Waterfowl and Duck Hunting in Southwest Louisiana
Anyone having any luck with the ducks in Gueydan? We see huge bodies of birds in certain fields everyday but they don't move from those fields. Frustrating to see thousands of birds 800 yards from you and you leave with 2 ducks.

Fishing in Mermentau River in Southwest Louisiana
Went spec hunting Sunday in Gueydan near some recently flooded pasture. As we were leaving we spotted a fish that was stranded in a flooding canal due to the water receding. The fish was black with a spot on the tail just like a redfish and was shaped like a redfish. We tried to catch to ID it but couldn't. What type of fish could this have been? Was it a lost redfish that came in with the....  Read More

Hog Hunting in Southwest Louisiana
Picked up a duck lease bordering bayou tortue that has about 30 acres or so of wooded swamp. There are deer there for sure, but I'm just curious if anyone has seen or killed hogs in that area. I'm pretty sure there are hogs in just about every area of LA now, but is there a substantial population?

I am taking my nephews on their first duck hunt for youth weekend and I want to make sure I am within the regs. The book states that adults may not hunt on the youth weekend but the kids must be accompanied by an adult. Does this mean that he adult just can't shoot? Can the adult call? Work dog? Retrieve birds?

With 9 feet of salt water predicted to intrude the calumet cut, how bad will it affect vegetation and ducks on the WMA. Also, everything east of there will get 9 or more feet. DO you expect a better duck season in the western portions of the state if the salt water does a lot of damage down the bayou? To me the ducks will fly to their normal breeding grounds, find no feed, then relocate.

Not sure if anyone had posted this already but I'm sure a few of you are happy after reading some posts earlier about thieves in the basin.

Total for the season 307 birds out of the prodrive boat blind 90% killed at the Wax. I'm too lazy to go through and count the totals of each species but we killed plenty of teal, and grays with a few less redheads and spoonies mixed in with a dozen or 2 mallards, and pintail. Ducks killed under 10 inlcuded scaup, canvasback, ringneck, wigeon, and ruddy duck. I would say 290 of those birds were....  Read More

Hunting in Louisiana
After reading about endless hunting/boating accidents recently I figured i'd start up this debate about whether or not to wear waders in the boat. I did some research online and of course i got 10 different stories and opinions on 10 different forums. I personally would never wear them down the calumet where i normally hunt because to me that current is way to strong to even chance it. I see....  Read More

Where have all the ducks gone at the wax? Saturday we killed our limit by 7:45. Monday was quite a bit slower but still did ok. Today I just got word that the average per person is 1 duck... Is it the weather? Pressure? Did the birds leave the area completely or are they just offshore rafting? What are your thoughts?

From now on I'm bringing decoys and duck calls with me in the deer stand. While hunting the jaws, right at daybreak these 2 deer walked out 50 yards from our decoys. We were quite a ways out in the delta(pretty much in the bay). I had no idea deer wondered that far out. It must have been that feed call that brought them that close!!! But shhh don't tell anyone my new secret technique for bagging....  Read More

Killed this Mallard sunday morning near Delcambre. I could not believe how much color he had already. We shot a nice variety of species all weekend and no other drake had half the color of this guy. Did anyone else see countless redheads? Is that normal for south LA?

If you had the choice, where would you hunt on opening morning? Atchafalaya Delta, or Henderson Lake? Teal down south, or woodies and maybe some big ducks in Henderson?

Shot this 8 point Saturday afternoon near Jena, LA. The deer walked out at about 220 yards at around 17:15 hours. I watched him for a while hoping he would come a little closer knowing that the .444 that 'Hunterandyfisher' let me borrow was only good under 200 yards(or so). The buck walked back and forth in and out of the woods for 15 minutes or so slowly inching closer and closer with each....  Read More

Do you think the birds will be moving enough to make an afternoon hunt this Friday? I was supposed to take off and go Friday morning but that got canceled due to work. I would like to get 3 hunts in this weekend being it is the last weekend until big duck season. I haven't made many afternoon duck hunts before so I'm curious if I would be wasting my time. Some people say the last few hours are....  Read More

Is there any easy way to tell if my calls are in tune? I haven't been duck hunting long enough to tell and to me the calls sound different when I blow them compared to when someone else calling. The reason I ask is this weekend in the blind between using my teal call and whistle I'd blow my double nasty mallard call and one of the guys that was with me said it sounded funny and to me his call....  Read More

I saw these birds on my way to work this morning in Lafayette. They really look like snow and blue geese but what would they be doing here at this time of year. Any ideas? I know the pic is hard to see but if you zoom in you can see the different colors. the birds were rather large like geese and flying in the typical 'V' that geese fly in.

Is anyone else having trouble getting their boat registered? I sent my registration in on 3/11/11. I still have yet to receive it. First off they 'lost' my original application only to be found under a stack of papers at the office 2 months after they received it. Once they processed it, I was then notified that I would need to register my motor as well. Ok, my fault, I did not know. I was....  Read More

Inshore Fishing in Louisiana
Which forecast/tide guide/feeding time prediction do you use? I am looking at 3 different predictions for Cocodrie this Friday and they all 3 say something different. The tide guide on here shows feeding from 1000 until about 1500. Another sight says inshore fishing in Cocodrie that day will be an 8 out of 10 and another says poor fishing all day. I can understand if they were off by an hour or....  Read More
