On my boat I have two diesel tanks that are gravity feed into the main tank. I am wanting to put a fuel water separator filter on both tanks but I'm worried that it will not allow it to gravity feed anymore. I am not looking to put a in line glass filter. Has anyone done this before what is the recommendation?

I am looking at buying a diesel generator for my boat but I am very limited on space so I am limited on what I can buy. Anything over 27' in length I can't use. Here are some I found that will fit. Fischer Panda, Mase, Mastervolt Wisper, Lombardini. I have found several bad reviews on Mase but very little on anything else. Lombardini is more affordiable than the other besides Mase. Any information that I can get would be greatly appreciated. If I should look at something else please let me know.

I am looking to get reviews on a company called Olmsted Shipyard Inc in Lake Charles. I would like some feed back from anybody that had a boat worked on there. I am curious if they do good work and repair jobs held up like it should? I can't find much out about this company and there estimate was a lot cheaper than the others I got which raised suspension?

Have a question about the recreational landing permits that LDWF has for anglers to fill out. I see that the only species of fish that you can report is Yellow Fin Tuna but do you need to have a print out of the permit on you incase you get stopped by LDWF regardless of what you are fishing?

Looking at getting a larger boat. Most of the boats I am looking at have inboard engines either gas or diesel. I am leaning more toward the diesel. I am wondering what kind of yearly maintenance besides oil and filter changes need to be done of these types of engines to keep them in good running condition? Also I fish out of Cypremort Point so I am also curious if anyone knows anyone around the area that services these engines especially the diesel engines. Yanmar is the name brand of the diesel engines that I am looking at. Any opinions are welcome I would like to know all the pro's and cons about this.

We had a jam up day of trout fishing Monday but for the crew that I brought it started out really bad and ended up really good. I received a call at 4:30 in the morning from the crew that their vehicle broke down and someone was coming to bring them another car but it would be 45 minutes or so before they got underway again so I knew we were going to have a really late start. We finally got under way and it was extremely calm all the way to our fishing grounds. We hopped around to a few different rigs and bam we found the fish and it was on. As fast as they could throw out they had a fish on and the trout were slinging in from all sides of the boat. We ended up with their 4 man limit of trout and left while the trout were turning back on but we were able to get the crew back at an earlier enough time for them to fix his truck and get back home. For those who are wondering if that is Gafftop Catfish in the picture yes it is. The guest wanted to keep those to make a Couvillion so we had Catfish to clean too.

Late Snapper report. I had a crew that I brought out for July the 4th and we headed out to the blue water. We ended up fishing in a different area than what I usually fish and oh boy that was a good decision. First rig we pulled up too it was on. We started catching some whopper Red Snapper most of the snapper we had went 10 + lbs biggest snapper of the year so far. We could have stayed all day catching those size snapper. They say the Red Snapper is over fished I would sure like to know where. We ended up moving to a few different rigs in the area and ended up landing four Lemon Fish and had a fifth one the line and broke it. We also ended up fishing for a little while for Mangrove Snapper was able to catch a few of those. We found a different rig that was holding some huge Mangrove biggest I seen yet so I can’t wait to go back out and see if we can get on those. Well the Snapper season has been extended until July 17 so if someone wants to make a blue water trip give me a call.

Well it’s been a few weeks since I been able to bring customers out fishing due to this wonderful weather we been having but late this week it clamed down nicely and we were able to catch some fish. Friday June 28 we brought Neil his son and daughter out Spec fishing. Weather was absolutely beautifully and could not have asked for calmer seas. We headed out about 6:00 Friday morning hit a few rigs out of the pass one of the first cast Neil’s daughter landed a Spec that went over 3 lbs. This girl has never been fishing offshore and she fought it like a champ and was pumped. They ended up catching a few more at that rig but no tide was moving and action was kind of slow for me so we decided to start rig hop pen. We went from rig to rig catching fish and ended up with a nice mess of fish and two beautifully reds. Father and son hooked up on the reds at the same time both took about 10 minutes to get in the boat. That was something to see both of them were pumped and ready for more action. Seen a few triple tails but just could not get them to bit that day. We had a slack tide all day long and it did not start moving again until late that evening. Only took one picture because I broke the lens on my camera would have shot more but could not.

