Headed out Saturday in hopes of attemping to find some trout. Weather didn't really cooperate and had to fish inshore. Struggled with 20+ winds but was able to pull out some redfish and a couple of drum. Sunday, wind calmed down and was able to make a quick run to some inshore rigs. Made it out to Grand Chenier for opening weekend without dissappointment. WAs able to pull out a limit of ducks Sat and Sun although Sunday was significantly slower. Was also fortunate to find some redfish hanging around each afternoon which is an nice way to complete any day. Pic is ducks and fish from Saturday.

Went to Rockefeller Refuge this past weekend and put some shrimp and redfish in the boat. One redfish in particular had an odd mouth but was quickly thrown in the ice chest while fish were biting. Upon looking at it later realized how different it actually looked. It is pretty much missing the bottom jaw. I have never caught or seen a fish like this and was just wondering if anyone had seen one.... Read More

Looking for some advice. I have an 15-20 yr old go-devil that is showing mechanical wear and am considering a new motor. I hunt with others that have a prodrive & gator tail which are faster, but when in shallow water (less than 1 ft), the godevil still performs better. Good to have duck season around again. Got together with some family and had a great opening day. Following the hunt, convinced a couple tired individuals to join me in catching some redfish and shrimp later that afternoon. Good weekend altogether

Tried calling a bunch of buddies to come fishing Sunday in the Mermentau River but no luck due to jobs/women. Ended up making a trip with my mom Sunday AM and did rather well. The only problem that I ran into was that once I caught my 5, she told me that I was not allowed to fish because i was not allowed to catch any of hers. Fish caught on live finger mullet, live shrimp, and top water.

Been kind of slow around the refuge lately so decided to make a trip to the Mermentau River to see if I could find some fish. After catching bait, I launched around 9-10 on Sat and Sun. Got into a school of redfish each day ranging from 26-28in and managed to pick up a a couple with each pass of the school. Launched out of Joseph Harbor on Sat. Fishing was a little slow at first but managed to pick up a couple reds and drum and 7 dozen crabs at a weir. After making a move, got a surprise and got into a shallow area with bait popping all around us. After making a tackle switch, managed to land a dozen nice flounder which was unexpected. I've been fishing my whole life but recently fished with a St. Croix rod and noticed a difference in sensitivity from previous rods. I'm looking to invest up to $250 in a baitcaster rod with max sensitivity yet durable for saltwater fishing. Decided to go hunting this weekend due to weather. Hunted Sat morning and shot a a couple of birds out of each of our blinds but overall a little slow. Decided to take it easy and sleep in due to low production. Ended up putting the boat in to do a little fishing Sun afternoon. Had some difficulty cast netting and couldn't catch any bait whatsoever. Been hunting and fishing around the refuge for the past week. Did alright on the hunting the weekend before thanksgiving although the birds have been very skittish and weary. Made first hunt of year and shot 8 teal b/t the 4 of us. Was slow so decided to do a lil bank fishing at Joseph Harbor because of boat trouble. Landed 2 reds and a nice flounder. Lost another larger flounder, a red, and had two popped (assuming bull reds). Hunted sunday morning without any success. LOTS OF RAIN all weekend and water is very high right now

Started off the day cast netting for bait. Went to a coulple of structures near shore and was alble to pick up a couple of trout. Caught the redfish near the main canal at Joseph's Harbor. overall 10 trout and 2 refish.

Great post, good going guys
Got a late start yesterday at the Refuge. Launched out of Joseph Harbor looking to catch some shrimp/crabs. Started out at Cement Dam and caught a limit of large shrimp with relative ease and moved down to LSU and got 6 dozen good size crabs. Looking forward to teal season only weeks away.

I've hunted in the Grand Chenier area for years and plan to start fishing/crabbing the Joseph's harbor area. I'm just looking for advice or caution as far as navigating through some of the canals, weirs, or even exiting into the gulf. I'm just wandering if there are certain areas (reefs, structures, or off-limits areas) that could cause problems while navigating. Any advice would be appreciated.
I am considering building a camp on some property. Does anyone have and advice on pre-fabricated buidings that are capable of being lifted onto pilings and are capable of sustaining strong winds?

Haven't been out on the water in a while and plan on launching at Cypremort Point. Has anyone had any luck fishing recently? Any advice on location, water quality, or bait in the bay or near Marsh Island would be appreciated.
Just entered CCA Star Tournament. What's the best way to keep a fish until weigh in to maximize the weight. I've heard in the past to put them in the live well and not to throw them in the ice chest because they can lose water weight. Anyone know the most efficient way?

First, you have to catch a fish for the weigh-in, then put....
I am looking into purchasing a new baitcaster and mostly fish with shimano. I saw that Penn has just put out this new low profile baitcaster. Has anyone bought or fished with one and would you reccommend it?
