My 10 year old killed a mature doe then his 1st Buck on opening day of Youth Season in Pike County Mississippi. Talk about one proud Dad.

November 11, 2014 at 4:33pm

My dad shot this 10pt 1/20/12 on our East Feliciana lease. It was 75 degrees and he was cruising looking for doe's. He had really good mass, 6' bases and scored 130 1/8

I have gotten a few pics of this Doe with a collar around her neck. Anyone know anything about this? I don't know if it is a tracking collar or if it got loose from a pin. Any info would be appreciated.

I have a few pics of this little guy, he has some kind of growth on the side of his face. He seems to be a 1.5 year old button buck. He also hangs with a spike that has the same tumor looking thing on the side of his head. Just wondering if anyone has seen this before, and if he needs to be taken out, or if he'll be alright.

I got a bunch of pics of this guy, he seems to be a 1.5 year old button buck. Maby spikes will break through soon, but i have never seen a button this old. I might have to take him out if i get a chance.

Had my little boy with me for the 1st deer of the season. It was the 1st time he was with me for a kill. He was excited beyond belief. He is hooked at age 5.

My good friend Sean Adams Killed this deer this morning (01/02/08). He is a 10 pt with a 20" inside spread. By the way, he killed him out of my ground blind, but that is what friends are far. I am very excited that one of us got him. Congrats Sean!!!

I hunt the same property as choupic. These are some pictures taken off the 300 acres in early October. Management is the key, we don't shoot it unless it is mature (3.5 year old or older).

We hunt off hwy 10 in Jackson, right on the east and west feleciana line. We had a great year, but we always have had plenty of deer.

Jay has done 3 shoulder mounts for me, he charges $400, but there are not many around that do as detailed work for the price.

We have been seeing a lot of deer with these warts in the past few weekends. This is the first time we have ever seen this and some of the deer have them all over their body. Can they spread this to the other deer in the area?

A comment titled: thanks in response to a report titled: what's up with this little guy

Thanks for the info, i did a little research and these are warts from a virus caused from insects and they will be fine. I was just a little worried, I am gonna let these fellas get some age now that i know they will be alright.

A comment titled: one more year in response to a report titled: should this deer be shot?

I just never saw a buck with nubs this time of year at 1.5 years old, but our rut is really late and he may be a late born from last year.

i have had two in the last year that will not turn on. tried changing batteries and everything. The only one that is still working is the 1st one I bought. I have switched to cuddeback, a little more money, but well worth it.

i saw that one, but i don't think that cuddeback even makes the nontypical any more.

They do not review lots of the cameras out there. Don't know if i missed something, but they only review a few brands and Cuddeback is not one of them.

A comment titled: cuddeback excite in response to a report titled: Game Camera

I have the Moultrie 4.0 and cuddeback. The cuddeback is a way better camera. The pictures are much clearer and you don't get pictures of nothing on them. They are a little more in price, but worth it. I found them on ebay for about $150

A comment titled: a few years in response to a report titled: Deer Management

well it took us a few years to get some really nice bucks, but we only shoot mature 3.5 year old or older bucks. Basically if we would put it on the wall, we shoot it. We are also really quite about getting around on our lease. The leases around us ride their 4 wheelers all over checking cameras and stuff without the luck or pictures we get. We just park at gate and walk. Also you have to kill enough does to keep them in check, that is where we get our meat, and trophy hunt from their. We plant food plots, but do not use feeders. We occasionally throw corn out on the food plots. We also hunt out of lock-ons and ground blinds that stay up and are hidden.
You just have to let them grow up, its hard, but it pays off.

A comment titled: You can manage 400 acres in response to a report titled: Deer Management

I hunt on a 300 acre lease in Jackson Louisiana with not nearly that many people, which is right down the road from you. The people around us do not manage, but we still have some really good bucks. We only shoot the bucks that we would put on the wall and take off does for meat. You can go back and look at some of my previous post to see some of the bucks we have pictures of and taken. You have to let them get some age!

A comment titled: 170" 8pt in response to a report titled: Monster 8 Point

A friend of mine had pictures of this deer on his game cam and a guy on the neighboring property killed it. I was fortunate enough to see the rack at my buddy's house who is mounting the deer for the guy. It is enormous. It scored a little over 170" with the kickers and 165" as just an 8 pt. His main beam was 6" in girth between his G3 And the end of his main beam. He is a freak. I have the game cam pics. Will post.

That is truly a nice deer. Does not matter what it scores, although it will rack up some serious mass inches. Very unique deer. Congrats

A comment titled: 300 win mag, 7mm Rem mag in response to a report titled: New deer rifle

I shoot a 300 win mag in the Remington model 700 sendero and the recoil is not bad at all. I also shoot a 7mm Rem mag in the Encore. Both of the rounds are really flat shooting and with these rounds I don't have to worry about those big 200lb plus deer.
