  • Time for the young guys to take over
Harry Hildebrand/s article on Louisiana Sports was right on about trolling the lake. All the other BS is just that this is the way to troll the lake for over 50 plus years of experience. I though I was the old lake fisherman so glad to see Harry has 10 years on me something for me to look forward to. As a part of the old Benny Larmann Irish Bayou trolling gang sure have seen the lake change. Now....  Read More

  • NEW LAND LOOKS GREAT
For the past several years the government are working on the Bayou Dupont area to increase land. At present time they are spending millions for 360 acers of land. To get their heavy equipment to the area they want to work they need to build a canal for several miles. Here is a picture of the spoil area that was just mud several months ago. Just think how much land we could have if they had used....  Read More

My son and I went to the camp this week end for work an some bass fishing. On the way to the camp on interstate hwy from Laplace to NO we noticed that you no longer see any water on the west and the lake on the east there is only grass. After catching some bass for a fry we took a boat ride from Barataria Bay to Lake Salvador to check out some fall spots. Again we saw grass where water use to....  Read More

  • grass bass in lafitte
With all the fresh water bass fishing has been great this year. Problem is they are in grass that you can just about walk on not easy. We caught these by 8am today but believe me most fisherman are not going to fight the grass we did.
Bass fishing is my fist love so no trout is bir a problem if you can catch bass like this in short order and less than 2gallons of gas.

I fished Breton Sound for 35plus years with Cop Cop Smith an Icon in that area. He could have written this column as he fished the same way. Once again the word is live bait anyone that leaves the dock in August without live bait is making a big mistake. Remember this the deeper you have to fish the more important live bait becomes. To me the biggest plus for Breton Sound is no rollers. PS Most....  Read More

Don't know how long it has been since the river gauge in NO has been below that magic number 5. Just checked and it will be this week. Time to think about fishing the river in Venice nothing like it. This is about as easy fishing as it is just fish in the river and passes. The way it is dropping saltwater should be coming in like tidal wave if we get some SE winds. Maybe a great fall if we....  Read More

Tried to fish all week but the storms and high winds make it tough. Fished in the rain Friday and the bass went crazy. Tried to fish Sat. but could hear the lighting coming so left went. Was at the camp a short time and out of no where a major lighting strike hit and almost knocked me off the swing. This could have been bad for anyone in a boat. Came from no where and it was the only strike.....  Read More

First time with the smallies as the are called . Was able to catch the babies but the big boys were to hard to bring in the boat. Never saw fish that jumped as high as you stand need light tackle and that gives them the edege. Fishing in the pa lakes is so beautiful with deer all over the shore.

Special thanks to our son who serviced in the Navy. Always remember his first leave after boot camp. He wanted to go fishing as soon as he was home and we went to Golden Meadows on the coldest day of my fishing times and never once talked about the cold only good times. PS Guess it was not to cold because after that he was stationed in Attica Alaska for 2years.

  • Late and morning bass action
I have posted many times weather is the main problem for good and bad fishing. Last few days is a perfect example of that. With perfect weather the trout are everywhere and the birds are feeding everywhere you look. Light winds and green water how can you not catch fish in the summer. The shrimp are moving north and are now about half way from GI to Lafitte and the trout are right with them.....  Read More

Not a big fan of the local TV shows to much cooking and bull. But yesterday with 50MPH winds I watched the Sportsman show on catching crappie at TB. This guide was one of the best with the way he explanted his operation and how to fish
crappie. His idea about why and when to fish a bush top was the best sure cleared up a lot for me. Capt. Bob is also one of the best shows with information....  Read More

Fishing in Lafitte in Southeast Louisiana
There are two drag lines making a canal in the Pen on the west side where it enters Bayou DuPont. They take dirt and put it in the Pen making a canal along the west bank with new rocks. My question is why not put this mud behind the rocks that they just put into place. Why put it out in the Pen. Now this is the kicker they did this over a year ago and came back and put this mud back in the canal....  Read More
