Captain Kris Roberts, Chas Champagne and I went out to the Causeway this morning to do some more trolling. We got to the launch in Mandeville around 8 AM and we were fishing by 8:30. From the first ten minutes we had fish coming in the boat at a steady pace all morning. The bite was a good bit faster early in the morning but they never fully stopped biting. We had several double and triple hook ups again. We used 3/4 OZ rat-l-traps in various colors today but the real trick seemed to be using the matrix shad as the trailer instead of the B2 squid. We were threading the line through the matrix shad and tying a small treble hook on the end and hiding it in the belly of the bait. Most of our bites were on the trailer but still had a few on the traps. We fished from 8:30 until 3 PM and we finished up with 67 fat trout. Had to be close to a 2.5 LB average today so yall come take a trip while the trolling bite is still hot on the Causeway.

Captain Tristan Daire, Captain Kris Roberts and I made a trip out to the Causeway on Wednesday to do a little trolling and a little jigging. We arrived at our first stop around 7 AM and we had steady action all day until we had 75 beautiful trout that averaged 2.4 lbs. We were trolling 3/4 OZ. rattle traps in the crawfish color as well as pink and gold both colors seemed to be very effective. We had mulitple double and triple hookups as well as one quadruple hook up. The bigger trout came on the rattle traps but we managed to put about 25 trout in the boat jigging the lemonhead matrix shad off the bottom. The fishing is really starting to heat up and we will have an early spring this year so look for the fishing to really heat up in the next few weeks.

Your best bet as far as fly fishing equipment goes would be Uptown Angler in the French quarter. You can also check out old town fly shop in Slidell they carry the full line of TFO fly equipment.

I like to troll anywhere from 1.4 to 2.3 just depends on what they want that day.

Yea the multiple hook ups got to be pretty crazy. We got all 3 lines tangled up one time when one went off and then while we were trying to get the lines untangled from the first rat-l-trap the other two in the water caught fish and we had to hand line them in. It was a pretty memorable trip and I can't wait to do it again. Hopefully the wind will let us get out there this week.

I launch at mandeville harbor on Jackson Street it is a free public launch. No particular area really just find a stretch that doesnt have many boats and start from there. I like to start around 6 miles out and work my way farther out if needed. You should be able to catch them trolling for the next few weeks anytime you can get out there, just watch the wind because it can get nasty real quick out there. If your looking to throw plastics they aren't on the actual pillings yet they are still spread out in between the spans so you have to work for them. Any other questions feel free to ask or give me a call 985-285-4946
