The Louisiana Outdoor Writers Association held their annual conference in Houma, La last weekend. We had three boats out with Bayou Guide Service in Dularge on Friday. Two went after reds, one after trout.

We were with none other than Captain Bill Lake and as usual, he scripted exactly where, when and how the fish would bite. Wendy Billiot, John Flores, Chris Holmes and Craig Eppling all.... Read More

  • Yea, we see you.
We decided to beat the heat a bit and head out in search of a few frogs. The area we were in had lots of frogs, but it was tough to get at them. The frogs mostly seemed to be deep in the cover where it was hard to get the net to them. We certain saw more than we caught, but still managed enough for a hoppy meal.

The endangered Red Snapper continue to fall victim to the kayaks.

Eric Muhoberac won 1st Place in the Gulf Coast Kayak Fishing Association’s offshore tournament. The pig snapper was caught trolling a live hard tail off the beach in Navarre, Fl.

Also caught were kings, sharks and jack crevasse.

  • 30’’ + kayak snapper
  • Yak snapper in a 105 quart Yeti
  • Matthew Vann with a small King.
We found some more of those endangered Red Snapper. The trick is to sneak up on them in the kayaks.

We caught these about 2.5 miles off the beach in Navarre, Florida.

Getting these beasts up in the yak is a chore. Drags are locked down since you get very little leverage sitting in the kayaks.

We were using butterfly pogoes and live thread fins and cigar minnows.

It.... Read More

Everyone remembers the controversy a while back about having to get an inspection sticker (\'brake tag\') for boat trailers.

There were lots of rumors and claims about folks getting ticketed for not having an inspection sticker on their boat trailer. It was clear that the law did require an inspection sticker on all trailers, but several law-enforcement agencies stated that.... Read More

We had a fantastic Memorial day of kayak fishing offshore in Pensacola.

A group of us headed out from the beach with Matthew Vann of Sails and Tails Kayak Charters.

We started of making live bait just off the beach and it was plentiful. Just before moving on, one of the guys caught a nice chicken dolphin. It was a good sign.

While we trolled our way to the snapper grounds we.... Read More

I got to kayak fish a couple of days inshore in the Pensacola area over the Memorial day weekend. The water over there is clear, but still stained from the massive rain they received a few weeks ago. What is usually a clear green color has been root beer colored since the storm.

However, the fish are active and up on the flats. We caught a bunch of nice trout up to 24” and reds using Top.... Read More

Hog Hunting in Southeast Louisiana
Photo Album
I shot this boar on Saturday evening on a private lease in St. Bernard. I was hunting together with my brother-in-law and we attempted to take a double on the two hogs that came out.

Technically, I guess it only counts for a half kill. The hogs were only a few feet apart and staggered a little. We did a count down and both went for head shots. Unfortunately he missed his, but also hit.... Read More

We made another trip to Crystal River, Florida to swim with the manatees. This is a really cool experience to be in the water with these gentle giants. This is our 4th trip and we plan to do it again next year.

It’s really inexpensive and something you won’t forget.

Made a short trip this afternoon in Pensacola with my friend Brandon Barton who lives over there. The afternoon warmed up to 65 degrees by launch time at 3:00 P.M. Glass calm, but not much activity going on. We did see one red feeding, but a Pelican dove in and spoiled it before we could make a cast.

The dolphins were everywhere and really put on a show. It was one of those evenings that.... Read More
