Fishing in Lafitte in Southeast Louisiana
Tried to fish all week but the storms and high winds make it tough. Fished in the rain Friday and the bass went crazy. Tried to fish Sat. but could hear the lighting coming so left went. Was at the camp a short time and out of no where a major lighting strike hit and almost knocked me off the swing. This could have been bad for anyone in a boat. Came from no where and it was the only strike..... Read More

Last week we had storms until Friday then no wind and no storms at night water was gin clear. So Friday am with light winds the bass were all over the place. Also check the post for Friday everyone caught limits of trout and reds. Seems like we just can/t get two days without strong west winds. My old fishing buddy Cop Cop Smith the icon of Hopedale La for 60yrs always said let him pick the day.... Read More

On vacation in Nelson Pa. fishing is great and first time on 4th of July I wore a jacket and catch Walleye and small mouth bass. The lake and mountains with deer on the banks is so beautiful and the fishing is great.

First time with the smallies as the are called . Was able to catch the babies but the big boys were to hard to bring in the boat. Never saw fish that jumped as high as you stand need light tackle and that gives them the edege. Fishing in the pa lakes is so beautiful with deer all over the shore.

Special thanks to our son who serviced in the Navy. Always remember his first leave after boot camp. He wanted to go fishing as soon as he was home and we went to Golden Meadows on the coldest day of my fishing times and never once talked about the cold only good times. PS Guess it was not to cold because after that he was stationed in Attica Alaska for 2years.

I have posted many times weather is the main problem for good and bad fishing. Last few days is a perfect example of that. With perfect weather the trout are everywhere and the birds are feeding everywhere you look. Light winds and green water how can you not catch fish in the summer. The shrimp are moving north and are now about half way from GI to Lafitte and the trout are right with them..... Read More

Not a big fan of the local TV shows to much cooking and bull. But yesterday with 50MPH winds I watched the Sportsman show on catching crappie at TB. This guide was one of the best with the way he explanted his operation and how to fish

crappie. His idea about why and when to fish a bush top was the best sure cleared up a lot for me. Capt. Bob is also one of the best shows with information.... Read More

There are two drag lines making a canal in the Pen on the west side where it enters Bayou DuPont. They take dirt and put it in the Pen making a canal along the west bank with new rocks. My question is why not put this mud behind the rocks that they just put into place. Why put it out in the Pen. Now this is the kicker they did this over a year ago and came back and put this mud back in the canal.... Read More

Sunday after church and a great meal my 7year old granddaughter took me on a fishing trip. Her dad and her fish almost every day in the subdivision they live. First cast was a two pound bass and it was on at the many stops she took me to. Only problem when we ran into a school of monster red ears bedding. They were all over the bank in 8inches of water and would not hit worms or any lure we.... Read More

Every year we open the shrimp season middle of May and I always hear this cry plenty of shrimp but small. This year why not wait a few weeks and let them grow. With this cold water sure the shrimp are very small.

Was able to upgrade a pulley on my Talon Thursday at Ben's shop did not take long and he was able to do it on the boat. If you have a Talon you may want to give him a call and get this up grade.

As a young guy we use to fish all over with a 12flat boat on top the car. The problem was parking your car without a major break in. This time of year I love to fish the hidden lakes around Ruddock but never feel safe when I am the only boat at the landing. The landing off hwy 90 have always had break in problems. Could the state put in surveillance cameras to catch these crooks. I have been.... Read More

Seems like every day there is a post about a fisherman having someone move in on him. I DVR the Bassmaster Classic and watched it last night. The guy leading the classic had to tell a boat not to get into his fishing area. Now this guy must have got up in the am and spend a ton on gas to watch and he is blocking the guy he wants to watch. When the pro ask him to move he gets smart and tells him.... Read More

With all the outboard motor gang going 4stroke why is Mercury still pushing the 2stroke. Seems like it is a good motor but why go against the flow. Keep hearing that in a few years there will be only 4 stroke. Mercury must know somehting.

Now the best one more reefs for us fisherman. Several years ago state spent about a million dollars putting a reef by Bason's in the Sulfur mines. Has anyone ever seen a post of fish being caught over this reef. The Sulfur.... Read More

Last week we caught some big spec's and bass and they had nothing in their stomach. They have been trying to survive the cold and when it starts to warm they are looking for a big meal. Until the shrimp and shad show up these big trout love to feed on big mullet. This is when I get out my bass stick baits and hold on for some great action. Love top water but for some reason the trout like a.... Read More
