I am looking for a place to go catch schooling specs under the birds. I usually go to Black Bay from Prairieville but it is a 2 hour drive followed by a 35 minute boat ride to get out around stone island. I would like to find a place as predictable as that place but at least a closer boat ride. Does anyone have any suggestions?

I've been invited to a hunt that looks too fun to pass up. Its to help a friend eliminate some hogs. You pile the corn all around this Southern Thunder explosive, maybe several days getting the hogs routinely coming. Pick your full moon night, back off 150 yards with a good scope and let them all gather around. Then let the fun begin. Has anyone tried this yet? I hear it takes out ALL of them.

We are having our first meeting of the year this coming Monday, Feb 4 and anyone interested is invited to attend. It will be at 7 pm in Prairieville. Our first tournament is Feb 23 at Lafitte and other tournaments include Lake Concordia, Venice, Okhissa Lake, Delacroix, Atchaf spillway, and more. We fish one tournament a month, Feb thru Nov. Congratulations to Charles Deranger for putting together an impressive winning stringer in our November Belle River Public Landing tournament. Check out a couple of nice ones. A chatterbait was the magic bait that put together a 11.5# stringer. David Bourque also had an impressive day with 8.26# which far outpaced the remaining field of anglers.He also found them on a chatterbait in grass.

Praise God from whom all blessings flow. He allowed me to take my best bow buck this weekend. Its one I have quite a few trail cam pics of from before season. A west wind forced me to hunt a stand I almost never hunt and he happened to come by at 3o yds. My old Hoyt and a 2 blade Rage did him in. What a blast!

Lets get ready to rrrrrrrrumbleeeeee. A little sparring action as these guys try to figure out the pecking order and have a little fun. I watched four rounds of this. No knockdown-drag out fighting but fun to just see them get a little practice in. Notice how they come to attention when the other deer comes around. Like watching a couple of kids on a playground. Really fun stuff. Hope you enjoy.
I love October when these bucks are still in their summer pattern and predictably come out in the plots in the afternoon. Saturday afternoons hunt I got to watch the one I'm after from 100+yards feed all the way across the plot with bachelor group. This is a little clip I took while bow hunting this past weekend. Notice that after the bigger buck makes the scrape, the smaller one eases over to it and checks it out. Although I did not get any shots I enjoyed watching this. I hope you will too.

Master's Casters Christian Bass Club held our September tournament at Belle River Public Landing on Saturday, September 8. Following the hurricane we were a little unsure what to expect in the spillway in terms of fish kills and water quality. Our August tournament was at Bayou Pigeon, Aug 18 amid storms and rain but the fish didn't seem to mind. A lot of fish were caught but as usual there, the keepers were a little hard to come by. Congratulations to David Ellis whose winning stringer weighed 9.17#, George Zimmer weighed 3 fish at 6.07# and Dwight Landry won Big Bass with a 2.44#er.

Notice the disparity in the stages of antler development between these deer. The 10 pt seems to be way ahead of all the other deer I've seen (except for one other 10 pt) on trailcam from the last 2 weeks. Obviously his antler development began before the others and is nearing completion. The rest seem to be only about 1/2 into theirs. Is this common to the better bucks or is he just an early.... Can anyone recommend a brand/size 3 pt PTO seed/fertilizer spreader for a 50hp tractor? We had another great tournament in Venice last Friday. With high tide early, it took a while for the bass to start biting but halfway to low tide it was on fire for everyone fishing the tournament. Most caught 30-40 bass with the usual reds and flounder mixed in, but the sizes were not as big as usual. The team of David Ellis and Jacob Ellis won the tournament with David having 8.77# for 5 bass.... Read More

Got to spend a great fishing trip with my daughter and nephew. We caught 66 and left them biting. It was so much fun to just spend time with them in such a beautiful place and introduce them to flipping. It didn't take them long to get the hang of it.

Congratulations to Justin Ellis and George Zimmer for 1st and 2nd place in our June Bayou Segnette tournament. Their 5 fish stringers weighed 9.44# and 9.39# respectively. Justin said he caught his on a 1/4 oz PopR near the tank pond and George caught his on a Spro frog in the Lafitte area. Congratulations to George Zimmer on winning our Bayou Pigeon tournament on May 12. While everyone seemed to go thru a lot of bass, George managed to find more keepers and bring 5 to the scales weighing 9.93#. Big bass was caught by Robbie Lavigne and weighed 3.36#. A tough tournament day with strong NE winds, high pressure cold temps but everyone managed to catch fish. Congratulations to David Bourque with 5 fish just over a pound apiece as the winning member and Stephen Causey with a 5.14# big bass fishing as a guest.
Would someone please explain to me the love affair with power poles for bass fishermen? Seems to me it has SOME value if you're sight fishing beds, otherwise its a $1000+ anchor but worst of all its in the way for the fisherman in the back of the boat if its not in its down position.
