Any anglers out there have a little free time to help me navigate the marsh to the east of Leeville? One would assume the larger canals are the deepest but that definitely is not always the case. Also, are most bays safe to cross? I'm curious of water depths on an average day. Which canals are safe (3-5ft) and which are questionable(2-3ft).Thanks
Sunday morning I took the old man fishing in Leeville. The water was very low (2 feet lower than normal), but the tide was rising all afternoon. Of course we headed west when everyone is catching limits of specks to the east. Our first stop was in the self named 'south east' canal. Water was dirty. Saw reds chasing baits at the mouth of cuts. Cocahoe's under a cork and carolina rigged did the.... Read More
Finished this morning and ended with 1 speck. That's right one. First stop timbalier islands. Ocean and back side of the east and west points. Nothing. Headed to 5 spots in Leeville around picket bay. 1 speck. We fished cocahoes Carolina rigged, & under a popping cork. I through tandem rigged everything at the island As well as three topwaters (black, white, and chartreuse) top water..... Read More
Friday we headed south of little lake. We picked up 10 trout early in the morning then the bite shut down. Around 10:00pm we found a few more fishing points. We spent the rest of the day scouting new spots, and then found the trout stacked up on an oyster bed and finished the day with 29 around 3:00pm.
Saturday we fished from 6-12. We had a couple.... Read More
Ok give me plan of attack. I'm at a camp just north of coco's marina. Managed 3 flounder, 9 specks in the bays under cork. Give me a spot north, south, canals, bays, rocks, something. I want a limit. I'll pay you cash!
Took a trip to Leeville for the first time this weekend and got stuck on a mud flat twice in South Texaco field! After feeling like a Billy Crystal...(think about it)...we moved on. Are certain canals deeper than others? My picture shows where we got stuck (x) and the blue line shows where we were headed.
We ended the day in pickett bay and deep bayou, working the points and wind beaten shore..... Read More
Simply put I want to do this, on a white sand beach, with a fire pit, and a Corona in my hand. Where can I make that happen besides Grand Isle State Park. Again...'White' sand beach. Apparently the great state of Alabama only lets you camp in pine trees. Thanks.
I'm not pointing fingers but JLS please contribute quality not quantity :). I don't intend to rant, or bash any individual on here but since we are all truly unique individuals and for the integrity of this site JLS can you please post and comment QUALITY not quantity. I will speak for every user on this site that we love to read good detailed fishing report and will certainly chime in with.... Read More
I'm curious to know why trolling rattle traps on the causeway is so popular in the spring, but you don't hear much about about it in the summertime. Is there any rhyme or reason for this or is it still productive? My guess is that you cover more ground when the it's slim picking in the spring. Marinas push live shrimp in the summer (profit?) but many people are still very affective flipping.... Read More
Ok guys i'm in the market for a new or slightly used fiberglass bay boat and I have some basic questions. I'm shooting for a new boat 20K-30K, 40-50mph MAX speed, and a total length 19,20 or 21 feet.
In your opinion what boat & motor answers these three criteria? I would love to have a 24 foot with a 225 on the back but that is out of my price range. Right now i'm eyeing a 19 foot nautic.... Read More
Do any of you have experience with kayak fishing Vermilion/Rockefeller area? I'd primarily like to stalk reds in the marsh, but if there are some rocks, reefs, or sandbars I should know about that would be great info. Where is the best place to put in? I'm looking at Google Maps and on Hwy 82 from Dyson Ditch (below White Lake) all the way west to Upper and Lower Mud Lake appears to have marsh.... Read More
Just returned from a 2 day adventure near coons point out of dularge and I can tell you the specks have not arrived but the sharks, rays, and catfish are in there by the hundreds!!! I sight fished out of my kayak on the bay side of the island mostly and for every red that swam by I saw at least 20 sharks ranging from 2-5 feet. I tracked one over 6 feet long for about 20 minutes in 3 feet of water.... Read More
I took a trip to bayou sauvage this past weekend and thought I'd share some footage. Launched around Fort MaComb and took the pass south near Lake Borgne. Looking for reds but the water was fresh. Saw some gar and caught 2 Bass. Enjoy!
I know tomorrow brings stiff south winds, but I'm looking to make a trip early in the morning. I don't have a location set, but I'd like to try somewhere new. I was considering the following locations...
-South East Lake Maurapas near Middendorfs
-I'll consider anywhere down HWY1 also, just let me know.
I took a little trip down to Point Auc Chenes this past week. I launched at a pump station on the south side of Isle of Jean Charles road and fished the oyster beds, cuts, and old wooden pilings at the following (GPS 29.424703,-90.467638). All fish were caught on a chartreuse deadly dudly with a gold blade. Enjoy...
Headed to Dulac/Cocodrie this weekend and need a little advice. I know any body of water in South LA will have damn near 100 names so Google Maps is assisting me with points of interest. Past trips have begun at Four Points Landing then headed Northwest to Treasure bay to hunt for reds. This weekend we would like to head due south out towards cocodrie and fish the islands ,beaches and any rock.... Read More
