Hunted our marsh near Grand Chenier at Paulo's blind aka 'Spotted Ape' blind with Doug and Stephen. Not bad for a bluebird morning. 6 ducks: 5 pintails and 1 grey duck. We didn't see 50 ducks close. Fortunately 25 of them were in the bunch of pintails that I called into and the decoys. Looked like a Duck Commander video as we dropped 5 out of the bunch.
Hunted our marsh near Grand Chenier in the 'Spotted Ape' blind this morning with Rob and Dennis. Bluebird sky with no wind. Hunting was slow. Killed 3: 1 pintail; 1 gw teal; 1 smiling shoveler. We probably didn't see 50 ducks total. Come on winds and clouds.
Made our first hunt in the 'spotted ape blind' this morning. Good hunt but poor shooting. Rob and me. 6 total but should have limited. 1 gw teal; 1 grey duck; 3 scaup; and 1 smiling shoveler.
Had something VERY weird happen this morning. Had a bunch of 25-30 ducks come in and decoy perfectly. Mixture of gw teal; shovelers; and scaup.??? Shocked me so bad I couldn't shoot straight. Anybody.... Read More
Ducks have scattered or left at our marsh in Grand Chenier. Travis and Hunter killed 1 gw teal this morning. Very few ducks moving around. The few ducks seen were all flying very high.
Hopefully more ducks are on the way. We're gonna let our blind rest tomorrow.
Less water today and less mosquitoes in our marsh at Grand Chenier. Mark, Dennis, and Travis killed 14: 8 gw teal; 2 gray ducks; and 4 smiling shovelers. Shooting is still slow but steady.
Opening day at Grand Chenier was average at best. Water levels are still low and the ducks are still not abundant in our marsh. Hunted with Mark, Dennis, and Travis. Total of 14: 8 gw teal; 1 bw teal; 2 pintails; and 3 Hollywood mallards.
Anybody else have any reports from Grand Chenier or SW LA?
Teal at our marsh near Grand Chenier have been spotty since opening day. Last Thursday we killed our 4 man limit and thought things were shaping up for a good weekend. But Friday = 1; Saturday = 2; Sunday = 3. All the birds act like local well educated birds. We have not seen an influx of new birds so far this teal season.
Is anybody else in the marsh having these inconsistant hunts? Is.... Read More
Opening Day in the marsh was a good day but not as fast and furious as expected. I was blessed to be able to have a good hunt with my son Haydn, my best friend Mark, and another good friend Tom. Lucy was excited when we put her in the truck.
The large flocks of birds that were seen mid-week were gone.
It was HOT with no wind. Did mention it was HOT. We were fortunate and still managed to.... Read More
We drove down to the lease in Grand Chenier and put out the decoys yesterday afternoon after church. We saw a few teal and mottled ducks but nothing to get really excited about. I hope ya'll stir them up Saturday and send some our way.
