Took a buddy of mine, Kalon, who y'all probably know around here, went scoutin with me the other day and we stumbled across some beautiful fish! Wind picked up to ridiculous speeds but it didn't matter much because the reds were riding high. Poled around the stumps and snuck up to some tailers early and then sightifished em the rest of the day. Even busted out the fly rod for some awesome action.

Mainly threw the purple haze Vortex Shad all morning on a David's Custom Tackle Gameday Jighead and then when the sun came up and the reds got a little spooky it was crawfish time!
Get out and get catchin!

Nicole and I headed on down the road today to check the pumpkin patch out of Sweetwater Marina today. Water is still pretty dirty around areas that abnormally crystal clear this time of year but when we did find the clean water, the reds were thick. Started a little off with breaking off 4 reds, no clue why, but kept trolling on down the grass beds and finally got on a roll and Nicole and I started picking them off. Pink Champagne and Lemonhead Matrix Shads on David's Custom Tackle weedless hooks along with Golden Eye jigheads were the ticket today. Wind was calm and the reds were floating high and glowing in the clean Delacroix water. Can't beat waking up late and floating in the skinny water and pitching at some golden reds. If you're looking to get in on that sightfishing action, head on down to the best launch down the road, Sweetwater Marina, soon and get after em!

It's been an awesome past two weeks in the lake. This southeast and south wind has been keeping the water clean and raising the salinity everyday. Nicole and I worked hard for a couple days last week and found them stacked one afternoon and have been getting after them every morning or afternoon we can. Bait of choice has been the Midnight Mullet Matrix Shad on a 3/8 Jighead. Been a tough bite but the specks are all nice. Anywhere from 16 to 22 inches with a couple fish that have been bigger than that. The fish are out there, just gotta put in the time and work to find them. Here's some pictures from the past couple trips. Been averaging around 18 or so every trip with two trips having just under 50.

Headed down to Lake Charles this past weekend to make a trip with Captain Jeremy Waltrip and dam it was probably one of the best big trout trips I've made in my life! Started off on Saturday afternoon throwing mirrodines and ultraviolet Matrix Shads and catching a bunch of bull reds and some decent specks close to the launch and then the next morning headed down south for some monsters! It was a rough ride there and back with the wind blowing steady at 30 but we managed to get on a flat early in the morning and got on one incredible big trout bite!!! I started off throwing an Ultraviolet Matrix Shad and caught a few and missed a few nicer fish and then started throwing a Mirrodine xl and caught some beautiful specks!! After we both caught out fair share of big specks we headed on over to some of the deeper water spots where we were jigging a LemonHead Matrix Shad on a 3/8 Golden Eye. Say there for a little while and smoked some reds a few specks and some decent flounder and then headed in before the wind blew us away.
It was definitely a trip I will never forget!!!!!

April 15, 2014 at 10:51am

Cold and windy Marsh day yesterday so I had to head on down to the island. Water was warmer than it has been so the fish held around the holes instead of in them and as usual for this time of year, they were big and fat! Tried a mirrorodine for a little bit but couldn't fish it too well because it was so windy so I stuck with old faithful and put on a 3/8 Bulls Eye Jighead and a Kamkaze Vortex Shad and Shawn went with the Ultraviolet Matrix Shad and we got to jigging. Pretty much every fish held right on the ledge heading just to the edge of the holes we fished. Didn't smoke em but ended up with a few reds and about 20 specks all in the 2-3 pound range with two pushing 4. Hard to beat an awesome day in terrible conditions like that.

March 27, 2014 at 9:50am

Started out the morning with a cool breeze out on the lake and caught a few more nice specks and then went and smoked the sac a lait in the afternoon. Won't be long before the specks really turn on out there in the lake but days like this will definitely keep me entertained for a while. Caught the specks jigging the Ultraviolet Matrix Shad and the Nightruse Vortex Shad again. And sac a lait on opening night and blue and white micro jigs.

March 06, 2014 at 1:09pm

Few specks on the tracks in the morning and a box full of bass and specks in the afternoon. Specks and flounder were caught jigging the Ultraviolet and Nightruse Matrix and Vortex Shads and sac a lait were caught jigging opening night and blue and white micro jigs.

March 06, 2014 at 1:00pm

Only in Louisiana can you have tables that look like this. Hopefully this last front gets out of the way soon because the fishing has just been getting better and better everyday. Kamikaze Vortex Shads and Ultraviolet Matrix Shads were the trick the past couple days. And tube jigs in blue and white and opening night for the sac a lait. Looking forward to a good spring filled with tons of nice specks but until then, days full of a few specks, flounder, and tons of sac a lait, bass and hybrids, white bass, and perch will do just fine for me.

