Hog Hunting in Southeast Louisiana
Photo Album
I shot this boar on Saturday evening on a private lease in St. Bernard. I was hunting together with my brother-in-law and we attempted to take a double on the two hogs that came out.

Technically, I guess it only counts for a half kill. The hogs were only a few feet apart and staggered a little. We did a count down and both went for head shots. Unfortunately he missed his, but also hit.... Read More

We made another trip to Crystal River, Florida to swim with the manatees. This is a really cool experience to be in the water with these gentle giants. This is our 4th trip and we plan to do it again next year.

It’s really inexpensive and something you won’t forget.

  • Topwater red near Pensacola Pass.
  • Epic sunset.
Made a short trip this afternoon in Pensacola with my friend Brandon Barton who lives over there. The afternoon warmed up to 65 degrees by launch time at 3:00 P.M. Glass calm, but not much activity going on. We did see one red feeding, but a Pelican dove in and spoiled it before we could make a cast.

The dolphins were everywhere and really put on a show. It was one of those evenings that.... Read More

Cameron Podruchny is a lucky young man. Although he lives in North Carolina, he’s a big New Orleans Saints fan.

His aunt and uncle decided to give him a great Christmas present--a trip to New Orleans to see the Saints vs. the Cowboys.

They made plans to stay with us for the weekend and once I found out Cameron likes to hunt and fish, we added a few things to his.... Read More

  • Big topwater bull.
  • On the ruler for the required photo before release.
This was my largest red caught on Friday, the first day of the IFA Kayak Fishing Tour Championship.

The big bull measured out to 42-inches. There's nothing like the explosion of a big bull red on a topwater. The brute was caught near the rock dam in Hopedale fishing a bone/silver Top Dog.

It was a blast battling this fish in the kayak. The hardest part was getting it on the.... Read More

The IFA Kayak Fishing Championship wrapped up its two-day Finals in Houma yesterday. Top kayak anglers from across the Gulf and East Coasts battled it out for the end of season finals.

The tournament uses a catch-photo-release format and the 'yak anglers ''weigh-in'' their longest trout and redfish for the day's fishing. Longest total combined length for the two days decides the.... Read More

The Federal Government is closed as current funding expired on September 30, 2013. • The sunrise was beautiful--The flocks of teal not so much.
  • Lots of reds and bass in the flooded grass.
Second trip to Reggio looking for teal and we never fired a shot.

Knowing that the water was super high and the reports of teal were super low, we brought along the fishing gear.

It didn't take too long to fold down the blind and break out the rods. The high water made fishing the thick grass a little easier.
We hammered some nice reds, some small bass and even some undersized.... Read More

Nearly 30 years ago, I decided to start a Kids' Fishing Rodeo. Along with members of the St.Bernard Sportsman’s League, we put the event together. The simple goal was to get kids and their families together to enjoy some quality time outdoors.

The format was simple and inexpensive. The kids would bring their own cane pole and a bucket. The League would provide bait and fishing.... Read More

  • The storms were getting Ugly.
  • 5 nice keeper reds.
I stayed close to home today with the predicted rain and it did get Ugly. In more ways than one.

Storms were blowing up all around, but I did manage to get in a nice limit of reds and a few small trout before calling it a day. I was fishing the flooded marsh on the north side of the MRGO towards Lena.

The reds were in the flooded grass and absolutely inhaling a gold/black-back.... Read More
