Anyone have an opinion on TC Pro Hunters? Hows the accuracy? Dependable? Most accurate calibers?

July 06, 2011 at 11:56am

Beware! I brought my boat in to Southern Outdoors in Thibodaux to have my live well pumps and control valves changed and had the boards on my trailer changed. After spending over $700, I got my boat home and was cleaning it up when I noticed several scratches in my gel coat that werent there before. Then noticed the top of my motor had 3 or 4 gouges in the paint. The motor did not have a scratch on it. They agreed to fix the scratches but the attitude was that I was having them fix things that were there before the repairs were done.... they werent. Now, after a few fishing trips, my automatic bilge pump kicks on every 10 or 15 minutes and pumps water for 10 seconds or so, which was not happening before. Apparently it has something to do with the pumps they installed or the plumbing for the live wells. When they changed the control valves for the livewells, they didnt change the 'open/close' control switches themselves but changed the cables and valves. The old controls were stripped and was the primary reason to change them in the first place. Even the carpet job on the trailer boards is poor. I had to get some stainless staples and staple it down in several spots. They told me my boat would be ready in a week.... 6 weeks later I picked it up. They WILL NOT return your calls. I went there after a month to get my boat because they wouldnt return my calls on the status of the repairs but the owner assured me that it was staying in the shop and was not out in the weather (Skeeter 22i). Then, they kept it a month to fix the scratches after the fact. Also, the entire boat has overspray of some kind all over it. I had replaced the glove box just before it brought it there and it is covered with overspray so there is no doubt that this happened there. Anyway.... I could go on with this but just wanted to pass on that if you have a nice boat and you care what it looks like, you might want to consider bringing it somewhere else for repair.

Bobby Hebert is suppose to walk from the Dome to the Oceana Grill in the quarter Sunday in a dress in memory of Buddy D. I heard on WWL that this thing is getting huge with THOUSANDS of guys planning to show up in dresses to make the walk with him. Not sure of the exact timing but I'd bet that a lot of us on LS would be up for that! Bring a soft chest / purse for your fluids... you'll want to stay hydrated!!

NO GUN - NO PROBLEM!!

July 02, 2009 at 2:37pm

Anybody having any luck with the new plastic saltwater color thats out - New Moon - Deadly Dudley, Opening Night - Assassin & Blue Steel - H&H Cocahoe? All are similar with a light blue iridescent back and clear glitter bottom. I caught a few fish on the H&H but dipped the tail in chartreuse.

June 28, 2009 at 6:46pm

Last year I started running through Tambour Bay rather than slowing down for the old Texaco camp in Cocodrie. Last week one of the charter guys told us not to run through there anymore because of debris blown in from Gustav. Has anyone hit anything there since the storm? I ran across it four times before I was told this and didn't hit anything but it was always with an incoming tide. ??

Does anyone know anything about the boat that is capsized in 70 mile canal off the ICW?? It looks like its been there for a while with algae starting to grow on the hull.

Does anyone run a Pro Hi Jacker manual jack plate? If so, any opinions?

April 20, 2007 at 9:14am

I am going to mount a depth finder on the front deck on my boat, what is the easiest/best way to do it? I have seen people route the transducer cable down the shaft of the trolling motor, mount it up towards the bow in the bottom of the boat and run it to the transom. It seems like the easiest would be to clamp it on the trolling motor but fishing Toledo Bend and other stumpy lakes as well as the gulf, it seems like it could get knocked off by stumps or oyster beds. Has anyone had any problems with this? I'd like that set up as it give you accurate water temps as well which you can't get with the transducer in the hull. As for mounting it in the hull towards the transom, I've heard of a putty like compound that you mix and stick to the bottom of the boat and set the transducer in that works well.... anyone familiar with this??

