  • Night Fish!
  • New Boat on the Way!
The spring trout have arrived in the lake! On Monday evening I decided to give my back pier in the Lake (Rats Nest Road) a try so I went to Dockside and picked up some live shrimp. I went out about 6:00 p.m. and started fishing the live shrimp on a Carolina rig. The trout immediately started to bite on almost every cast! The third fish I caught was a 3 pounder! Most were 13'-15' with a few.... Read More

  • Under the Lights!
  • New Boat On The Way!
The lake is beginning to spring to life the last few days with rising water temperatures. I have noticed much more activity around my pier on Lake Pontchartrain, so I decided to crank up the lights last night for the first time this year. I was glad I did! Using dead bait Carolina rigged I was able to catch three drum, one nice keeper trout and three throwback trout in about an hour last night. .... Read More

I made a quick scouting trip this morning to the Rigolets. I got a late start and picked up 25 live shrimp at the boat launch. I fished in one area the whole morning. The pattern was finding moving water at the mouths of bayous emptying into lagoons on the rising tide. The trout were on the bottom in 6' to 10' of water. I was using a Carolina rig with a quarter ounce sliding sinker. I was.... Read More

  • Early Season Specks!
On Saturday I took a scouting trip with a friend trying to locate some early season specks. The wind was 15 mph out of the east, so we opted to fish some canals, bayous and protected marsh areas near the Rigolets. We started in 10 - 15 feet of water thinking that the fish would be deep with the water temps in the high 50's. After about a half hour without a bite, we moved a little shallower up.... Read More

Opinions & Responses in Lake Pontchartrain / Northshore in Southeast Louisiana
Does anyone have any experience with the 24ft. Sea Fox Viper bay boat being sold at Boat Stuff. I am considering purchasing the boat but cannot find much information on line about the boat. If anyone has any information it would be appreciated. I can be reached at (504) 458-8737 or email me. Thanks.

With the warm winter we are having, I am expecting an early spring run on trout. Once the water temps reach 60 the trout bite should start in lake on the bridges. One of the best early season techniques is trolling. Trolling success usually begins at the Causeway on some of the warmer sunny days in February and soon after the bridges on the eastern end start producing. I am ready for trolling.... Read More

Waterfowl Hunting in Caernarvon in Southeast Louisiana
After nearly a month of low tides, the water has returned and the ducks are making their way back to the shallow broken marsh areas that we were hunting during the first split. Today was not a home run, but the action was better than it has been. A late morning flight of teal mixed with some mottled ducks and spoonbills made for a late season exciting hunt. After the hunt, we did some.... Read More

The ducks are on their way! We are starting to see more and more ducks each day on our leases in the Caernarvon and Reggio area. The marsh is in great shape and it should be a great season. If you are looking for a place to hunt I have a membership open in my duck hunting club. Please check out the classified ads for more details or email me at schimelcpa@aol.com

Windy Day in Delacroix

Today I took out Mark Hartman and some of his clients from the Baton Rouge area. They stayed overnight at Delacro Joes the night before and were eager to go in the morning. The only problem was a stiff southeast wind. We began around Four Horse Lake and were catching a few, but they were on the small side. So we headed a little closer to the outside and found some.... Read More

  • Good Friday Gobbler
Finally got him! After chasing turkeys for six hunts and missing one last week, I was finally able to take a nice bird on Good Friday. The bird weighted 16 lbs. had a 9 1/2 inch beard and 1" spurs. This was a mature bird for the piney woods around Folsom. After hearing him gobble all morning, a made a move closer to him at about 7:45 and put out a decoy in front of me in a clearcut with.... Read More

LATE LIMITS! Sometimes it takes a while to get-em! We started out early Saturday morning at an island that I had been doing well all season on big trout. Everything looked good but the fish were not there. With only two trout after a half-hour, we headed to an area in western Blank Bay and found an “every cast” bite of small fish and fooled around with them for a while putting about 20.... Read More

IT DOESN’T GET MUCH BETTER! The fishing right now is awesome in Black Bay and Breton Sound. We have been catching huge trout, reds, drum! On Friday I had the owner of Don’s Seafood out with his lovely wife. They wanted to get in a few hours of fishing before getting back to work and wanted some big trout that we have been catching. I headed to the spot that I have been catching them on a.... Read More

  • BOX SHOT - TWO MAN LIMIT
The fishing has been nothing short of outstanding the past few days. Today was typical. We filled the bait well up with live croakers and headed outside. Our fist stop was a small wellhead in the sound and as soon as the lines hit the water – IT WAS ON – EVERY CAST ACTION! on 14”-16” inch trout. We started off with croakers Carolina rigged and quickly switched over to plastic. Speculizers.... Read More

SCOUTING REPORT – DELACRIOX/HOPEDALE – IT’S ALMOST TIME!

I have not been fishing much during the past weeks due to the wind. My customers like to fish for big trout outside and that has not been happening with the wind, so I have rescheduled most of them. With some time on my hands, I spent the last two days preparing and scouting for my upcoming charters. On Thursday, I hit the east side.... Read More

NUMBER TWO! A TURKEY SEASON TO REMEMBER

I concluded an unbelievable turkey season this morning scoring on my second gobbler in six hunts. This is the first season in about 14 years that I turkey hunted. I recently leased a small tract of land in the Folsom area for deer hunting, close to home. While looking at the property I saw a turkey and noticed quite a few tracks and heard one.... Read More

After hunting this gobbler for 4 days, I finally got him this morning at 7:04 a.m. I have seen him for three of the four hunts I made, but was never able to score. I would move he would move. I would call he would gobble but never come in. Finally everything came together this morning. I went back to where I saw him yesterday and built a good ground blind. I put out two decoys. Early I.... Read More

Deer Hunting in Lake Pontchartrain / Northshore in Southeast Louisiana
I am looking at a deer lease a few miles north of Folsom and looking for input from hunters that hunt in that area or know about it. The property is mostly a recent clear cut with a flowing stream in the middle with some hardwoods on each side. It is approximately 150 acres. I have walked the property and saw a fair amount of tracks. Is this area a waste of time or is there some decent deer.... Read More

Waterfowl Hunting in Delacroix Island in Southeast Louisiana
QUICK TEAL HUNT! Our guests today were treated to a quick teal hunt. The birds flew steady and the shooting kept them falling in the decoys. At 8:15 with one bird short of the limit and some rain falling, our guests called it a day. There were still birds flying but the guys did not want to get wet. Things are far from normal down in the parish so if you considering a hunt this weekend.... Read More

TEAL LIMITS BY 7:11 A.M. One of my guides and I made a quick trip this morning to see what Gustav and Ike left for us. What we found were quick limits of 8 blue wings and we had the marsh to ourselves. I did not hear a single shot other than ours. Now for the bad news. The marsh in Canearvon/Lake Leery area suffered another serious blow. The land has once again moved around and what was.... Read More
