i am looking to lease some area 200-500 acres for deer, small game and turkey hunting within 1.5 hrs of BTR. have been in East feliciana near st helena but deer hunting has not been good. hunting with sons and dad; anybody have any leads? thanks.
i think we did find one coyote on a camera recently.
the deer come to one of my feeders on a pipeline at night only but do not dare step out at any time during the day.
the other 2 feeders have hogs and the deer are steering clear.
what i am hearing here is:
1. its an off year; too many acorns for movement, hot, etc.
2. hogs and coyotes need to be thinned.
3. E. Feliciana off hwy 10 has a lower deer density to begin with than areas to the west and closer to the river.
It sounds like i can make an improvement by thinning the hogs and coyotes, then keep feeding through winter and try another year there VS move to an area where there are more deer. I am leaning towards the latter at this point. My dad has been in the stand 12 times and seen 0 deer.
we are on a lease in an area b/w clinton and greensburg off LA 10. we have cutover, woods and pine, along with creekbeds. we have some pics of deer at night but the numbers seem to be low. out of probably 80 times in the stand total(b/w 3 hunters we have seen deer about 10 times and harvested 3 total.
that seems low to me.
is that area not good?
is the density of deer lower there than in SW MS.
thinking of trying to move to another place with more deer......
also, there are a lot of hogs, fwiw.