March 15, 2007 at 12:41pm

I was in Orange Grove the other day and they've moved a drilling rig in to the right of the main canal, near the Cox Ditch. The water from the ICW to the back and going West towards Antill Canal in completly unfishable with the tugs and crewboats running back and forth. The water was so muddy that I seriously thought that it may clog the intake on my motor. The oyxgen depleted muddy water is also causing a fish kill with perch, catfish, sac-a-lait and bass floating all over the canal leading to the ditch. They just moved the rig in so it'll probably be there for awhile...even after its gone, its going to take a while for Orange Grove to bounce back.

Does anyone know of an authorized Minnkota repair shop in the Houma/New Orleans area other than Rays? I've been to Rays, dont want to do that again. He kept my motor for 11 weeks (supposed to be 4 weeks), I've been fishing 3 times since and now my motor won't run at all not to mention that when I got it back, my $900 motor looked like it had been beaten with a hammer from the head cover to the foot. Appartnely he is the type of person that is only concerned with getting the prop to spin so beware, if you keep your equipment up, your motor will not look the same when you pick it up as it did when you dropped it off. I didn't even think it was my motor when I picked it up, came home and checked my paperwork for the serial nos. Anyway, this is a new motor and the work is under warrenty so, I have to find an authorized repair center.

I'm sure some of you have heard about the guy that was killed in a mud boat accident this past Wednesday in Kraemer while teal hunting. I knew this guy very well and there was no horse play or drinking involved, just a tragic accident. Be careful guys, if it can happen to this guy, it can happen to any of us at any time.

A comment titled: not in the same bag in response to a report titled: Soft plastic storage???

No, I keep all plastics in the bag they come in, whether Culprit, Zoom, Net Bait, etc... I put all of the individual bags, by bait type, in one gallon ziploc bag. All crawfish, all worms, all frogs... This way I can pull out one particular bag then fish out the color of that bait I want to throw.

A comment titled: Ziploc in response to a report titled: Soft plastic storage???

JM - I probably have 40 pounds of plastics and had the same problem. What I ended up doing was seperating my worms, crawfish, flukes, brush hogs, frogs, etc... and putting them in seperate gallon size Ziploc bags.... color doesnt matter. I bought a vinyl Bass Pro shops extreme boat bag and put everything in there including extra weights, hooks, carolina rigging stuff, etc... This way, if you want to fish frogs, you pull out that one bag and all of your frogs are in there. In my main tackle box's side pockets, I have the plastics I use more than others.... probably 20 packs of worms, brush hogs, crawfish and frogs and a small Plano box with weights, hooks, glass beads, etc... This way if I go with a bud, I just need to grab my big box but if I am fishing a tournament or fishing out of my boat, I have my BPS bag with me that has everything else in it. Works for me!!

A comment titled: H&R in response to a report titled: 45/70 sighted in

BB, Tuff is right. Its an H&R Buffalo classic 45/70 with a 32' barrel. I shot that off a bench / sandbag at the range. The first shot was 3' high, the second 2.5' and the third at 1.5', where I wanted it. After the second shot without adjusting my scope, I thought I missed the target when I walked downrange and found only one hole at 1.5' so I put a piece of tape over the hole and shot again.... through the tape. I was impressed! Tuff, I agree with the recoil, it kills on BOTH ends!! Here is something I did before I even pulled the trigger. I read that the recoil would give you whiplash so I took the butt plate off and filled the hole in the stock with #6 lead shot and then stuffed cleaning patches in the very top of the hole until they stuck out a little then screwed the butt plate back on. The patches prevent the BB's from moving around and I figure I added at least 2 lbs to the gun, maybe more. What it did do was balance the rifle. With the 2-3 lbs of shot in the stock and the heavy 32' barrel up front, it now has a really good feel to it but is really heavy - which is a good thing!!

A comment titled: have em both in response to a report titled: Opinion on Which Reel

I have 2 Curado's and 3 Citica's - all new. If you close your eyes and grab one you cannot tell the difference in the two. I read and was told that the Citica is actually the old Curado, back when they sold for ~$120 and the new Curado is just slightly upgraded. Both are great reels and will last a long time.

