Weekend fishing out of Cocodrie, La for the 4th annual Cowboys & Cajuns Rodeo. Enjoyed two days of fishing with both teams of anglers from Texas, along with, our veteran pro Bull rider from Baton Rouge, La. Very close, but no winners on day #1. All fish caught within 3 min ride from the docks. Look for banks with current pushing bait against it. Bait shrimp under a cork.

Over the weekend Billy, Steven and their wives from Natchitoches,La joined me for some fishing out of Dularge,La. We were met with rough weather on day 1 and a tough bite on day 2. Managed to box some redfish on cracked crab and battle some big drum to release back into the water. Highlight of the trip was the boat ride back inland, definitely one to remember.

** Big thanks to Capt. Marty for putting trips together.

It was an early daybreak trout bite that slowed as the incoming tide was peaking. Instead of waiting for the change, we hit the marsh to try for redfish. Just a crazy amount of redfish in the Dularge area. Gold Spoons, Avacado/red flake Swimbait w/ gold blade are best baits. Market shrimp under a cork. Good luck!

Big thanks to Capt. Marty for setting trip up.

7/10 Great night of fishing out of Dularge. As we were just about to reach our two man limit, suddenly well over a hundred trout surfaced to feed all at once. Before you could crank your reel, you would have a double. An amazing site to see.

6/21 Traveled a long way out to my first fishing spot only to find the water to be heavily stained and no tidal movement. With no live bait available, i knew i have to make some adjustments to bring some fish onboard. Here is the best color bait and technique that worked to catch fish in these conditions. The brightest solid chartreaus color sand eel or swimbait you can find. Trout tend to be closer to the bottom in heavy stained water. Presentation was a very slow crawl on the bottom and ocasional bounce of the bait. The bite will be slow, but grind away until you put a decent box of fish together.

Ever wonder what a speckle trout filet is worth? or just what some people are willing to pay for it?

Joining me onboard from Missouri was Josh Gaddis with a wish to experience some south lousiana fishing for his birthday. Not the most ideal conditions, though we managed to box a limit of redfish and some nice trout to take back home.

As the winds increased, agressively working a brass bead thundercork rigged with 1/8 oz tandem matrix green hornet produced all of the trout. Water clarity was clear to stained. Redfish fell for bait shrimp under a cork. Good luck out there.

Used the Shimano Curado baitcaster for many year without any problems from the reel. Recently purchased G series with problems right out the box. What are some comments both positive and negative from you guys that use this reel?

Joining me on his long awaited trip today was Marty Gatruaux and crew, silent auction winner of the donated fishing trip to the Denise Breaux Memorial Fund. A good bite was found on the north end of the lake at sunrise, then slowed as the wind picked up. In all, guys had a good day fishing the Dularge area for the first time. TKO shrimp in opening night color 2 feet under a Cajun Thunder Cork worked the best.

8/15/13 With a change in wind direction and a 10-15 knot prediction, decided to just stay home instead of fight that battle fight battle in open water at night. After checking another forcast,it stated 1-2 mph till morning. I then step otside to confirm and went with the latter forcast. It was a last minute decision that turned out to be a good one for my nephew and i. The gulf was slick calm and hungry trout were were busting shrimp on the surface 360 degrees around the boat. Fish counter stopped at 118 fish caught keeping the 50 biggest trout for a fish fry this weekend.

It was a pleasure having Capt. Chris Venable and his son Blake onboard for some big trout action out of Dularge, La 8/5. Blake wasted no time muscling trout into the boat. It was all smiles from start to finish. Here is a little video of your excitement.

Matrix Tiger Bait, Highlife Swimmer Jr. Tsunami Pro Blue back were baits used put these fish on ice.

Onboard this am from San Antonia,Tx were Lloyd & Lloyd, along with Katelyn & Justin for some predawn big trout action out of Jugs marina in Dularge,La. After a slow start, we finally hit the mark on an agressive bite. No energy drinks were needed, the sight of these 18-21 inch trout coming over the gunnel had everyone on deck. Largest trout mesured 23 inches. Several bull red releases and 82 trout later, my crew was done. Tsunami Pro Blue back did the damage. Thank you guys for letting me take you on a memorable fishing trip.

If you share a passion for catching nice trout, i have some openings till Wed. Good luck fishing fellow anglers.

Fellow sportsman seeking friendly competition or a chance to test your skills in a new area, this event is for you: Look for leward side of Marsh Island to produce on carolina rigged cracked crab or live mullet this weekend. Shotgun start from Quintanna boat launch at 6 am. Most of all, proceeds to benefit a great cause.

7/22 All the way from Odesa,Tx were Wesley,Danielle and son Kaleb, a young man that shares a passion for fishing. Upon meeting him at the dock, he stated he wanted to catch and release some fish before returning home. On our first attempt to leave the dock, we were quickly met with lightning from a building storm. With no choice but to return and seek safty for all of us, I could see the disappointment on Kaleb's face. I informed him to hang in there, we will try to leave again once this storm moves on. Those words brought a smile back to Kaleb's face. The radar indicated a break in the weather and that is when we made our move to an area i had no intention of fishing. Managed to find some clear water, then let Kaleb do his thing. He hooked into a variety fish and according to the smile on his face, that was exactly what he came to Louisiana for. Here is your video i promised to post on the sportsman for you little buddy. Hope you have a safe trip on the long drive back home.

*Special thanks for Capt. Anthony Kyzar for setting up trip.

With calmer seas in the forcast, this weekend is setting up very nice for Caliou Bay out of Dularge, La. Eastern shoreline intersecting bayous on a falling tide should be productive. A little video taken prior to site going down. Good luck fishing.

Heck! It seems a limit of Specklet Trout in the freezer could hold more value than a 401k.

A comment titled: Reel grind, drag seized. in response to a report titled: Deal? or what it's worth?

Agree with you there Capt. JS. First trip out with a new G7, noticed the grinding and made every adjustment possible. Also, noticed it would not cast as far as it should be. Returned it to Academy and had to just about argue that something was wrong with this reel. Finally, it was exchanged and the second reel after a few months started to grind and eventually the drag completely seized. I am waiting for that reel to return from the factory.

The sale price from $ 160.00 to $99.00 will get alot of people to rush out to buy this G-series. I hate to see anybody have to experience problems with a new reel that are already known.

I have alway like Shinano products. What I am hearing from others that have bought the G series is a legitimate quality issue. I would hope Shimano is aware and taking measure to improve the the reel.

Hello there! Maybe try launching at the CoCo marina, then paddle into Rabbit bayou and head north to fish the duck ponds on a high tide. Tight along the bank with a gold spoon or market shrimp under a cork should produce some redfish. Good Luck!
