Bass Fishing in Toledo Bend in Central Louisiana
FISHING REPORTS/BASS: The warmer days/nights brought the lake water temperature up several degrees which scattered the bass to some degree. However, the past few days have been mostly cloudy which has made fishing better, especially in depths of 2-10'. Top water patterns have been good with a stop n go presentation. If there is wind present creating a ripple on the surface, I like to.... Read More

CRAPPIE: Those anglers with deep, baited brush tops are the ones who continue to catch white perch with any regularity. One of the better crappie anglers I know has had to work a little harder but is still cleaning crappie every trip. Live shiners on light line (Berkley Vanish 4-6 lb test) is giving best results.
STRIPERS: A few schools have come up where main feeder creeks connect with.... Read More

Freshwater Fishing in Toledo Bend in Central Louisiana
Hello, Anglers! In order for our area lakes and reservoirs to continue be great fishing holes, each one of us must do our part. Encouraging trends from both anglers and state fishing departments are reasons to be optimistic about the future. Catch and Release (I'm basically talking about the specie of bass) is becoming more of a norm on local lakes during the past five years. Catch and.... Read More

CRAPPIE: Reports show white perch coming out of 20-30' of water with baited holes/brush being the most consistant for quality crappie.
Both jigs, shiners or a combination of both are catching fish. I am also catching a few crappie with a jigging spoon while fishing for l.m. bass and yellow bass.
STRIPER/YELLOW BASS: Large numbers of yellows are with schools of shad in the mouths of.... Read More

Bass Fishing in Toledo Bend in Central Louisiana
FISHING REPORTS/BASS: Fishing has been good-to-excellent...even outstanding as far as numbers of fish. Fishing pressure remains low which also adds to the enjoyment. Before the last front, bass were very active along shallow flats and ridges and drains/ditches. Scattered grass areas also hold fish...lots of fish. The hard part is to find shallow grass which is 'at a premium' with.... Read More

Freshwater Fishing in Toledo Bend in Central Louisiana
Hello, Anglers. Fall patterns can be some of the most consistant fishing of the entire year as cold fronts are usually mild and do not have a significant impact on the fishery. As a matter of fact, cold fronts in the fall can, at times, even improve fishing conditions as the cooler air brings down the water surface temperature which can increase fish feeding activity. Some of my best days.... Read More

CRAPPIE: Some of the crappie have moved deeper following the bait fish as I have been catching several while fishing for bass in 25-40' on a jigging spoon. Other anglers are still having success on baited holes in 20-25' with live shiners. This pattern is best usually early morning/late afternoon.
STRIPERS/YELLOW BASS: Several species are ganging up on the migration of baitfish (shad).... Read More

FISHING REPORTS/BASS: Currently, there are several patterns that are catching fish. Shallow crankbaits such as Frenzy Mid-Diver, Bandit 300 Series and Model A Bomber are working on windy points and during low light conditions. Shad colors are best such as Frenzy's Tennessee Shad. Spinnerbaits, too, are catching fish on windy points with grass present. Stanley's double-bladed willowleaf.... Read More

Freshwater Fishing in Toledo Bend in Central Louisiana
Hello, Anglers. I have had a blast the past few days on The Bend. The weather has been beautiful and the fish have been hungry. I have had no problems navgating the lake but have had to use extreme caution 100% of the time. Numerous marker bouys were blown out of position during the storm and most have not been corrected. In addition, the storm broke up large numbers of logs/trees and.... Read More

WHITE PERCH: Crappie continue to bite and have actually picked up a bit as far as quality fish. Live shiners fished on light line (4-6 lb test) have produced the best. To keep from having to rig up the whole thing when breaking off on brush when using light line, use 10-12 lb line on main line and attach a ball bearing swivel with sinker above it then attach 4-6 lb leader (2 ft') to the.... Read More

FISHING REPORTS/BASS: Fishing patterns have not changed much the past 3-4 weeks but will undergo changes as the first true cold front of the season arrives this weekend........BRING IT ON!!! It has been 'back to basics' for me recently as crankbaits, TX/Carolina rigs and top water patterns have done the job. In crankbaits the choices have been Berkley's Frenzy Deep Diver (no longer in.... Read More

JOE JOSLIN, TOLEDO BEND FIELD REPORTER

LAKE CONDITIONS: The rains of Rita were greatly over estimated in most areas and ranged from 4-8 inches according to the reports that I saw and heard. The dry conditions prior to the storm soaked up much of the rain and run-off was minimal. This caused our local lakes to go basically unchanged as Toledo went from 162.9' before the storm to 163.6'.... Read More

YELLOW BASS: There are lots of yellow bass in and along the bends of major creeks and also along the river. Spoons and tail spinners work on these fish. I have a hard time getting them to hit up top so I fish, most of the time, for these little panfish using a vertical presentation. Most of my yellow bass are caught suspended about 15-20' from the surface. My favorite way to clean these.... Read More

FISHING REPORTS/BASS: At times recently, top water has been the way to go...especially the first hour of the day. I love both poppers and walkers. You probably know.......my favorite poppers are Berkley Frenzy Poppers, Pop Rs, Yellow Magic and Chug Bug. Favorite Walkers (walking topwater baits) include Frenzy Walker, Tsunami and Zara Spook. Walking baits are stick baits that are 'walked'.... Read More

Tournaments Fishing in Toledo Bend in Central Louisiana
Hello, Anglers. Toledo continues to shrink and launch sites are getting harder to find. I will do some leg work and in next weeks column will try to have a list of launching ramps that are still accessible. Check out the LAKE CONDITIONS section of this column to see the latest in lake levels and other lake info.
LAUNCH SITES: If you used a particular launch site in the last 7-10 days on.... Read More
