Colonel Walter Fahr and his son David made it down from Baton Rouge today to get in on some May fishing in Black Bay. After catching mostly small specs in Black Bay with the wind picking up we made one stop inside to find the trout eating up in 10' feet of water. After loading up on nice 2 to 3 lb specks we made one move to fill their limit of reds tightlining in 6' of water with a few.... Read More
100 specks, 12 white trout, 6 drum 2 reds and a flounder. Dustin, his wife, Dad and his wife came in from Baton Rouge this morning to start off catching specks on a cork in the fog. After boating 35 at the first stop I moved them over to a hole with 12' of water where the specks and drum went crazy until the box was full. Today the size was a little better in deeper water with most fish caught.... Read More
The fog was pretty thick this morning, but that didn't stop Russ and Roma Gettleman of Green Bay from reeling in their limits of specks. 2 stops and 75 specks on ice before the fog lifted, all caught 2.5 ft under cork with both live shrimp and chartreuse plastics. Look for bait around choke points and drainouts with the falling tide and let the tide work your bait for you as the fish are.... Read More
The trout are steadily moving inside the marsh, but the water is still a little stained with a yellowish color in Delacroix. Greater numbers of trout are still in the outer bays where the water is a little clearer just look for signs of bait. The drum are anywhere and everywhere from the holes to the outer islands, bigger drum outside with smaller ones inside. Redfish are fairly easy on most.... Read More
Late Friday report! I had a couple that wanted to learn a little about Delacroix for the fall run and were only concerned with specks. With little tide and 4 moves their limit of 50 specks hit the ice by 9:30. All fish caught 2.5 ft under cork mostly on berkley swim shads in clear. The fish are mixed in size with plenty white trout everywhere. Look for oyster reefs in 3 to 6 ft of water.... Read More
After a lot of cleanup we're getting back to fishing in Delacroix. My crew wanted trout today and it was nonstop action on the second move until 75 specks were on ice. We could have loaded the boat with really nice 2 lb white trout which were around a 4 to 1 ratio over the specks and all were caught on chartreuse or space guppy plastics 2.5 ft under a cork. These fish were caught in 5' ft of.... Read More
A lot of work to be done in Delacroix again. After getting the dock halfway back together we were able to get our hoist motors working again, but with a little added noise. After taking them down we found out they too went under water around 14 feet up. I'm going to check the price on getting them rebuilt, but if anyone has any info it would be greatly appreciated. Public access past the.... Read More
Mike and Janine Parker along with their friend Paul asked me to take them out in Black Bay today to see what it looks like these days. The bay was pretty choppy but the group hung in there with around 1 limit of trout and had a request for some spanish mackeral for sushi tonight. After boating 2 mackeral and releasing 1 bull red the seas were building so off we went in the marsh to fill limits.... Read More
Today Russ and Roma Gettleman from Wisconsin were joined by Mike Benge and Chad from Ducks Unlimited for an easy morning trip. The bite was early on and shut down by 8:00. Black Bay was a little choppier today but even with the little tide(.4) the fish fed for about 1.5 hr. The trip was not about numbers but rather having fun as the group put a little over 60 trout on ice with a couple of.... Read More
Today I had Tony Miller form Covington along with his dad Phil and relatives Scott and Don. We made the decision to fish early and Black Bay was smooth as glass this morning. After boating 75 specks around 9:00 the group had enough and decided to head in to beat any possible storms popping up. All fish caught 2.5 ft under cork with live shrimp aand plastics. The outside bite is still red hot.... Read More
Another smooth day in the sound. Day 2 for Bobby, Billy Key, Adrian, Danny and Freddie with 115 trout by 9:15. All fish caught 2.5 ft under cork with both live shrimp and artificials. The fish were really nice today with alot of 3 to 3.5 lbs. The fish were really hitting hard today with very few getting off. The weather has been great early with smooth seas and a terrific bite right now from.... Read More
Today, Bobby and Billy Key Smith and Freddie Sandal of Natchez along with cousins Adrian and Donnie from California came down for some early morning Black Bay trout action. By 9:00 125 trout hit the ice all caught 2.5 ft under cork with both live and artificial. The guys packed up 9 gallon bags of fillets and are coming back to do it again tomorrow. The action is red hot in black bay right.... Read More
Today, Bill Darsey and his friend Shawn came down from Natchez to get in on some of the Black Bay trout action. They weren't too hungry at our first stop only boating a dozen sows, but our second stop after moving about 3 miles to cleaner water was the ticket with trout hitting corks and everything else they threw at them until number 50 hit the ice. The fishing is great and it hasn't been.... Read More
July 4th smack down. David Fontenot of Prairieville and Neal from the North Shore teamed up today with the request of showing them some of the tricks to fishing Delacroix in the summer time. Armed with their GPS's we headed out making 2 stops(due to an inconsiderate boater moving on top of our first bite, but it happens) to fill their limits of big sow trout mostly in the 3-4 lb class all.... Today I had the pleasure of taking out Bobby and Jennifer Smith from Natchez, MS. We ran out to black bay first thing this morning only to find a few trout at each stop and then the wind picked up sending us back into the marsh. Immediately, both were hooked up fishing a reef in 6' of water carolina rigged with live shrimp. After boating 40 trout up to 4 lbs, 3 flounder, 3 reds, a bass and a.... Read More
The bite started off pretty slow for Patrick Allen and Jamie who made the drive in from Alabama this morning. With the NW wind blowing the tide was barely moving which made for a tough go early until things picked up with the incoming tide around 8:00. After moving from 12' of water with a few fish we moved to a shell reef in 5' of water coming off a small flat and hit paydirt with limits of.... Read More
Limits of specks and reds have been coming in at a steady pace. On Saturday I had a duo of Bills from Mississippi. Armed with live shrimp under a cork we headed out to Black Bay to get on a good morning bite but then had to make two more moves where we were greeted with every cast action until limits of trout filled the box. One move inside filled their quota of reds with live shrimp on the.... Read More
Delacroix Report! Sorry for the late reports, I got a lot going on right now. I've fished 5 of the last 8 days with limits or close to limits coming on each trip. When the tide is running good we have been catching bigger trout with 100 by 8:15 on Thursday morning and the majority were in the 3# range with a handful of 4's mixed in. Even with little tide, as of this weekend, we were still.... Read More
