MAPS AND HOW TO FOR A LOWRANCE MARK 4
~ Captain Paul's response to: ~ Danos Skeeter ~
The Lowrance Mark 4 comes with a base map and a slot for a memory card that can accept supplemental mapping programs.
I believe that the Mark 4 can accommodate MICRO SD Memory cards, but to be sure contact the Lowrance Support section at 800- 324-1356 to be sure.
The Lowrance web site for the Mark 4 indicates that the unit can use
Navionics® Gold and Premium charting upgrades through the built-in, waterproof microSD card slot.
That means that you MUST PURCHASE the proper Navionics card that has the area maps you want. Check out the Navionics site at
http://store-mirror.navionics.com/charts/1XG
The Gold mapping software Gold # 1XG has marine type charts that cover most of the US coastline. It lists for about $200. However, before plunking down that amount of money for the mapping software, visit a stocking Lowrance ~ Navionics dealer and actually view the mapping software.
Once you have the program you want on the memory card, you simply plug the card into the appropriate card slot on your GPS unit and the unit will read the maps.
Some units require that you use the menu feature to actually access and read the card after it is in the unit. This is a relatively simple procedure that is covered in your owners manual on pages 4, 5,6 and 7.