I remember years ago, when he first put the ribbon around the parking lot to designate the rows that everyone could park on. He went out there rasing cane with some guy who's hood went under the ribbon and that dude cleaned his clock. I saw him not long after and he had a black/purple/green/yellow eye among other things. I was looking to see if the ribbon had become a tail. I guess you can be like tht when you're pretty much the only game in town!

A comment titled: SERIOUSLY DELUSIONAL? in response to a report titled: REGGIE BUSH

First of all, no one is delusional - we're talking about Saints football - we're Magic Carpet Riders. Secondly, I've never seen Benson make a tackle or throw a pass so you must mean that he won't spend the money?? We have the #1 ranked offense in the league for 2 or the last 3 years and made it to the NFC championship game. Did Tom tell them to STAND DOWN in Chicago? Its the owners fault when they won't pay for talent. Thats not the case here. On DECOY'S - you probably have a decoy that just sits still where ever you stick him in the ground. If you went out and bought yourself one that grunts, runs out and humps the does, makes scraps, rubs and keeps all the bucks really close to your stand, you'd prolly have to pay more than $150 -

A comment titled: Decoy in response to a report titled: REGGIE BUSH

Reggie Bush is the best decoy in the NFL. Believe me, when he steps on the field, the opposing defense and defensive coaches are all watching where he lines up. This freezes linebackers and some DB's - the have to stay home because they know that he he gets the ball and gets behind them, its over! He absolutely makes the offense better because of his potential. Think back to when the Lions traded for Swilling..... they thought the had won the NFL lottery but after a couple of years, they realized they had an average linebacker. He was great as a Saint because Ricky Jackson was even greater and had to be double teamed which left Swilling some wiggle room. Same with Bush - The offense would still be great but they would lose some of their spark without Bush because of the threat.

A comment titled: Benelli in response to a report titled: shotgun

You can probably find a Benelli SBE for around $1000 or less in great shape. I had 3 Berettas, Benelli and a Browning Gold - all are gone except the Benelli. IMO its the best of the best. You may be able to find a SBEII for around that price. I or II, doesnt matter, they are both great guns.

A comment titled: rig locations in response to a report titled: bayou black area

There are several rig locations cut into that canal that were probably cut by oil companies. I would be willing to bet that the canal was dug from the ICY to the point of the last keyway that is cut and the crawfords probably dug the canal from the end of the exsisting canal to the back of their property. If this is true, it seems like the front of the canal closest to the ICW would be public. I am also willing to be that the Crawfords do not own the land all the way to the ICW from Hwy 90. If they did..........gates are CHEAP.... would have been there a long freggin time ago.

A comment titled: where? in response to a report titled: bayou black area

I have never ran into him. Met his dad about 30 years ago while duck hunting around Turtle Bayou. Where does he hang out? Me and several friends fish Orange Grove and have never seen him. How can he run you out of canals that are not posted if you aren't on the bank? Never heard of that. Does he have a badge? I know his ole man was just an oversee'er and thought he owned the parish.

A comment titled: Rays in response to a report titled: rays repair service

I don't want to hammer Ray's but I brought him a motor that was under warranty and it took 11 weeks to get it back. I take very good care of my equipment and this motor was under a year old....... when I picked it up I told him that it was the wrong motor. The cover was faded (yellow) and scratched up and it just looked like it had been beat with a hammer - then I noticed the PILE leaning against the corner of the room where there must have been 50 motors just randomly stacked one on top the other. Anyway...... 11 weeks and he told me that it was the main bolt under the cover that had backed off.... took all of 5 minutes to fix (if you pull the cover off yourself - warranty is void). GOOD LUCK!! If you "view reports" by me, you'll find the post from 2007.

Caught a limit in Orange Grove Sunday morning...... 11 total and turned back 3 fish in the 3# range. Kept a few tight eyes for the grease!
