  • Current price list
Just went pick up some feed at R.Schexnayder & Sons near Erwinville and took a pic of their price board to share. I buy the product called 'deer block'. Its a gooey block of molasses and corn and rice brand.

Take this advice from a father of 2 hunters. Don't let those pumpkins go to waste. They make great targets. My kids love shooting pumpkins after halloween. Young kids especially need that added fun factor to make learning shooting skills more interesting. The older kids (like me) love to watch them exploded.

  • Nice new pirogue.
Just got my new pirogue this week. It's a Ron Chapman King with 2 spud holes just behind the seat. Got 2 cypress pirogue paddles from the factory too. This boat has 600lb capacity and only weighs 70 lbs. My daughter and I paddled it yesterday in an event called 'Paddle Bayou Lafourche'. We paddled 15 miles. Great boat. We could stand and paddle this boat it's so stable. Nice people at the....  Read More

Deer Hunting in Louisiana
On a recent trip to a south Texas exotic farm, I witnessed large groups of animals being more interested in alfalfa than dry pellets or corn. After seeing this I immediately thought that maybe I could get one of those hay hanging baskets from Tractor Supply, and put it on a tree rather than my usual feeder full of corn. Anyone ever try this?

After almost a year the bridge in Ramah to cross the bayou to LA 3000 is finally finished! I was stariting to get tired of it taking an hour to get to my camp rather than 27 minutes. Not to mention the detour to Munson Road was treacherous with all those curves. Just in time for upcoming work days!

  • South Farm crawfish cart
My son doesn't have his drivers license yet, and his buddy doesn't have a truck to haul the atv, so he came up with this set-up to crawfish south farm with tomorrow. Figured I'd share so others without atv's might be inspired to come up with their own alternative to hauling gear 500 yards to the ponds. Check out his net grabber/ paint roller. It almost works as good as my golf ball....  Read More

Just got an email from the biologist Tony Vidrine that's in charge of the South Farm complex on Sherburne WMA saying that the crawfish season will begin on the 15th of March this year. I also asked him if the recent construction of the water control structures would mess up the crawfishing. His reply was that it will help the crawfishing this year. It's probably still too cold, and probably....  Read More

I\\\\\\\'m not a tree hugger or an animal rights activist, but the story on the main page of LASM , where the writer suggest using live baby nutria is pretty disturbing. Come on now, really. \\\\\\\'Let the baby swim with it\\\\\\\'s webbed feet back to the boat\\\\\\\'? The angler in the story....  Read More

My 9.9 hp mariner's lower unit is toast. Anyone know where to buy another one? The motor runs like a clock, so I'd hate to trash it. Might be time for a new motor. Any comments welcome.

  • 8 point basin buck.
Killed this 8 point in the basin, yesterday, while he was chasing a doe. His 185lb body walked right into a 45/70 round 170 yards from me. Ran maybe 20 yards.

Boats in Louisiana
Anybody got a suggestion for locking a cranking battery on a boat to keep it from being stolen? We got a pontoon boat at our camp that we use to cross our atv's with and we have to take it off and lock it up after each time we use it so it doesn't get stolen. I've been looking on the web and haven't seen anything.

I got a new vehicle that doesn't have tinted windows. I live near Baton Rouge. Anyone ever use a company in this area that they would recommend to tint a new vehicle's windows?

One of my hunting club's members wrote this report on another web site. He is not a member here on LASM, but said it would be OK if I posted it. I read the story and though it was so cool, I wanted to share it: Wow, this one was a hunt to remember. Made it to my camp friday night and hit the bed early. Saturday morning I woke up and waited for the storm to pass. At 6:30 I hit the woods and....  Read More

Offshore Fishing in Louisiana
While LASM was down yesterday I went and checked out the LASM Facebook page. I was really dissapointed at how many negative comments were left on Coon's big tarpon. Stuff like 'fish killer', and 'wannabe', or 'you can't eat it'. I'm not wanting to start a thread like that here, so if it turns into that I will delete it. I started this thread, because I have no other way of....  Read More

Posted this in another thread, but thought it important enough to start a new one. Just left my vet with 2 beagles that were heartworm positive. Both of them have been on heartguard since they were 8 weeks old. Never missed a day. I found out that it is now known that it is possible that the chew style heartguard given whole has a chance that it isn't fully ingested before it is passed....  Read More

Driving from Baton Rouge to Lafayette this morning I saw a lot of dead fish between Ramah and Whiskey bay. Not sure what happened, but if you planned on going in the next few days, I'd make plans elsewhere.

How does the scam report work in the classified? If I see an obvious scam and flag it, what happens after that? I haven't looked at it for a while, and now I remember why. Such a shame. I used to like to look at the classified more than the reports. Seems like a phone number requirement or something........ It's easy to tell the scams, but it takes so long to scroll through them. I sold....  Read More

Thanks LASM. I bought my son a .44 mag H&R when he was younger, and through an ad in the classified I was able to trade it for an H&R 45-70. Worked out great for both parties. The guy had a young son with 2 even younger ones that could really use the .44 mag and my son is a big guy now and will make good use of the 45-70. Score for LASM classified!

Just picked up my beagles from Amite River Kennel for probably their last running of the rabbits till it gets cool again. I don't run them after rabbits during the hot season. This kennel is the coolest place to bring rabbit dogs. They have a bunch of pens from 1 acre to 40 acres that have wild rabbits in them with lots of cover. My dogs were started here when they were 6 months old. I....  Read More