February 13, 2014 at 12:51pm

Well much like most of my last posts, its been tons of reds. We went out the other and got into some of our deep canals we be been fishing and slammed the reds again and then continued to tag em till I ran out of tags again and then even brought the mini spins this trip for a really awesome fight. Went the bext day and it was the same story, reds until you cant take em anymore. Caught em on Pink Champagne Matrix Shad as well as the Spartacus Vortex Shad. Cant wait to bounce around the lake soon for sole fat specks but until then, ill be seeing red. Check out the latest DocksideTV video 'The Chase is On' for more info on these trips.

I've been hearing a lot of negativity from people complaining about this but what people don't realize is that it's because of them that it had to come to this. I have been fishing the roadside of LA1 for a couple years now and had some amazing days and got it figured out to the T, I would say most of the time. That area is also pretty awesome at certain times of the year and before all this went down, I used to do a lot of wade fishing around there before I knew the legality of the water and marsh land and instead of WW3 going down, I soon learned from a few of the guys around there where you shouldn't be and those couple times the past couple years they have been some of the nicest people and politely told me where I shouldn't be so I left. One other time I was told something on a different part that I did not know about and the person told me politely that I can finish fishing the area I was walking to but next time I would know that it was not the area I should be in. But because of stupid people that had no respect to even listen to why they are not allowed there or reason with anyone, I see why the owners have decided to go this route. Any other person would have probably done the same thing.
I hate that it had to come to this for y'all Maxcherimie but believe me I understand as I have seen the many reasons for it the past year.

Thanks y'all! Ha yea Tony, it was a rough one but I'd much rather a day like that than a perfect one. Them big girls like it when the weather's nasty and I like it because I'm usually the only one out there haha.

Thanks! And as far as the Stripers I think it was more of a freak thing but we caught em by the ICW locks and for reds I would hang around the ponds and bayous that lead to the pond aince its still a little cool but not enough to push them all in the grassy ponds yet. Sac a lait were caught off of the west pearl as well.

Nice bro. We've been slamming them as well. I go to Nicholls so I normally fish that part of the bayou also out of my kayak. Been catching some hogs jigging an Ultraviolet Matrix Shad.

A comment titled: Empty Shell in response to a report titled: GIVING SPECIAL THANKS TO SOME GREAT CAPT.

No I do not work for them bro. As I stated before I go to Nicholls and work as a student biologist for the wildlife and fisheries. I also never said I had nothing to do with them. I fish with the guys you see in the videos as well as help with the videos. If it wasn't for me using the Matrix Shad and liking it so much in the first place, then I probably would have never net them. They have taught me a lot and the Matrix Shad has been my number one go to bait for the past two years now. Just as anyone else, I help promote the things I use the most because of how great they perform for me. It's like a family up there. I just consider my self part of that family of my friends and everyone up at the shop. And it all started with one bait. As much as I fish, you start realizing what things work fantastic for you and feel the need to meet the people who make them. I love to help people catch fish, and telling them about how great Matrix Shads and Vortex Shads are, are just another way to help them out fish in their boxes.
Thanks,

I work for no one my friend. I'm in school and a student biologist and fish everyday I'm not in school. I just tell people what I use and for the past couple years it's been Matrix Shads cuz it has more action, durability, and fish able anyway you can think of way more than any other bait. I tell people what works for me and this is it and my go to confidence baits for any type of fish out there. Fish with what your confidence in and learn what to use at the given day, time or place.

A comment titled: Aluminum in response to a report titled: aluminum boats

I've been in both types of boats my whole life and work in both types of boats just about everyday in the lake. I can tell you one thing, it all depends on the make. The name goes a long way. Well made aluminum boats by people such as crestliner, tims, and some of the newer xpress are fantastic and dryers, stronger, more durable and faster than most bay boats. Same goes for bay boats, boats such as pathfinder and rangers are better than most others but when it comes down to it, I'd rather be in a Tim's custom 16-20ft center console with a full v or semi v than any other boat. Boat keeps you dry, is fast, can get more shallow than most fiberglas boats and won't crack like a potato chip if it is hit, run aground, or just about any other accident. They're made like a tank. It will last forever. I don't care if you take good care of your Fiberglas bay boat, a well made aluminum boat will outlast it anyday. Takes just about the same in rough water. My theory is anyway, if your too scared to navigate any boat in rough water, then either don't go, or work on your driving skills more and gain some confidence or else you'll he hurt in any boat, fiberglas or not.
