I finally had everything go right on Monday Morning. It was 42 degrees and the wind was out the east-northeast. Had this big doe come out at 9:20 and walk within 7 steps from my tree ! I put the pin right behind the shoulder and she ran 40 yrds and piled up. This was the first one that I shot with a 4 blade muzzy and I am impressed.

Anybody score this morning on the youth hunt ? I went do some listening / scouting this morning and the birds were hammering away. I heard at least 5 different birds but I did not hear a gobble after 7:30 am. 7 more days left until I get to carry a shot-gun !!!

I went scouting for turkeys this AM between the rain bands and saw something very strange for this time of year, a recently worked scrape! Two years ago while scouting during the second week of March I witnessed a spike chasing a doe. I jumped a big bodied deer about 150 yards from this scrape. Me and a buddy made a trip Saterday evening and dispite having a hard time catching bait,we ended up with a decent box of fish. The biggest flat-head went 6 pounds.

Needless to say its not looking good. With all the hogs and other critters piled up on the ridges with the turkeys attempting to nest, don't expect a good hatch this year. It was bad enough the birds had the lock-jaw this weekend but the water rose over night.

I went do some hardcore scouting Saturday and only heard one bird shock gobble at a crow. Just wondering if anybody else has been hearing any yet.

Does anybody know any sites online where i can download topo maps of WMA's ???

Made one more hunt to pull the decoys out yeserday am and despite high water the ducks were there. Teal were everywhere, the most i've seen this season. We ended the morning with 3 mallards and 8 teal. One short of the 2 man limit. I have no complaints for the season this year. We had 0 scratches this season.

We had an awesome hunt this morning. It was over by 7:00 AM. Looks like the front brought down some fresh birds. We had large groups of teal that were willing to co-operate. Had some nice groups of mallards working as well. That north wind really helped us out. We ended up with our 2 man limit consisting of 8 teal 1 woodduck and 3 mallards. Easy limits this weekend. Mallards are down in full force. I almost regreted shooting the teal Sunday am. Birds were working well both mornings but especially Saturday.

We made a trip to the atch. river yesterday morning before the rain came. The river is rising and extremely muddy. We were told the locks are open up in simmesport causing muddy water and debris in the water. We were able to scratch a few fish though, 12 blue cats and nine drum (Gou"s) Probally will wait at least 2 weeks before our next trip.