June 29 we went after the big boys in the blue water again we headed due south to our fishing grounds. We left out about 6:00 in the morning again but the weather was a bit different than the previous day. We had the chop on and a stiff wind but we were still able to load the boat with fish. We ended up with a nice mess of Red Snapper and some Nice Mangrove Snapper and the King Mackerel had showed up in full force too. Could have caught those all day long if we wanted. We did not see the first Lemon Fish but it was hard to see anything when the seas are that choppy. Main thing is we came home with plenty of fish.

I had a partial cancellation for July 4th and have not filled the slots yet. I have had a lot of inquires but no one has committed I have four opening for July 4th if someone is interested in making a blue water trip as a walk-in let me know. You can email me, call or text I will respond either way.

Made another trip with Robert and his group from Shreveport Friday out of the Point and the weather were very questionable. We got a late start we didn’t under way until about 6:00 am and we had rain and lighting right out of South West Pass and to the east and west of us that I was watching very closely. We made is to the mouth of the gulf and we decided to stop and see what this weather was going to do. We sat in the pass for about 30 minutes and the rain had lightened up where we needed to go so we decided to head out and once we got a few miles into the Gulf it got pretty choppy from all the squalls. We traveled another 10 miles got into the squall it had light rain nothing too bad and it got calm like glass we traveled another 8 miles got on the outside of the squall sun was out and it was still extremely calm and beautifully. We went to a few of our rigs that produce good snapper and we were hooked up again with some big fish. In the mist of snapper fishing we were able to catch quite a few nice Lemon Fish only landed two of them but both of them were some nice size Lemon fish. Once we got our snapper we rigged up for mangrove it was getting late in the day but wanted to try to put more fish in the boat. We were about to land another eight Mangrove probable lost at least that many if not more by either popping the line or broke the hook. Those Mangroves give you an extremely good fight. I have two kids onboard with me they were brothers and neither of them had ever been fishing that far offshore both of them had a great time and I enjoyed watching them catch some nice fish. Robert and his crew come back with 250lbs of fish that we had to clean. I was glad to see that last fish on the cleaning table yesterday.

It looks like the weather this week will be unsettled this week. I have canceled my charter for today and will probable have to do the same for Tuesday and Wednesday due to the forecast that NOAA is giving.

Sorry about the late report from this past weekend but I just was able to get to a computer to post this. Opening day of Snapper season I brought out Clint Valentine and his crew and they had the time of their life. By 7:30 we were fishing and easily picked up a limited of snapper and decent size one. Once we ended up with our limit of Red Snapper we started on the Mangrove Snapper. The Mangrove Snapper were out in full force that day unfortunately it was a little rough so the crew had a time keeping their sea legs together in front of the boat. We ended up landing 11 Mangrove Snapper that day and fought a whole lot more that we lost. They ended up with a limit of Red Snapper, 11 Mangrove Snapper and few Lemon Fish. It was a pleasure fishing with Clint and his crew they were some real troopers and went home with a lot of fish.

June 2nd and 3rd I hade Wayne and his crew and those boys sure know how to have a good time. I have never been more entertained on a charter than what I was those two days. Saturday we started at a few of the closer rigs picked up a few fish and then headed further south we ended up about 75 miles out of South West Pass in some beautifully water and we found some whopper fish after a few hours of fishing we started back north and hit our rigs that hold the Mangrove Snapper were able to pick up a mess of those and a really nice Ling that went 40+LBS. Sunday morning we were back at it in full force again. We ended up going to a few different rigs and hammered some really nice fish again. In the two days Wayne and his crew fished with us they ended up 2 limits or Red Snapper about 20 Mangrove Snapper and one really nice Ling these guys went home with some serious meat.

I still have days open in June and July so anyone wants to get in on a good trip give me a call. Also if anyone like to fish and can not get a group together and wants to be a walk-on let me know I can probable get you in on a trip.
