anybody have a current telephone number for Breton Sound Marina? I pulled up 504-473-2008 off the interweb, and was not-so-kindly informed that I had the wrong number.

Capt. Paul, bought a used boat with a Garmin 178 in it. Here lately if i'm running up the middle of a wide canal, the unit shows me as being almost to the woodline to my right. If in a narrow canal, it shows me being in the woods. Any kind of adjustment that I can make to it, or is this something that would have to be addressed by Garmin? If it makes any difference, the unit is mounted directly behind the walk-thru windshield on the boat.

Avery Monroe, born Oct. 16th. 6 pounds 4 ounces. Mom and baby girl are both doing fine

October 27, 2008 at 9:10am

Anybody planning on running in the poker run in the spillway Saturday? This will be my first time, just wondering if anyone had been before.

August 08, 2008 at 8:21am

Mess of catfish off of jug-lines.

Recently purchased 2007 Yamaha 200 HPDI. It has about 50 hours on it. Cranked it Saturday, warning buzzer sounded. Not a solid beep, but beep-beep-beep. Both oil tanks full, nothing blocking the water intake, peeing fine. I put it in gear to get away from the launch a bit, and it stopped. Idling in neutral, buzzer was sounding, as soon as it was put into gear, no buzzer. Thoughts? Suggestions?

I am about to purchase a troll motor and 2 batteries for my 20' V-hull aluminum boat. The battery trays are welded into the front center storage compartment. Because of their location and the added vibration and bouncing in that area of the boat, would I do better with a gel battery, or do y'all think a standard battery would be ok?

Anybody have any comments, good or bad, about A-1 Aluminum Boats out of the Morgan City area. The design of the one I am looking at looks identical to Scully's, just wondering if the quality is there also.

When do the crabs start running in the Blind River or Lake Maurepas area?

Drowned a few shiners Saturday, looking for a few Sac-a-lait. Nothing doing. Fished the Petit Amite in both directions off of the Diversion Canal. Caught 4 bass and a bream, all on shiners. The bass ranged from 8 inches up to about 12. Wasn't a total loss. Set my jugs out with the leftover minners, ended up with 15 blue cats. Biggest was 9 pounds. Sorry, no pic this time, donated them to my in-laws before I had a chance to take a photo.

Campground is $3 and has a fair amount of parking. I think Bayview went up to either $7 or $10 and that place is starting to look like a flea market or something. Very little parking there too.

State's completely re-building that launch and I don't think they're finished yet. Close, but not yet. Campground in Port Vincent has a launch.

Thanks! They should be. They were biting on everything. Worms, crawfish, and hot dogs.

Nice fish and very cool story!

Had something similar happen to me as a teenager on Catahoula Lake, I had wing-shot a greenhead. Chased it and chased it and chased it some more, finally finished it off and retrieved it. When I turned around, the blind was probably a quarter mile, if not further away, and I was panting from the chase. Started walking back and here comes my new best friend in a bateau. He helped me in and brought me right up to the blind. I couldn't thank him enough. Even offered him my duck, but he refused!

You could go to the camp ground on Hwy. 16 in Port Vincent and put in there. The canal leads out to Colyell Bay. May have some luck beating the banks. There's also a bait shop in the parking lot.

I run jugs in that general area on occasion. When they're biting they'll eat anything. Nite crawlers, hot dogs, shad, mullet, bream (live or cut), chicken hearts or liver. My favorite being cut shad. I normally stay out of the river and fish the shallower canals. My jugs are rigged with a weight that goes to the bottom to keep the wind or current from dragging them off and or bunching them all up.

Launch into the intracoastal from Jack Miller's landing. Head South, less than a mile the river splits, stay to the right. Looking to your left you'll start seeing 'State Land' signs posted. Find yourself a spot and get after it. If you cruise the bank and keep looking, you'll see some spots that have been used for this before. Only drawback is you mentioned swimming and this area does have a fair amount of barge travel.

Been a few years since I went, but the gate you have to go thru to access the ponds was just wide enough for my 4 wheeler to fit. Way too narrow for my trailer to go thru.....Just a heads up.

Yes to your first question. Because of the troll motor, your canoe will need to be registered and have a sticker and numbers from WL&F.

As far as the troll motor, I'd rinse thoroughly with fresh water after each use.

I'd say you could probably put some Marvel Mystery oil or Krol in the cylinders to free them up. But almost certain the bearings are gonna need to be replaced.
