Any body have any reports about Vermilion Bay as of yet? I haven't been since the warmer weather has arrived and was wondering if its worth it yet or not. I don't really have the time to head down to DU right now and was looking for somewhere a bit closer to home (Lafayette).

Everyone,
Lets make this a usefull post. Things I and probably others are looking for. Tell what you know.

1) Name of your lake
2) When does your lake usually spawn and for how long
3) What is the best bait for this time; type/color
4) What part of the lake/structure do you like
5) Special technique that works for you and others
6) Other (anythink unusual or helpfull

This could be very good to newbies and advanced fisherman who are stuggling or new to the area or who are planning on making a trip.

Anyone know a good place to place a slat trap near Lafayette area. Any advice would be appreciated. Do's / Dont's. The more advice the better. Thanks.

catfish00369,

Thanks for sharing. Sounds like a Larto tip. Its always nice to hear what other successful fishermen are trying and succeeding/failng with. I do more failing than anything, but I get closer every time I wet the line. I'm to ADD to stay in one lake or spot, so I love to hear what different areas provide. Good luck to ya and throw some more sac pics up when you get a chance.

Thanks Ranger. This winter if fished as deep as I could (there's that trial and error). I always appreciate the help.

abeastandasavage: Very comical; 'I reckon.'

abeastandasavage,
Thanks for the helpful offer. I, like you, have done more trial and error than anything (mostly error) the past few months. I am also amazed at how some people are too selfish with THEIR fish and THEIR techniques and THEIR advice too share with someone who is willing to learn. Everything I have learned about anything, someone taught it to me. I guess they learned how to read, write, fish, and succeed (debatable) at their job was all learned by themselves. That’s ignorant. In some cases, that could get you killed; literally. I created this post to give me and other FELLOW fisherman some advice in order to enjoy this great activity, especially for those who enjoy traveling to different areas and can’t put the time in to learn the tricks every lake has. I know the times when I get a bit too selfish with my knowledge of anything, my selfishness will soon enough punish me. I’m glad there or more like me and you than catfish369. If you read this initial post, it asks for tips not honey holes (would never do that). I live and fish closer to Henderson than any other place, so any sac-a-lait info relating to this area would be much appreciated. Never got to Verette yet, but plan on making a trip soon. Thanks again and GOOD LUCK to both of us.

A comment titled: Cazan Lake in response to a report titled: Area sacalait spawns

I have a little experience fishing the semi-private (small fee)Cazan lake near Ville Platte. If I had to fish over a two week period here it would be in early/mid March. The hour or so before dark on the Southeast end of the lake. Any beetle spin (usually blue) at a normal retrieve will have very good results each and every night. Even from the bank will work. Pirogues or trolling motor a flat is easy in here. No need at this time to work the cypress trees. Just find a cut fish the open water. The channel is not so productive then. Shiners on yooyos overnight will also produce. The pressure is not bad for this little lake.

Lets here from you.

A comment titled: Chicot, no luck in response to a report titled: Chicot Park

Guys,
I am new to sacalait fishing, especially at Chicot (first weekend). I had no luck at all. I know the wind and weather werent very good, but reports were good for the lake in recent history. I fished the South end for several hours morning and afternoon this past weekend with multiple combinations of jig colors and spinners at various depths. Straight lining and slip floats. it sucked. What am I doing wrong? I would like to head back there from my home in Lafayette, but not if the results stay the same. Help me please.

Thanks for the information. I will give a try. Did you use anything other than black/blue jigs or is that the common staple there? I figured they may have moved out a bit. Any more info would be appreciated. I will have my two young sons with me.

Guys,
Im heading to Ville Platte this weekend (Feb. 10th)and was planning on hitting Chicot. Are they still biting and are blue jugs the way to go. Previous posts said 2-3 ft deep. Is that still the case or do you think the weather has sent them a bit deeper now. Let me know

A comment titled: Some advice in response to a report titled: Hungry Cat's

Hey Red Robin,

Congrats on the great catch. I would never ask someone any specifics on their 'honey hole,' but was wondering if you might reveal a general area/body of water where I could attempt to duplicate that kind of success. Since most other species in your area have shut their mouths for a while, I would love to find some success on a few whisker skins. Thanks

A comment titled: Sac-a-lait in response to a report titled: Boat Launch at Henderson

The bass were biting well on spinner baits a few weeks ago, but I've heard they have reduced a bit as of late. I am desperately looking for some sac-a-lait in Henderson. I've tried the drop offs and I-10 with no luck. Any help for some winter time slabs would be much appreciated.

A comment titled: Public Landing at Henderson in response to a report titled: Boat Launch at Henderson

The public launch at Exit 121 at the visotor's center is in terrible shape. The vegetation will not allow anyone without four wheel drive to launch; and anything other than a skiff will not be able to navigate to the lake. Something needs to be done. You will have to go through Henderson to McGees on the levee.
