Did anyone else attend the boat show this weekend? It was really good, with every make and model available there, and some manufacturers even had multiple models there. They were parked all over, from the Pickets, to Last Island. Most I have ever seen. I just wish they would give boating classes w/ the purchase of a new boat, because thier is a ton of people out there that desperately need.... Read More
The 1st Annual benefit Clay Shoot for Vince Dardar will be held June 6th, 2009 at GOL Shooting Complex in Vermillion Parish. Great prizes, lots of food & drinks, and good people getting together for a great fundraiser!
For those of you not familiar, Vince was killed in a plane crash last year in Houston, Texas. Mr. Dardar was a great person, a leader in the community, a successful.... Read More
Do yourself a favor and avoid Lafayette Power Sports at all cost. I have never used these guys, and heard nothing but bad things about them, and now I know why. I needed a couple of minor parts for my Rhino, and since my office is in Lafayette, I figured what harm could they do.
Well, I found out today when I went pick up my parts that were on order for a week. I needed a plastic end cap to.... Read More
Made our way down to Dularge Friday after dropping boat off on Thrusday. Wasn't sure what to expect w/ Mr. Weather man, but we missed Sat. morning taking care of some repairs and "honey-do" shopping in Houma, then went out Sunday morning. Not nearly as bad as I expected. Anchored at Coon Point and hit the water for our first wade fish of the year and smoked em' 2 at a time. Wife got.... Read More
With all the crapp you see nowadays, I just had to post this since it put a smile on my face. Hopefully, if someone has the same feelings I do, they will appreciate this family run store and patronize it since they compete against the big boys like Walmart and Winn Dixie.
Located on each entrance to this store is a sign which reads as follows:
In order to maintain a respectful environment.... Read More
The bird we nicknamed Obama (always talking, but never acting right) was laid to rest this morning at 7:22 by a load of 3.5" #5's from my Browning Gold at 11 yards. To say I have a "history" with this bird is an understatment and I never realized how addictive turkey hunting is until this morning! I actually high fived a pine tree since I was by myself.
Man, feel like I been kicked in the gonads! A turkey can not possibly be that smart, his brain is so small!
Had my little man (9 y/o) with me for some thunderchicken action this past weekend and it was just me and him for a boys weekend w/o his brothers. He is absolutely crazy about turkey hunting and is actually getting pretty good with a diaphram call. We have had a ok year so far at our.... Read More
Pretty good opening weekend despite all the wind yesterday. We had a total of 4 hunters on the lease, w/ 2 birds taken opening day, none today, but boy were they talking this morning! I'll be heading back up there as soon as I drop the kids off at school in the morning trying to get a little revenge from those 2 birds that got me this morning!
One of my mentors in the turkey woods is Mr. Bill.... Read More
Can't seem to get an answer to a question from the turkey pamphlet or the LDWF website. Any help is appreciated!
If I shoot a turkey as a license holder in the state of LA, I have a tag for the bird. No problem there. - Question is, I will be hunting with my two "little" partners this weekend, both of which will be the shooters. I will be playing guide and caller. Now that we have a.... Read More
This is my second year of carrying my wife's video camera around to video some turkey hunts. Problem is, this little handheld Sony is good, but the battery doesn't last very long. I even carry a spare battery and can not make it through the day.
Do any of you guys have any tips to getting a good quality camera that doesn't cost an arm and leg?
Well, Duckaholic and I rolled back into the driveway about 7:30 last night from our Del Rio turkey trip. Simply put, it was AWESOME! Thanks for the great memories and help in teaching me about turkey hunting Lee!
We arrived at the 10K acre ranch early enough Friday to do some scouting. Good map with details of the land showed us where the roosting areas would be since trees are a commodity.... Read More
I wanted to scout for turkeys this weekend, but the wife said I had to go fishing since I will be out of town next weekend on a Texas turkey hunt. Boy, twist my arm!
Headed down to Dularge on Friday and got there early enough to make a redfish trip, but the cold drinks were really, really smooth and ended up watching my dad and his buddy whack em' while we drank and messed around the bar!.... Read More
After learning a little about turkey hunting this year, I was educated on turkey chokes last weekend. Decided I needed one and shot three of them today. Browning Full choke, Primos Tight Wad, and a $20 HS Strut "Undertaker". The Tight Wad had the tightest pattern at 50 yards, but holes in the pattern at 20 yards that were too big for me. The Browning Full choke was good up close, but.... Read More
I was hesitating in posting this, since my better half may not like it but here we go.
With all the talk of fishing with the women that has come up lately, I figured I would pass on what helped save the last 3 fishing seasons for me. It's not for everyone, but it works for her! I guess I am both lucky and hampered by the fact that my wife loves to hunt and fish. She can hang with the best of.... Read More
Big Lake was blessed by having the "Pickle" among the boaters Saturday. When I saw it, I told my son we had to go over a introduce ourselves. Glad to meet you Gary and hope all of you guys enjoyed the trip to the west! Hope to see ya'll again someday.
It's time my friend! Best of luck in the big game tonight and deep down, I wish the best for you!
However, I will still be pulling for Florida since I think the Big 12 is conference that talks too much w/o backing it up! Let's see what they do with Florida's defense and if Bradford can move the ball.
No matter what, it sure has been fun watching you and Redeye and the others over.... Read More
Does anyone have any details of the hunting guide that was shot and killed by a client in Cameron Parish while duck hunting? Just looking for some sort of info in hopes that others can educate themselves and hopefully learn something from this horrible event.
Snuck off to my property in Acadia Parish before work the other day. I have a co-worker who was severely injured in the spring and is still trying to get back to normal. I was able to see him last week and he wanted a hog to cook for Christmas and I said sure, no problem. Set the trap last weekend and thought it was going to be easy! Those things are slick!
The woodducks have pretty much moved out of the "hole" we have been slammin' them at for the last few weeks. However, the mallards have moved in! Been a long time since I have seen mallards decoying into the woods in South LA. This year has been great and I am glad we have some birds after last season. Hopefully this trend will continue!
I have been having trouble with a certain group of trespassers for about 3 years now on a small piece of hunting land in Acadia Parish. I have tried being patient as these guys learn that it was illegal to use someone else's property for their hunting enjoyment without paying, but my patience has run out.
After running one family member off my land last week, I arrive this afternoon to see 3.... Read More
