Ok guides and fellow DU fisherman; I'm in need of some guidance. I just started fishing DU in January of last year and fished it pretty hard all year. I've managed to find the fish starting around May thru Oct. and now have some honey holes for that time of year. I just purchased a new (new to me) rig (from advice of Capt Marty that I might need a biger boat, No more 14' alum. in the middle of Lake Mechant w/3' seas ...HAHA.), '97 VIP 17.5' rolled gunnel, shallow draft bay boat w/70hp E'rude; and am looking to make my first trip in it Thur. or Fri and the end of next week also. I feel that I know the area pretty well but still need help. So; my question is this... What kind of patterns should I be looking for to find the specks? Where should I be fishing (areas, cannals)? Any perticular type of bottom, cuts, banks, open water, dead ends? From the reports I've been reading, I know they are hitting swim baits and such starting off on bottom and slow then trying to bring it higher through the water colum. I'm just not sure how to fish this time of year and want to change that ASAP! I'd appriciate all the advice I can get.
Thanks and God Bless! Happy fishing!

I hear the specks are bitting down in Dularge area; but thats all I hear. I haven't fished there in many years and have just recently boat a small boat(15', 25Hp). Can someone please point me in the right direction for a good successful trip for tomorrow with my Father? Also, what about areas like Bayou Sale and Bayou Grand Calliou; Are there any plces down there where one can go and limitout like I'm hearing of Dularge.

Capt Jim, Thanks for the hospitality. I think I could speak for the twelve of us when I say this; Though we had to fight the winds a run from the rain, we had a blast! Plenty of laughs and jokes to make up the time between fish! Those of us on Capt. Jim's boat just enjoyed his guiding and help. You have a stand up service going on! Maybe next time, mother nature will cooperate for us

Thanks agin,

A comment titled: Honey Holes in response to a report titled: Dularge Trout Explosion 4-10-2012

Hey Capt. Marty, I wish I could Find a honey hole like that. After 3 months of fishing on my weeks off from working offshore; I finally was able to catch more than two or three keeper specks. Today, I chased the birds until 2:00pm to fill my limit. I caught pleanty of small ones and a bunch of gaff tops; but in the mix were some really nice specks and a few white trout too. Thanks again for those pointers a couple of months ago. I'll see you on the water!
