Wanted to fish the Bienvenue area and also have easy range to fish many other places so decided to give Southshore Marina a try. Instead of driving all the way to Chalmette we just took I-10 to Slidell, cross the lake then onto HWY. 11 to Chef Mentur HWY. From the foot of the 1-10 Bridge to the marina took us 22 minutes pulling a 22' boat.
Very impressive coming from Baton Rouge....
Being a boat owner myself and often the Capt. on my boat with passengers what do you as the Capt. do to make sure that you can get back safely to harbor?
Bug spray,Sun block,Tarps?
I mean, sure it's nice to have someone see you and tow you in as I've done many times and had done for me once but do you as a Capt. actually count on it?
Coast Guard and local police will....
For those of us that knew him and loved him I found this little video of him doing what he loved best,Helping kids learn how to fish.
It brings back some great memories of times spent with him down at the Lodge.
Still miss the ole fella.
Figured some of you might want to see him and hear his voice again.
There's a bunch of newcomers who aren't accustomed to the friendly ribbing we give each other here. They take posts the wrong way and threaten to never post again because they think people are serious about the criticisms.
It's just not like that on the internet. Nothing seems as it is. People use the forums of many websites to role play and let off a little steam. Nobody hates anyone here.....
I wanted to take a minute to direct your attention to a fellow LA Sportsman who needs to find good home for his two yellow Labs due to unfortunate circumstances.
I spoke with the guy earlier and he is legit. He even wants to help with purchasing any items necessary to guarantee them a good....
Not really sure abut the legitimacy of this guys ad but figure if anyone actually knew about fishing gear they would know a little bit about the model numbers and manufacturers of the gear they are trying to sell.
Just a heads up in case anyone has had their gear stolen recently.
It's that time of year.Big Sacalait starting to move from open bodies of water into canals and dead ends.
Sacalait are pretty much the only freshwater fish I will chase after.
Love to load the baitwell with shiners and move to light tackle.
Been hearing some good reports coming out of Bayou Corne and the canals off Verret.
Anyone else been getting some good catches?
Jake caught this #3 spec in Lake Borgne Saturday after waiting out major t-storms with ButchR,Me and Skeeterkiller for 1 1/2 hours.
Day turned beautiful after those storms washed the sky clean and the specs were waiting for our live shrimp.
Friday Butch and I set off from Dockside a little late because of an erronous wind forecast for some trout fishing on the Trestles.
There were a bunch of boats out there and got to spend some time among some serious Lake Pontchartrain fishermen.
Capt. Dudley,Capt. Dumas,& Capt. Schlumbrecht were beating that bridge up and it was good to talk with them back at the Dock.
It was a beautiful....
Don't usually get down this way but tomorrow ButchR and I are gonna head down this way.
My plans are to put in at Grand Bayou Blue marina and head down to the Point Au Chens/sulphur mine area but been hearing reports come from the Cocodrie/Montegut area.
Loaded up my 11 year old and met up with Nightfisher in Ponchatoula.
Made the short ride to Dockside bait and Tackle and loaded up on some serious huge (about 16 count) shrimp for the kid to use and got an earful from Terry Googin who was already cleaning fish about the influx of flounder in the lake and boy he wasn't kidding.
First stop was the trestles and Jake....
