Archery in South Central Louisiana
I have not been getting hardly any pass throughs and am wondering if I should get a new bow or not. I shot a new bow today and at 63# 29' DL it shot 274 GPS. My old bow shoots 250 fps with same setup. Does 24 fps make that much difference as far as pass through goes? Also, would using a heavier arrow (maybe full metal jacket) on my old bow fix the problem instead of the A/C/C arrow I.... Read More

I replanted this wellsite with about 200 new trees. I planted a combination of persimmon crabapple red Mulberry water Oaks White Oaks sawtooth oaks and Mayhaw. It will be a few years but it should make a big attraction for the deer.

My daughter got her first buck a few days ago. I am so proud of her as she made a perfect shot at 147 yds and he dropped. We waited and waited to get a closer, better shot but it never came. Finally I left it up to her to decide if she felt steady enough to make a good shot and boy did she. It was a great hunt together and aside from just being fun to be around always, she is a great hunting.... Read More

After watching an aging the jawbones video on QDMA website (which is a great help), I am still not sure what I would age these two jawbones which I have attached in the following pics. Where the confusion comes in for me is those teeth which have the dentine more than 1x the enamel width but not quite 2x. In the video he states at first that, for the fourth tooth, the dentine must be wider than.... Read More

any suggestions on what to plant in a very small (1/4 acre or less)food plot that is near a creek so has moist soil usually, and gets very little direct sunlight? It is in the Natchez area if that makes any difference.

I am thinking about getting the new Hoyt Carbon Element and wonder if anyone has anything negative to say about it. Having been out over a year already its been in the hands of some hunters enough now to know of any issues or problems. Anything you don't like about it?

Can anyone recommend a grow tube for planting seedlings? I have used a company called Plantra the last 2 years out of Wisconsin but I find in the heat of summer in the south the plastic gets so soft/weak that any little wind blows them over even though they are staked on a fiberglass stake with 2 tie wraps. The top tie wrap actually slides down the stake allowing the grow tube to 'kink' in the.... Read More

Inshore Fishing in South Central Louisiana
I am looking for a place to go catch schooling specs under the birds. I usually go to Black Bay from Prairieville but it is a 2 hour drive followed by a 35 minute boat ride to get out around stone island. I would like to find a place as predictable as that place but at least a closer boat ride. Does anyone have any suggestions?

Hog Hunting in Outside Louisiana
I've been invited to a hunt that looks too fun to pass up. Its to help a friend eliminate some hogs. You pile the corn all around this Southern Thunder explosive, maybe several days getting the hogs routinely coming. Pick your full moon night, back off 150 yards with a good scope and let them all gather around. Then let the fun begin. Has anyone tried this yet? I hear it takes out ALL of them.

Congratulations to Charles Deranger for putting together an impressive winning stringer in our November Belle River Public Landing tournament. Check out a couple of nice ones. A chatterbait was the magic bait that put together a 11.5# stringer. David Bourque also had an impressive day with 8.26# which far outpaced the remaining field of anglers. He also found them on a chatterbait in grass.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. He allowed me to take my best bow buck this weekend. Its one I have quite a few trail cam pics of from before season. A west wind forced me to hunt a stand I almost never hunt and he happened to come by at 3o yds. My old Hoyt and a 2 blade Rage did him in. What a blast!

Lets get ready to rrrrrrrrumbleeeeee. A little sparring action as these guys try to figure out the pecking order and have a little fun. I watched four rounds of this. No knockdown-drag out fighting but fun to just see them get a little practice in. Notice how they come to attention when the other deer comes around. Like watching a couple of kids on a playground. Really fun stuff. Hope you enjoy.

I love October when these bucks are still in their summer pattern and predictably come out in the plots in the afternoon. Saturday afternoons hunt I got to watch the one I'm after from 100+yards feed all the way across the plot with bachelor group. Unfortunately he didn't come where I thought he would so I only got to watch and video a little. Its difficult to set up where he's coming out due to.... Read More

This is a little clip I took while bow hunting this past weekend. Notice that after the bigger buck makes the scrape, the smaller one eases over to it and checks it out. Although I did not get any shots I enjoyed watching this. I hope you will too.

Master's Casters Christian Bass Club held our September tournament at Belle River Public Landing on Saturday, September 8. Following the hurricane we were a little unsure what to expect in the spillway in terms of fish kills and water quality. We were pleasantly surprised at the good water and abundance of fish in the Bayou Long area and a lot of fish were caught. Congratulations to George.... Read More
