At a kayak demo day yesterday, a few folks took an unexpected swim. Many folks came out to try their hand at paddling, pedaling and stand up boards. Many had never been in any kind of kayak or canoe. The combination of newbies and strong winds made for a wet day for a few.

The Dupre Gate (Violet Locks) will close at 10:45am today (4-10-13) due to winds and high tide. Plan on opening gates later this afternoon.

The Bayou Coast Kayak Fishing Club will be holding a large tournament (Paddle Palooza 10) this Saturday out of Bobby Lynn's marina in Leeville. This is the third largest kayak tournament in the United States and we will have 250+ kayaks on the water. A man found dead just after midnight in Davis Bayou has been identified as Kenneth Rainer of Biloxi. And authorities are now searching for Rainer's son, who was kayaking with his father.
Officials could not immediately say how old the son is.

Even Pelicans know it's better to fish from a Hobie!rnrnThis guy followed me around yesterday and kept getting real close. I took a couple of picks when he was right next to me. Then all of a sudden he decided he wanted to get in the 'yak with me.rnrnHe would even let me pet him. I let him ride along for a little while until he tried to eat my camera!
