Hey guys. A couple of local anglers are going to launch their new product 'The Fish Call' on August 4, 2015 in Madisonville, La.

The product is a small, portable, electronic fish attractor that uses sound and vibration. I haven't personally tested the device, but have talked to the designers and have to say it is intriguing.

They are going to have a launch party to kick off a....  Read More

I'll be heading from Grand Isle through to White Castle on Friday and looking for somewhere any place along the way to buy some.

Any help is appreciated.

  • Capt. Peace brings the first yellow of the day to the gaff.
  • Russ Pylant shows off one of the bigger yellows for the day. Caught on a Bonita chunk.
  • Group shot of some of the fish from the trip. That's a bunch of steaks.
We fished offshore on Sunday with the legendary Captain Peace Marvel.

The trip started with Peace's ritual prayer asking God 'to please forgive these guys for the slaughter they are about to commit.' And we did.

We started the day chumming in the wheel wash of a working shrimp boat and after a few nice fish, we then moved on to chunking over a sea mount.

The action was....  Read More

A spammer posted on a lot of old posts and caused them to be brought up the list. His account and comments on all the posts were removed, but it leaves the old posts near the top.

  • Yea, we see you.
We decided to beat the heat a bit and head out in search of a few frogs. The area we were in had lots of frogs, but it was tough to get at them. The frogs mostly seemed to be deep in the cover where it was hard to get the net to them. We certain saw more than we caught, but still managed enough for a hoppy meal.

  • 8 bucks, 4 days.
  • Two little guys fighting.
  • Making sure that hock smells just right.
I got invited as a fill-in for a Texas hunt. One of the members broke his arm and couldn't go.

We hunted their lease near Sonora Texas and the rut was full on. Lots of rubs, active scrapes and bucks of all sizes running does all around.

We were allowed two bucks and two does each and finished our tags in four days. Four guys, 16 deer in four days. Not too bad.

If that guy....  Read More

  • Sail hook up with a storm coming.

The surf on Friday near Pensacola went from bad to worse. When we got to the launch site the surf wasn’t too bad, but the Gulf was covered with T-storms. We headed to Waffle House to wait a while and see what would happen. After about an hour we headed back. Still had some storms, but it looked like we could get out. We did.

Finding bait was a little slow, but we managed some small cigs....  Read More

We kayak fished off the beach near Navarre, Florida on Friday. We caught a bunch of small kings, some endangered red snapper (released) and my friend Keith Morrison hooked up with a big fat nurse. (shark that is)

He battled the beast for quite a while until both were pretty spent. A few pics and they went their separate ways--unharmed.

Fishing in Fourchon / Grand Isle in Southeast Louisiana
The Ride the Bull 5 Kayak Fishing Tournament set another world record on Saturday.

Crushing last year's record setting participation of 488, this year's crowd was 722. That makes RTB the World's Largest Kayak Fishing Tournament for two years in a row. The closest tournament in size is still several hundred short so the record should stand for a long time.

Any doubts that kayak....  Read More

The endangered Red Snapper continue to fall victim to the kayaks.

Eric Muhoberac won 1st Place in the Gulf Coast Kayak Fishing Association’s offshore tournament. The pig snapper was caught trolling a live hard tail off the beach in Navarre, Fl.

Also caught were kings, sharks and jack crevasse.

  • 30’’ + kayak snapper

  • Matthew Vann with a small King.
We found some more of those endangered Red Snapper. The trick is to sneak up on them in the kayaks.

We caught these about 2.5 miles off the beach in Navarre, Florida.

Getting these beasts up in the yak is a chore. Drags are locked down since you get very little leverage sitting in the kayaks.

We were using butterfly pogoes and live thread fins and cigar minnows.

Everyone remembers the controversy a while back about having to get an inspection sticker (\'brake tag\') for boat trailers.

There were lots of rumors and claims about folks getting ticketed for not having an inspection sticker on their boat trailer. It was clear that the law did require an inspection sticker on all trailers, but several law-enforcement agencies stated that....  Read More

We had a fantastic Memorial day of kayak fishing offshore in Pensacola.

We started of making live bait just off the beach and it was plentiful. Just before moving on, one of the guys caught a nice chicken dolphin. It was a good sign.

I got to kayak fish a couple of days inshore in the Pensacola area over the Memorial day weekend. The water over there is clear, but still stained from the massive rain they received a few weeks ago. What is usually a clear green color has been root beer colored since the storm.

However, the fish are active and up on the flats. We caught a bunch of nice trout up to 24” and reds using Top....  Read More
