We had a great time this morning. I was a little weary that the cooler early morning weather might slow the bass down a bit. We got out to the spot about 9:00 and fished until 12:00.
I went through 3 packs of wacky worms today. The bass were aggressive from the very get go. I felt very few nibbles, it was mostly GULP!
We were on the normal pattern for this time of year, pounding.... Read More
Me and a buddy hit chicot this afternoon. We actually started fishing around lunch. I wanted to try a completely new area, one that I had been scoping, that looked really good for Sac-a-lait..........Wrong! We fished about 5 hours through a series of banks. Fished minnows, worms and jigs at varied depths and had a few bass and one sac-a-lait to show for it. That's Chicot though.
We had a good trip to Larto Thursday thru Saturday. We stayed at good ol' Uncle Bud's RV Park. I can't say enough good things about that place.
I got there there on Thursday and fished for a few hours but didn't find but one stud sac-a-lait. I caught him about 2 foot behind a cypress tree. I should've figured it out then but didn't. Me and a buddy burnt the next morning slugging it out.... Read More
We did a good bit of hunting this year. We didn't really get on the ducks or geese that great. We had some good hunts though. These are some of the best shots of the hunting season.
We had a good hunt with him yesterday. About 20 geese for 9 people.
I have a buddy that has been helping David out (semi-guiding) and I got an invite through my buddy to help out as well. I leaped at the opportunity.
I had heard a lot of bad things on the internet about Smith's service, but been hearing pretty good things from my buddy. They killed about 60 last weekend in the.... Read More
When I go specklebelly hunting on cold mornings (freezing and below) it is extremely difficult for me to keep my lips sealed on the call. When I exhale into the call air escapes in between the edge of my lips and the outside of the call....It ends up just being a spitting noise that comes out of the call...My mouth gets numb and caput on the calling. It is.... Read More
Of course I had a good time. It took a long time getting here, but alas.
We got in on new lease around Holly Beach this year that we were real excited to try. The ponds don't have any food, but they are in a good area with a good flight way.
I had the brilliant idea to camp out in the marsh the whole weekend. You can see how that went as I am typing from my home computer right now..... Read More
Had an interesting trip to White Lake last Friday. The target was Reds, Flounder, specks, maybe even a blue cat or two. It was cool because there wasn’t but one or two boats at the boat launch. I wonder if it is always like that? The weatherman predicted a southwest wind about 10, so I figured that was doable going into or coming back with the swell. It’s a big Lake.
We had another bang em up trip on Friday for Reds. My biceps and shoulders are still sore from the nearly non-stop casting, hooking, fighting, unhooking that took place.
We decided to fish the Fishing for memories fishing rodeo again this year. Knowing that we have a number of spots that produce big reds we thought we could place at minimum. I thought I had it last year with about 14.8.... Read More
We made it to our annual Toledo Bend trip this year for June 3rd-6th. We stayed at South Toledo Bend State park and it was a blast! Last year we weren't too successful on the fish, so I decided to mix it up this year with Noodles. I have never tried them, so decided to give it a go. I really wanted to stock the freezer with meat, and I knew the guided fishing trip for Sac-a-lait wouldn't.... Read More
We hit the Brush piles with Living the dream guide service again this year. We had a good time. We met a few of the bassmasters pre fishing the big tournament in a few days at the boat launch. One of them was named Johnathon Van Dam. I think he said he was from Michigan. He's got big shoes to fill if he is related to Kevin.
Anyhow, we had a good trip. Kept 98 Sac-a-lait, some barfish.... Read More
I watched this show for about 2.5 hours the other night on A&E. It really sucked me in. I know a lot of the scenes are staged, but it really had me entertained.
Some random thoughts:
I think Uncle Si and Jase are my favorite characters. Si has some good sayings, funny with words. Jase is really funny. Guy knows how to get at his brother.
They seem to be hell bent on being everything.... Read More
Me and a buddy made a Good Friday trip out to the Basin. I had another buddy say that they were hitting them pretty good. Why not!
Got out to the spot and the very first cast was a bream. Nice little bluegill, but a little small. About 30 foot down the bank we hit a hole and started workin on em. The boats starting working past us though. Boats, Boats and more boats. Some came by on.... Read More
We flipped the canoe into a silted over cut that runs about 1/4 mile wide and one mile long yesterday. The water is clear and full of grass. There are a few fish in there as well. We had a fun day, came out with about 6 specks, 7 sheepshead, and 3 reds.
We figured out the sheepshead at the end of the trip. They were all over these old mooring poles. We would pull up to the pole stick.... Read More
My wife and I made a trip to Saline-Larto on March 29-31. We really had a good time. We stayed at Uncle Bud's Cabins on Larto. The accommodations were really nice. The cabins were walking distance from the boat slips and the fishing pier.
We went for the Crappie as I heard this place was world class. There was no discernible pattern for them, as we caught them here and there. Most.... Read More
After reading a few articles on the Sportsman I can't stand it anymore. My love for Sac-a-lait fishing has grown and I understand this place produces. We are staying at Uncle Buds on the 29th and 30 of March. I was hoping some of the Anglers on here could give me some general knowledge about the Lake.
Questions:
I'm not looking for specific spots, just general trends. I.... Read More
I made a trip to my little honey hole on Mardi Gras. An overflow lake off of the Mermentau. About 10 acres. From the get go the bass were on the pattern I wanted to feed; Wacky Worm over the beds! I caught 40 fish, but the keeper ratio was 5:1. What a spectacular day! At one point it was 4 cast in a row with 4 fish, all about 12 inches. A tad too small. That was how the day went though,.... I thought this was interesting and wanted to share:
The following email was forwarded to me by a friend...which proves.... You never know what’s going to fall out of the sky .....
Comal River (New Braunfels) Texas.
This has to be the weirdest thing that ever floated past me in the river...A highly pissed off chicken snake wound tightly around a struggling falcon's neck.
We have been having extremely lackluster hunting lately, so It was a nice change of pace to have some good hunts.
Started out Thursday with Cajunsim in Morse. We killed 5 and every goose acted like they wanted to work! Awesome to see those 6 lb. birds try to lose altitude....
Friday was a trip to around the White Lake area. Even though we were close to a body it was nearly impossible.... Read More
