Inshore Fishing in Venice in Southeast Louisiana

  • Me and my Dad
  • My good friend Brad Malcolm with a nice Venice trout.
Made my annual trip to Venice May 18-22nd. Overall we had a great trip, with some days better than others. On Friday and Saturday we caught limits of trout at Breton Island. Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday the fishing got a little tougher.

We fish on our own some and some of us fished with Capt Jeff Fuscia, Capt Dennis Bardwell, and Capt Dan Dix. We have used these guides for years and we.... Read More

Don't hesitate to do business with these guys.

Inshore Fishing in Venice in Southeast Louisiana
I fished Venice this past week starting last Friday the 13th fishing through Tuesday May 17th. We had not one but TWO cold fronts to deal with as well as strong North winds. We caught redfish limits every day and most days caught a handful of trout. The last day we got on an insane Redfish bite, and caught well over 400 redfish as a group. The trout were caught on live shrimp and the new.... Read More

Question for you braided line/power pro users, what size line are you using for trout/reds? I have always used mono, but decided to try some Braid on my spinning reel, I have some 15lb power pro, but it seems small just looking at it.

Thanks in advance.

Looking to make a trip to Venice to fish Oct 14-17th. Have a group of 4-7 people. I am looking for some lodging, I have exhausted all of my resources, if anyone knows of a place please let me know. We have our own boats, so we don't need a guide, just some beds, thanks.

  • Great Day of Fishing in Venice
  • Bunch of NICE trout!!!!
I just returned home from a GREAT fishing trip in Venice. I, along with 14 of my friends headed to Venice for our annual May fishing trip. We canceled the trip once due to the spill, but four days before our trip we decided to go and man did it PAY off!!

We fished with Jeff Fuscia (Delta Dawn Guide service 504-382-5488), Brandon Carter (Reel Shot Guide Service 985-969-0810) and Dan Dix (MLC.... Read More

Wow guys, the best reason this guy can come up with for closing recreational fishing is that someone 'might' eat a fish that taste bad.

Shocking to me to put all of the charter captains and Marinas at risk of going out of business because someone might eat a fish that taste bad.

From Barham:

There would be a wildfire of reports of someone getting a fish from Louisiana and it tasting.... Read More

XYLOPHONE RIG in the Venice area ? ? ?
.
<B>.
~ Captain Paul's response to: ~ AR FISHERMAN ~

I presently don’t have any info on the XYLOPHONE RIG in the Venice area. I am working on getting a fix for the rig, but so far, I have not been successful.

Do you have any idea about where it is located? Is it an offshore platform, or one of the many Christmas Tree platforms in state waters? Any information would be helpful.

Captain Paul - GPS Info in Outside Louisiana
Capt Paul,

I have just purchased a Lowrance LCX 37c. This is my first Lowrance unit, as I have been an avid Garmin user for the past 10 years but recently had several problems with my 530s unit from Garmin and have decided to give Lowrance a try...

I have some mapping questions for you. I am looking at the Navionics Gold Hot Maps Premium South S-4 card. I fish lakes in Arkansas and the.... Read More

LOWRACNE LCX 37C
.
<b>~ Captain Paul's response to: ~ AR FISHERMAN ~

The Lowrance LCX-37 is a top flight GPS combo unit. It should serve you well.

Just because you are intending to use the GPS receiver installed in a boat means that you MUST have marine mapping in the unit.

I suggest that you investigate the Lowrance MAPCREATE ~ USA TOPO Series 7 map software. It is a DVD disk that covers topo quality maps for the entire U.S. I am a firm believer that topo type maps offer more detail than does NOAA type Marine charts for our coastal waters as well as Inland Lakes on the circuit.

Lowrance offers an accessory package that includes one SD card, a LEI card Reader~Writer and the MapCreate DVD for windows 98 or higher. The Lowrance program allows you to use up to FIVE different SD memory cards. The maps MUST be loaded on the cards via the LEI reader ~ writer which imparts a code to the code. The GPS receiver can ONLY read maps that were loaded using the LEI card reader. You can use the cards over and over again, but only the first five cards that you use for downloading.

It is Lowrance’s latest topo map release and is comparable to the Garmin MapSource US TOPO program when used to manage your data. By that I mean that the MapCreate program will allow you to transfer waypoints, routes and tracks from the GPS receiver via the SD or MMC card to the computer and of course the reverse is also true.

The data from the MapSource program cannot be transferred directly to a Lowrance system but there are such data transferring programs via the internet. GPS Babel is one such program and is available at http://www.gpsbabel.org/download.html as a FREE download. It is worth the effort just to have the program.

As the Lowrance system makes the transfers first to the memory card, I suggest that you reserve one such card for all of your DATA transfers. Sometimes writing to a memory card will ERASE the existing files on the card. This could be very disheartening if the card had irreplaceable maps installed in the card.

Before committing to an investment that may not be what you actually need, check out all of the available mapping in a GPS unit. Almost any stocking dealer should have the Navionics, Freedom Maps, Enhanced Lakes, and the USA TOPO Series 7 available for your viewing.

It will save you money in the long run.

By the way the LCX 37 has two (2) memory card slots available at the same time. That means that you can have the best of any two types of mapping installed at the same time.

Inshore Fishing in Venice in Southeast Louisiana
This past Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday, 16 of my friends and I headed to Venice from Arkansas for our annual May trip. We were all well aware of the tough conditions (high muddy river water and the relentless winds), but knew we were in good hands with Capt Jeff. This was our third year to fish with Jeff.

Sunday was a tough day with the steady North wind, but Jeff managed to put our crew.... Read More

13 Arkansas guys made a trip down to Venice to fish for Trout and Reds Thursday, Friday, and Saturday. We had booked (with the help of Susan Gros--thanks Susan) Capt Ron Price (Fish Intimidator), Capt Dan Dix (MLC Charters) and Capt Jeff Fuscia (Delta Dawn Guide Service).

We had used Jeff last year and we were obviously pleased. It was our first year to fish with Capt Dan and Capt Ron. All.... Read More
