map transfers need LEI card reader

First a current copy of the owner’s manual can be downloaded from the Lowrance web site at
www.lowrance.com/en/Downloads/Manuals/
I suggest that you first have him download and print out the manual.
As OUTDOORFREAK stated in his comments you MUST use the menu feature to have the GPS unit READ the data card. The READ FILE window can be accessed by pressing the MENU button twice (MENU ~ MEMU) then selecting the MMC files. The actual maps on the card should be displayed. You would then place a check in the box for the appropriate map file, BUT there may be another problem.
The MapCreate software allows up to FIVE data cards, either MMC or SD memory cards to be used as MAPPING cards. The user MUST use the Lowrance (LEI) card programmer to download the maps images onto the card. When the maps are downloaded from MapCreate using the LEI card programmer, a code is written to the index of the card that allows the GPS unit to read the mapping images.
Using a standard card writer or having used five other cards, will NOT supply the proper code to the card and the GPS unit will NOT read the mapping info.
Any card reader and card can be used to transfer DATA, such as waypoints, tracks and routes, and the GPS unit will be able to read and transfer the data into and from the GPS unit and a computer, but this is NOT so with the mapping images.
The five card limit and the LEI card programmer is Lowrance’s way of protecting the copyright of their mapping software.
~ Try the suggestions and let me know how you make out.
