  • LAFITTE TROUT
For the past 3 months the fishing in Lafitte was as good as it can be. We had light winds and a low river. The water had that great green color that trout follow. Last few days they are gone and so is the good water still clean but the color is now brown. Guess time to talk about reducing limits lol. Over the years I have seen fishing great in the canals all along hwy1 from Larose to GI. These....  Read More

  • Lafitte trip last month.
As we start a new year how many fishing changes will we add. Can remember when there was no back down landings in the Hopedale area and all closed a 5pm. No one would keep a red fish or drum unless you want to feed the cat. Moved to BR and was told no way I would fish for those slimy salt water trout now that is all you read and hear about in BR. Bass boats were the king now Bay boats rule the....  Read More

  • Henry Golden Boy rifle
  • My grand daughter in the paper last Sunday
I purchased a Henry Golden Boy level action rifle mostly for the grand kids to learn how to shot. This sure did work out well as the grand kids love the action and loading this rifle. The other day one of them jammed a round and we damaged the firing pin. I contacted Henry and they immediately send me a pick up order and said their would be no charge for the repair. This was all done in one day.....  Read More

  • Great weather trout
This spring we had the worse weather and the fishing was very poor one of the worse. Been fishing for many many years and have never seen great weather like we have had this fall and the fishing has been the best ever. Guess like they say it all will even out in the end. Glad we got this part back as the spring was a killer with West winds and a high river.

Academy Sports has just opened a 3rd store in BR area. Their prices blow the other stores away on fishing tackle. With gas down and plastic baits less than two dollars things are looking up. PS With all the trout fishing reports guess we can put the no trout idea to rest until the strong west winds arrive and the snow melts. But for now with great weather and light winds and a 3.3 at the NO....  Read More

  • THE ARE PLENTY OF THEM TOO
  • last month picture of fish
  • bass last month
Let's see the BP oil spill and the diversions have killed all the trout, reds and bass. Well this fall I have found them all in Lafitte. Now remember this is only Lafitte and I am not fishing any other area. No matter how bad the weather has been we have been able to find fish. This is so great with grand kids and only hope it keeps up like this for the Christmas time when the kids will be....  Read More

  • /Thanksgiving limits
Been fishing with the family on Thanksgiving week for the past 50 years. This was one of the best and could be the best ever with limits of bass, reds and trout. When we first started no one fished on Thanksgiving but now the boats are everywhere. Glad we have the boat at the camp sure would not want to fight that boat traffic. Grand kids had a ball. PS Will take months to get my equipment back....  Read More

This was in the the BR Paper and is a great idea but why so long/ Wish they would do this in Lafitte area where we have miles and miles of rock walls. At the same time, the state is nearing completion of a $3.4 million project to restore the marsh behind the rock wall. Sediment is dredged from the bayou and pumped over the rock and into the marsh area. PS I posted this idea after the first wall....  Read More

  • these fish caught last fall Lafitte.
Remember the post about the fisherman that said they were not catching any trout and they always did in the past. Now I see a ton of post one guide is talking about limits on every trip. Another is talking about the lake is back on. We have been catching trout a mile from the camp all you want. So just maybe all the trout are not gone. PS Maybe also light winds and low river may be the reason.....  Read More

  • Some big bass in Lafitte
Last week on vacation and my son wanted to catch some bass. Told him to turn on GPS in our boat and follow my bread crumb to great bass action. Well he did and no problem finding some great bass action. Always though the trolling motor was the best but the GPS is so close. And people talk about the good old days lol. GPS is like having a guide in your boat.

  • Time for the young guys to take over
Harry Hildebrand/s article on Louisiana Sports was right on about trolling the lake. All the other BS is just that this is the way to troll the lake for over 50 plus years of experience. I though I was the old lake fisherman so glad to see Harry has 10 years on me something for me to look forward to. As a part of the old Benny Larmann Irish Bayou trolling gang sure have seen the lake change. Now....  Read More

  • NEW LAND LOOKS GREAT
For the past several years the government are working on the Bayou Dupont area to increase land. At present time they are spending millions for 360 acers of land. To get their heavy equipment to the area they want to work they need to build a canal for several miles. Here is a picture of the spoil area that was just mud several months ago. Just think how much land we could have if they had used....  Read More

My son and I went to the camp this week end for work an some bass fishing. On the way to the camp on interstate hwy from Laplace to NO we noticed that you no longer see any water on the west and the lake on the east there is only grass. After catching some bass for a fry we took a boat ride from Barataria Bay to Lake Salvador to check out some fall spots. Again we saw grass where water use to....  Read More

  • grass bass in lafitte
With all the fresh water bass fishing has been great this year. Problem is they are in grass that you can just about walk on not easy. We caught these by 8am today but believe me most fisherman are not going to fight the grass we did.
Bass fishing is my fist love so no trout is bir a problem if you can catch bass like this in short order and less than 2gallons of gas.

  • little buddy fishing
I fished Breton Sound for 35plus years with Cop Cop Smith an Icon in that area. He could have written this column as he fished the same way. Once again the word is live bait anyone that leaves the dock in August without live bait is making a big mistake. Remember this the deeper you have to fish the more important live bait becomes. To me the biggest plus for Breton Sound is no rollers. PS Most....  Read More
