Anyone have coordinates for the new reef northeast of California Point? I called CCA and the nice lady was only to happy to oblige, unfortunately her coordinates were near Southwest Pass, maybe she thought I was in the Tarpon mode as that's certainly a good location she had. CCA was supposed to announce the coordintates upon completion but I cannot find a thing. Just get me close, the.... Read More
Monday 4/22 was another windy day out of Sweetwater Marina in Delacroix and the water
although clearing up from the east winds was still a bit dirty. After three stops fishing deep in mostly dirty water with only a few Trout to show for it, I decided to run towards the easterly winds to meet the cleaner water. When crossing Four Horse Lake I noticed the water clearing up so I shut down to.... Read More
With the pending weather and only one day off due to unforeseen work issues, John Rucker and I decided to make the most of it. I just had to be on Delacroix Island, spend some time with Capt. Jack to see the progress on the new launch ramp, and spend some quality time on the water.
Without any agenda we were able to accomplish it all. The ramp is nearing completion, these are the first.... Read More
I met Capt. Ryan Roy from First Cast Fishing Charters at Houston Marine while upgrading my Tugboat license. We decided to make a trip today (Monday) but I'm getting wary of these east coast guys (Hopedale) infringing on our Delacroix turf. We had a pretty good day with Trout number 50 hitting the box at 9 a.m. but I think the Trout Gods are upset with me. Believe it or not it was not a one.... Read More
Last week I spent a day scouting different areas of Delacroix, of course I ran into shrimp getting hammered by Trout. I had two poles on the bow with me, one rigged with a Matrix Shad under cork and a Top Dog Jr. When I cast the Matrix Shad the Trout would hit my cork, when I cast the Top Dog Jr. I was getting very few hits and certainly missing the Trout below it so I figured out a way to.... It's never a bad idea when one is mechanically inept as I am to take one's favorite mechanic (Sal's Marine) and good friend fishing. Although it sounds like a match made in heaven, seldom does it work out as one might think.
Of course nothing would go wrong with the boat, not even a hiccup with a mechanic on board. Of course that didn't translate into making him a fisherman either. When.... Read More
The Tarpon have begun arriving as usual in the West Delta area near block 58. A few big schools were spotted but anglers who fished for them this past weekend had a tough time spotting fish due to the seas. Another report from an area that held Tarpon last year, between the east end of Biloxi Marsh and Chanedleur Islands, Tarpon have been spotted. With better Lake P. conditions this year than.... Myself and crew spent 4 days (Friday through Monday) fishing from Myrtle Grove. We fished from South Lafitte to Grand Isle, the beaches, Barataria Bay, inside Myrtle Grove, and Four Bayou Pass. We caught a limit of 75 Friday, limit of 75 Saturday, limit of 75 Sunday, and 60 Trout on Monday. Fish were decent but not monsters, a good portion of them were 15 to 18,” a mixed bag and plenty of.... Read More
Fished from Sweetwater Marina the last couple of days, fortunately finding Trout all over place. Scott (nightfisher) and I fished Sunday only catching 28 Trout but with the water cleaning up and good tide we knew it was a matter of time before they would feed well.
Monday with my father, Scott, and Chris we began catching Trout inside putting 40 Trout and a Flounder in the box before taking.... Read More
Departed Sweetwater Marina Friday morning with my father, headed straight to the islands between Bay Gardene and Bay Crabe. The incoming tide took a while to get started so we waited it out as we were still picking up Trout slowly. Around 10 a.m. the tide picked up some steam then the bigger Trout responded. Since the Trout were somewhat scattered I used the trolling motor to work around the.... Read More
After 3 weeks of captain's licence renewal, upgrade, changes, USCG class, work etc., I was finally able to get down to Sweetwater to fish a couple of days. Since it's been awhile and the winds were light I was dying to take a look outside then fish our way back through the inside. I haven't been out in a while, I wanted to scout as much as possible. Although I have many reliable reports of.... Read More
Although fishing is my life, I enjoy the wonderful people who share the same passion for the outdoors and life in Louisiana. The past few days spent at Sweetwater Lodge was filled with good people and fun times. My lifelong friend Chris, who started fishing together with me for Trout 35 years ago and my good friend Barry D. joined us to pass some of the foul weather time awaiting an.... Read More
With the water temperature 60 degrees and little tide movement, we decided to work the flats in less than 2 feet of water. After many casts with no bites Chris said, 'They don't want to bite, I'll make them bite,' and that he did! The wind was still, the water was calm but it exploded when a 22' Trout smashed Chris' Top Dog jr. on his first cast. Slowly working the flat we picked up the first.... Read More
The first shipments of the new 10' Power Pole Blade Series began arriving at Louisiana dealers this past week. I know I've been anxiously awaiting it's arrival since I've had a deposit on one for over six months. Had it installed today and with the many improvements I can tell you this unit is better than my first 8' Power Pole and the Minn Kota Talon which was removed from my boat.... Read More
I received a lot of questions about 'Real Time Water Data' so it seems easier to make a general post as this information pertains to many bodies of water statewide and nationwide. The website is US Geological Survey: www.usgs.gov This will land you on the home page of the USGS.
From the home page of USGS scroll down to the middle of the page, on the right hand side look for 'Science in.... Read More
I knew yesterday the day before the front would be a good day to fish but I was working. Since I had today off I was hoping to catch the calm that sometimes appears right after the rain part of a front moves through. So the rain comes through, the sun pops out, the wind dies down to nothing so I did catch a nice, but small window. Everything looked great except for my fishing partner.... Read More
Fished with Barry D. Sunday and Monday out of Sweetwater Marina Delacroix this week. Although we are still catching Trout on the bottom of Oak River and in the holes, once the surface water temps. climbed to 65 degrees the Trout fanned out across the bays. Fall like fishing again with the Trout thick in Pt. Fienne, Bay Jack Nevette, and Skippy Bay.
35 of our Trout came from Oak River near.... Read More
