Inshore Fishing in Delacroix Island in Southeast Louisiana
I consider myself very fortunate to have known Frank Davis as a friend and fishing partner. The years that I was lucky enough to take him fishing for his FishnGame report was truly a blessing. Thank goodness i had a chance a month ago to travel to Woodlands, TX and spend a couple days with Frank and Mary Claire. He was in a rehab center and had been for a month or so. As you can imagine, he.... Read More

  • Serigne's damage
  • sweetwater boat storage
Took a ride down to delacroix with delacro Joe this afternoon to check out the lodge. We feel blessed relative to the damage we sustained compared to lots of others. you have to be a property owner to get access and provide proof of ownership (wateer or electricity bill). No access to Shellbeach or Hopedale as Floristan(sp) still has water and debri covering it. sweetwater sustained.... Read More

Let me second Capt Jame's thank you to Chag's. It was a great evening of talkin fishing with some guide friends I don't get to see often enough and some great deals on some great Okuma, Shimano, and H&H lures and equipment. The food put on by the La Sportsman guys was great and the opportunity to get set up equipment and lures for the spring was awesome. Thanks Ray for putting this.... Read More

Had the pleasure of fishing Dan Bradley and his family; David, Michelle, and Sara today. fished the lee shore of Bay Lafourche (not a lot else you could do out there today with 15-20 mph winds). Dropped the trolling motor, fished out into the bay, and started catching 12-15 inch trout steadily. When the bite would stop, we would start another troll till we found them again. finished the.... Read More

Took my good friends Jim and Dustin Poche on a scouting trip yesterday to the outside to see how the trout are transitioning. Talked to a couple buds who were catching good numbers of trout on the inside including a six pounder in Four Horse Lake. But, I wanted to test the waters outside inspite of the winds. Left Delacro Joe's at 7am and headed to Bay Lafourche. After catching a handful of.... Read More

Hogheaven, there are some of us who worked for Capt John as guides in his stable of guides. We affectionately called him 'The Old Man'. It is simply a term of endearment for some of us. I always found it interesting that we called him that when i was three years older than John L.

It was amazing to watch 'the old man' get up every day in pain and go out to entertain the folks who would come down to the lodge expecting a limit of every species at Buras. I think of him often on those 4am mornings when I gwet up take folks fishing for the 4th or 5th dsay in a row. Capt Hopper, John Emmons, and I had some wonderful times on the front porch of the lodge having our coffee.... Read More

There doesn't seem to be a plan for guarding the coastline at Delacroix. The possible reason may be two fold. One, Bayou Terrabouef (the main easet-west bayou) at delacroix is the boundary line between St. Bernard and Plaquemines parishes. In talking with officials at St. Bernard, they do not have a plan for Delacroix. They are concentrating their efforts on Shell Beach and Breton Sound. I.... Read More

I won't take a lot of space here but the new boat is on its way. I placed my 2002 23.5 ft Fishmaster in the classified section. As you can imagine, i have to sell it. It has been a good one and is in very good condition. Not enough room in the garage for the two of them.

What a hot morning both tempature and fishing wise. Had Randy Dedeaux from Perkinston, MS and Marshall Baquet from Metairie on the boat yesterday. It was Randy's first saltwater experience in south Louisiana and Marshall put on a fish catching school for him. Marshall had the hot hand and the captain had the sore hand. I am here to tell ya that the hook extraction method using a 30 pound.... Read More

The trout bit later in the morning this past weekend as the tide didn't begin to fall till mid morning. Fished for Capt John L this weekend down Buras way and had a ball for two days with Steve, Adam, Redfish Charlie, and Bobby. Fished with these guys last year and we picked up where we left off, with fish on. Two good days of yankin trout out of the water on the west side followed by some.... Read More

Took a couple hardcore fishermen, AJ and Marhall out to Delacroix this morning and thank God the wind was just enough to keep those gnats away. Had a great morning as they caught their limits of nicer trout than we have been catching down at Pointe Fienne, a couple of nice reds for lagniappe, and five extra trout for my supper. The water was looking better below little lake. The Canaerven.... Read More

Had the pleasure of fishing with my old friend A J Truxillo this morning down at delacroix. I felt like i was on vacation this morning. We took AJ's flatboat to make getting in and out of the End of World launch easier. Good decision as that big ole fishmaster would have had a heck of time with the water a good 2 feet below normal. We finished our fifty mixed trout by 10AM and headed home. .... Read More

The trout have been hungry and in the shallows at Delacroix despite the cool weather of late. Today, I had the pleasure of fishuing with Don and Joshua Maille and their Alabama buds, Warren and his son Cody. A short run from the end of the world back launch and down the modified Bayou Gentilly offered up their limit of inside Delacroix trout by 9AM. The trout were caught on the world famous.... Read More

Had the pleasure this past week of doing several trips for and with Capt John L, and wanted to make sure the picture of probably the biggest fish to ever hit my boat got placed on here for Charles. Charles played this big ole black drum for 20 - 25 minutes on 10 pound berkley monofilament. As Capt John was heading our way with a camera crew to get some shots of it still in the water, Charles.... Read More

Made a run fro0m Buras to the Iron Banks friday morning looking for the big trout that have been coming out of that hole. My guests from Capt John L's lodge were Dan Casan, Chris Morgan, and his dad David Morgan. 16 mule trout later and the bite stopped, so we had to make a decision to either head back south after trout or head up into delacroix for some marsh reds. We sight cast to several.... Read More

After a weekend working with Capt John L, we hosted my best friends down to his Buras lodge for some fun fishing this morning. My old friend Joel, my sweetheart Jessie, her son Peter, and his friend Michael went lookng for the bull reds we released on Saturday. Capt John found them feeding on a point and called us to come join in the fun. We parked our boats end to end and the yelling.... Read More

Had the pleasure again of assisting Capt John L with a fun groupg of GM guys from Shreveport. Stay in the business long enough and some trips are like a reunion of sorts. Good to have Danny, Rick, and Kelly (eventhough he is a Georgia fan) on my boat Saturday. We found the trout on the east side wanted live bait but this threesome of hardcore fishers brought 38 nice trout over the gunnel with.... Read More
